I remember this well, as one of the best games on the 'sit-down arcade tables'. My buddy and I got expert at it, and could always finish at least the first four levels (zulus twice & pigs twice) without even looking: we'd memorized the optimum paths for each of the screens, so we could look really flash as we played the game and had a conversation with each other at the same time. One evening, in 1983 or 84, the machine in the pub we used to play it in ('The Polar Bear' on Spring Bank in Hull) was out of order, but the engineer was on his way to fix it. We hung around to watch him sort out the problems. When he'd finished he told the pub landlord that the problem had been caused by loads of £1 coins jammed inside the coin feed mechanism. The landlord must have told him that we'd lost a few of our pound coins, because he presented us with a bagful of them that he'd retrieved, and also said he'd left about 90-odd credits on there after testing it. So we had an evening of free games, (and even left quite a few credits on there when we decided we'd had enough,) not to mention that our beer was paid for. Great night.
Whoooo, finally found the name of this game that i used to play some 40 years ago ! I always remembered the tunes during gameplay but couldn’t remember the exact name of the game anymore 😁 Thnaks for uploading 👌 There was another great game i used to play at that time that i don’t know the exact name anymore of. The only thing i still remember is that the character (player one) had to eat all the pieces of fruit in the first round before you could go to round 2 and so on, and whenever the character ate a piece of fruit he could shoot “the bad characters” with that piece of fruit 🤷♂️ It was also a great arcade game at that time which you cound find and play in bars.
Amidar is a tough game. Looks simple, and the first screen is pretty easy but after that the difficulty goes up real quick. And that bonus stage...I've never been able to complete it. Great gameplay my friend, good stuff indeed!
hah thanks! my parents bought the cocktail table back in the mid 80s when i was kid. played it non stop! Bonus stages are simple - just back trace from the bananas back to the top
Hi jack do you know if there is a version for xbox360 or ipad ? I tried but didnt find it . Perhaps it called differently? If i find it i'll rip your record ;)
I could not achieve a score like this in the arcade unless the players character at fastest speed and the enemies at the slowest speed. That would be a suggestion.
I have a 60-1 Jamma cocktail table with Amidar on. I can get 320,000 on it. I'm guessing that's as close to the arcade version as I can get. This version i've uploaded is a mame version on a pc.
So, basically, this game is Qix and Pac-Man made into one game, am I right? Honestly, if they wanted this game to be even better, they should have just let people be able to freely make their own zones to color in rather than fill in pre-selected blocks that the game made.
The zones you fill in are dependent on the two different strategies of the game: On odd numbered levels, the gorilla completes any zone by collecting all the dots (fruits?) on the perimeter lines of each zone. On even numbered levels, the paint roller must paint a continuous line around the zone, but the zone must be connected to another already completed zone, or to the centre 1/5 of the base line, so the bottom centre zone MUST be completed first.
See if you can find one of the 'sit-down' table top versions they had in pubs. If you're married, I'm sure your missus would welcome a novelty coffee table much more than a cabinet up against the living room wall!
