Exotic can also include cocos or starfruit, kiwi. Usually the term exotic means fruit that are not the most common tropical fruits. This has thou been mixed up when businesses started importing more direct from countries of origin since exotic (rare/unusual) fruits paid better than fruit labeled as tropical.

You're reading protein per 100g. Entire bag is clearly less than 70g, probably one scoop's worth and 30-40g. (Listing nutrition per 100g is required by EU laws. Pretty good - it prevents producers from using clever and unreasonably portion sizes and rounding things to zero)

I worked in a factory packing army ration packs, it used to make me laugh when we pact little sachets, one of pepper one of salt and there was even a little moist hand wipe and a paper napkin. We used to joke and imagine soldiers on a training exercise soaked to the skin covered in slime, hands and faces covered in mud hungry as hell, sprinkling salt and pepper on their meal, then wiping their hands on a moist wipe before tucking into their meal; once finished dabbing their lips with paper napkins. When we were kids we had an army training ground near our village, if we were lucky during school holidays, we would go to where they were camped on exercise and chat with the soldiers, this was in 1970/75 UK, I always noticed that they never cook their meals separately, they just chucked everything in the pot, beans, vegetables potatoes meat soup everything went in the pot and that was how they ate it. If we got on well with the soldiers, they would bury a few ration boxes for us before they left; they did not tell us where they would bury them, but left markers with sticks. Oh to be a kid again.

I also like it funny or maybe crazy that these food rations are very complex you need ages to prepare them and then you have huge pile of trash. Lots of those trail walkers on pacific etc. Long trails cold soak their food. This is arctic pack so it isn't good idea to have those foods which aren't dried and which you just heat also cold soaking is a bad idea, because food freezes. There are titanium cups with screw lid so this kind mess kit would be ideal, but made of steel of course. Heat water when you make breakfast throw food in it for sokaking and put cozy on it. Drink mixes in pouches, why not those hydration tablets in tube. (Steel) tube with 5 to 10 tablets and refills when needed. Some times you need 0 other days 5. Those bars etc are most of the times 2 to 3$ a piece, buy private label mars, snickers etc. candybars 30c a piece and they are tastier. Of course those have less protein, but they could add it in those foods. Usually most of those foods have textured soy protein and some flavouring, lots of salt and msg. and they taste quite same. Sometimes they have good ideas in army but sometimes bad. When I was in army (Finland 8 months) they used to bring food in insulated tanks on those days in forest. But logistically it was easier to bring them once a day and sometimes with next day breakfast. 6 am they bring food and you can believe that 6pm dinner isn't warm anymore when it was colder days it might be frozen. And that breakfast next morning with -30C orange/apple, fruit juice, hard rye bread and frozen butter wasn't very filling and energy rich. Those days they had same energy calculations for lecture days and field days. "You don't starve in a week or two" "in war they had much less" etc. Nowadays they have adopted same system like others, those 24h mre packages.

When i did my service and worked in the Swedish military we phased out the old green packages and replaced it with this, so we could take as many as we wanted......i had free food for outdoor trips for like three years, it was awesome! Granola has been cooked while Müesli is raw/uncooked.
@Ahex75
@Ahex75 3 года назад
It depends which country you are, but you're quite right. Muesli/mysli etc. are "raw" like you say. Mostly wheat, oat, rye rolled, same as used in porridges they might be lightly roasted. Then they have rasins, walnuts and some other fruits in smaller quantities. Those used to basics of musli in 2000 and before. Nowadays they "cheat" and use rice crispies and cornflakes in cheaper muslies. Then expensive ones have much more nuts and fruits like banana, pineapple and other exotic fruits up to 50% of weight. Granola has been introduced us from US and quite often those rolled oats etc are roasted with honey or another sweetener and are more crunchier than in musli. If you give those "classic" old middle european style muslies to kids today they probably wont like them because those muslies arent very sweet and taste like rolled oats etc with few raisins. I think granola or musli with lots of nuts and fruits are really good food in packs like these. High in energy because nuts and sugars and oats with fibers. Easy to eat dry like trailmix, but fibers keep you filled longer and most important it is less likely you to get diaŕrhea with too much fast sugars or high fat content in nuts.

Thanks for the review. We have these every now and then and menu number 1 seems to be the most popular one overall. Nöt-Creme is a classic, I spent a lot of my allowance as a kid on those, downing them like you did, on my way home from school. For the heated meals, we also get separate flameless chemical heater bags that react with water and cooks the meal right in its packaging, it’s pretty useful when you don’t have access to a regular heater. Did you notice the pasta packaging actually folds out so ot can stand on its own, almost like a bowl? And the main transparent plastic bag is divided into two compartments, one to store the trash and wrappings. Greetings from Sweden.

Too lazy to google) are really good. You say things like "I'm not personally a fan of mint chocolate, but it's still has merit for X, Y and Z reason". Keep it up! Never thought I'd see a video like this and be interested lol.

the low calories you commented on early is likely the fact that there is less sugar in it- So yeah it has less carbs than you're used to but more of them are slow burn carbs meant to make you feel full rather than give you a sugar rush. It's what we always taught when I was in the scouts sugar and instant noodles (I mean the five minute boil time things not the freeze dried stuff I'm sure the military thought this through) are convenient but you can't hike a day with a full sized backpack on them. Never mind combat exercises.

So Blå Band simply means "Blue Ribbon". They are a very well known brand in supermarkets in Sweden and Finland. Mainly for their sauces, instant meals and soups. At one point I belive they were owned by the US Campell Soup Company. So the meal that you ate with pasta and chicken, can be bought in a supermarket, but come in cup like package.

When I was in the Swedish army back in 08 (mandatory military service, not as a profession) we never got this goodie bag, we got the military issue which was 3 meals divided into seperate pouches but all connected. Brealfast was always some sort of porridge. Lunch was usually some freeze-dried small meal and some kind of drink powder you mix with water, usually some kind of extra sugary "energy drink mix". Dinner was a larger meal, another drink powder and some kind of "desert", normally a granola bar or a 'laser treated chocolate bar'. When in the field the chocolate was amazing, but after I was done and back home I realized how absolutely awful it was! And no, the 'best before' date had not passed, pretty sure if I kept it to today it'd still be fine to eat, bizarre shelf life.
