Liz Dawn the lady with the fire wood went on to be a big soap star in Corronation Street, the bread man was John Chalice who was Only Fools and Horses regular character Boycie.

When I was a lickle kid, I used to be sent to the greengrocers for kindling. They sold wooden orange crates for 3 pence. Or chopped up crates as bundles of kindling for 6 pence. 🙂

Brilliant writing from Ronnie Barker, subtle writing that got past the BBC censors in a pre-Watershed programme. Driving like a Family Planner, we never know if you are going to pull out in the middle of the road.

The first customer in the shop - Mrs Blewitt was played by Kathy Staff she was most well know for her role in Last of the Summerwine. A comedy that ran for 31 years and was written by the writer of this show. Her character Nora Batty was a gossipy battleaxe . The sitcom is about retired residents of a Yorkshire town

Was the baker's man John Challis? It looked like him. John Challis played quite an important character in the sit com Only Fools and horses, which was huge for David Jason ( Granvil ) There is another funeral episode in a later series. I thought it would the other one when I saw the title.

Not only a very British comedy. Very English and Northern! 😆This was when British TV made drama and comedy informed by regional themes and ideas before TV and society became more and more homogenised - that's why these will never lose appeal. I strongly endorse Last of the Summer Wine as well, which is gentler and more whimsical (but only up to about 1987 or 90 if you want the consistent best). Conversely the Open All Hours sequel series from recent years is worth looking at as it's contemporary but retains the values of the early episodes.

Purely by chance there was a programme about Open All Hours on TV yesterday. It discusses the background and making of the show. It was called Open All Hours: A Celebration, I've just had a look and it's on RU-vid. Maybe not the best for a reaction video but I'm sure you would enjoy watching it.
