韩语中足球一词“”(Chuk-gu)至今仍然是“蹴鞠”的音译拼写。 Cuju or Ts'u-chü (蹴鞠) is an ancient Chinese ball game that is the earliest known recorded game similar to soccer.[1] It is a competitive game that involves kicking a ball through an opening into a net without the use of hands. Descriptions of the game date back to the Han dynasty, with a Chinese military work from the 3rd-2nd century BC describing it as an exercise.[1][2] It was also played in other Asian countries like Korea, Japan and Vietnam.

In Mongolia, some fruits and vegetables that grow in humid and hot regions don't have a designated word. Avocado is a perfect example, we just say Авокадо which is same as the English word, Avocados aren't grown in Mongolia and is totally foreign vegetable.

If you look at the similar pronunciation in English... it means that in the past that country was quite influenced by colonialists either from Europe or America... China and Mongolia have very unique languages and so it's clear that their languages were not influenced by colonialists... I'm from Myanmar. It seems like we usually use our own words most of the time. I didn't know other Asian countries use a lot of English loan words. Is it because of globalization and modernization? Is it because of Myanmar's isolationism in history? It's pretty interesting that Myanmar was colonized by Britain but used few English loan words than those who didn't get colonized by Britain.

"Salad" comes from Romance languages. In Ancient Latin, salt is "sal". The verb "to salt" in evolved vulgar Latin (5th century) was already "salare" and its past participle form went into Italian (salato), French (salade) and Spanish (salado). The French form was introduced into English during the Norman Invasions of Britain (XI-XIV centuries) .

We Burmese sometime also call Airpod ( ကြိုးမဲ့ နားကြပ် ) Gkyo Mat Na Gyat. It literally means " Wireless Earphone ". During the Socialist era, the government tried to wipe out English influences that was deeply rooted on Burmese Vocabulary. I think it's the main reason that we Burmese don't have that much loanwords than other neighboring countries. I don't know it's suppose to be a good thing or a bad thing, but I feel like it's a good thing and I feel a bit proud of it. XD

10:31 It's because in Burmese, the ending consonant is always silent. Of course, we also have ending consonant in our language and the pronunciation of the a word is changed based on ending consonant but you don't have to pronounce that consonant. e.g : When we pronounced BOOK, it's just BOO(K). But we don't pronounced it as BOO. It's just Book with no ending K sound. And that's why Soccer is called as bor-lone bor literally means ball with no ending r or ll sound. And lone means spherical.

Vietnam is a tropical country, so if there is a tropical fruit that we can grow, it will surely have its own Vietnamese name. And if it's a temperate fruit... hm..., actually the temperate zone doesn't have many kinds of fruit, 🤣🤣 usually it will be a French name. Really right now, I can't think of any temperate fruit, except Kiwi and Olive, and are called "Kiwi" and "Ô-liu" in Vietnamese.
@thevannmann
@thevannmann 9 месяцев назад
Certain tropical fruits in Vietnam have names that were borrowed from other languages. Nhãn and thanh long are from Chinese (also the first part of the word for passionfruit is from Chinese), măng cụt is from French but ultimately from Malay.

As a spoken language, Chinese Mandarin isn't all that hard once you get the hang of the tones. It's the writing system that's tough on anyone who's not a visual thinker.

Agree, as a Chinese I'd like to say there are many accents in China has different tones, tones don't matter when you talk with people. Context matters.
