This is long and short of it: a 'simp' is essentially a weak and insincere man, who will undermine himself in the pursuit of female affection and/or intimacy. He feels it is necessary to compromise himself, usually because of low self-esteem, or that he would be undesirable if he didn't do it. He will often go so far as to be an ATM, and even doormat to win the affection of a woman. Many (most?) older expats exhibit this behavior to an extreme. No other person, man or woman, deserves to be put on a pedestal. That being said, genuine praise and admiring good character, if sincere, is not simping.

Aussie guy is just stingy that's all. if he wanted to go 50/50, he should have talked about it with the other person beforehand, otherwise it will be expected (majority of the time) that he gets to pay for everything, especially in the Phils. You're focusing on a particular behaviour of 'some' and not all men. In fact, if you are referring to much older men in their retirement years, divorced or widowed, they come from a different time and mindset, where they were the provider, breadwinner, and the only one to allow and accept such a role. Generosity is not being a simp; it is an expression of appreciation. It is also an act of knowing when one has more power or means than another and recognizing one can help those one cares for or appreciates. The difference between the former and the ones you are describing are sexpats and men who have zero experience with women. So, for all the know-it-alls in the room thinking this has something to do with age, it is not. This is purely a consequence of one's upbringing and experience. This argument is beside the point of ensuring healthy boundaries, which is a completely different discussion. Let's not paint a broad brush because someone has a wallet and is a man.

I don't know Australia but I know American inflation has been insane. Buying a house in a popular area has tripled in 20 years to a million dollars. Then Americans bring that money to Manila and overpay for condos. American remote workers have jacked up housing prices all over the world. But that's no excuse for being a cheapskate. I am an American man, 63 years old married to a Filipina who is 35 years old. We are very happy. The Western men, not just Americans, are willing to pay Filipinas through the internet, and in person. In many cases, a lot of money. The theory, among some disgruntled foreign men, is that if more Filipinas get more attention and more money, that pushes their value up the scale, and western men have to compete more for such Filipinas. I say, good for the Filipinas. And if Western men want to pay, then so what? Too many foreigners come to the Philippines wanting Filipina women fawning for them and seeing them as rock stars. Well, none of them really deserve that. You, maybe, just maybe deserve a bit of that when you work on your looks, and have a steady job to offer security.
