I never knew that! I'm clearly of the @Darkflame2307 club, because I love the stuff. I'm soooo glad I'm not of the club that thinks it's soapy. (On a side note: did those people eat soap to be able to claim that cilantro tastes like soap? Just wonderin'....)

It's weird though because I can't do fresh coriander as it tastes like soap and some times dish washing liquid BUT, I can do ground/dry coriander or coriander seeds. Make out of flour with yellow powder for color I believe it tumeric powder, than pour in a big pan, put shrimp, bean sprout and pork in, then put a lid over it to cook for a few minute. Fold it in half before taking it out

I think the yellow coloring is Tumeric. Definitely no eggs in it though.

I feel... that the reason Vietnamese food is sooooooooooooo good... is because it is made with the Soul of a People who have survived (and continue to survive) so much in it's journey. All the history and fusion is in it. The pain, the suffering, the resourcefulness, the joy, the triumph and of course the love is all there. So many nations and people have passed through Vietnam (whether it be through colonization, war, merchant traders, expats, tourists, business groups, etc etc) and have left their essence in what makes Vietnam. And this of course includes the world of food & cuisine too!!! Heck there are even a few Greek and Turkish Gyro/Doner stands in Saigon now :) So interesting!!

There is several sizes of banh xeo by the way. The smaller one that you may see in Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Phu Yen, etc ... they put the whole cake and vegetables into a bowl of fish sauce and eat it using chopstick/spoon. Best thing ever!

I can't stand any kind of salty sauce taste. I usually eat everything plain or how it comes, but I won't add any more salt to it.

I don't like the smell or the fact it is too salty.. However if you add enough lime/lemon, chili, carrots and some water.. it is a bit better. Tastes good with certain things more than others though.

I guess that's fine and all. I was born in America and I love the smell of Durian, though people hate it, I don't understand why! Fish sauce smells pretty gross, but the taste is SO worth it!

the spice is usually on the table as a personal preference for condiments.. you can make it as hot as you want lol... for yourself.. however there are a few dishes apparently that have a fair amount of chili peppers in them... I think.
