Amiga 1000 Pt 1: Clean up and Gotek 

That switch was a good 'hack', Jason! Saves drilling holes in a pristine A1000!!

A neat trick for removing the lid is to fit a coin in the gap and push the outer edge down. Works nicely and helps keep the clips from breaking. I got this from the Phoenix motherboard manual.

My first ever Amiga was a 1000 I found at a thrift shop for 200$. No mouse, no keyboard, no kickstarter. 2M memory with a daughter board and it worked! Found a disk, bought a 500 and used that mouse for the 1K, and built a PS2/Amiga keyboard converter. Then... I sold it. Since I had the 500 and that was good for me, but there are moments when I still think about it. Such a fun little box!

The early layered board Amiga 1000's are a PITA to work on internally. Nice addition to your collection. Jelly.

100% with you on the "Unpleasant to disassemble" comment. Did someone in the team own shares in a "Screws and fasteners" business? There's enough different types in there.

Your switch installation was brilliant! Totally agree on the Gotek use. If it had been available way back when, you just know everyone would have bought one. I sure would have. I had 4 different model Amigas and the 1000 was my favorite design, if not the favorite in function. I miss it.

Great solution on the DF0/DF1 switch mount that doesn't require any modification to the case! I have my switch just laying on top of the case, running out the side of the expansion port, heh, not ideal, but your solution cleans that up nicely! On "The list!" heh.

I would love to see a follow-up on 3D-printed back panels for it.

Great video. Could be worse for a side cart. I had a Supra Ram 500 RX Expander for my 1000. Had to flip it upside down and bend the metal case. But, it did put the switch to the front of the 1000. So, I guess that was good. 😉

on aging and beaking floppydrives: if a floppydrive stops working and nothing mechanical is wrong the floppydrive it probably needs a recap. Just don't touch the alignment screws(or you will have to realingn the drive).

Your Amiga 1000 is coming together nicely. Looks great!

I know you paid a small fortune for that but it's probably the best bit of retrobrighting kit on the net.

New challenge for ya :D Find a Rejuvenator board for the A1000! They sold a "Rejuvenator II" back in the day.. but that was really just a "kit" to upgrade the first board to 2mb of Chip RAM. Since then, the same guys, all these years later revealed the plan was to make RJ II board... Not sure if they pulled it off or not. That's one Then get the Hurricane accelerator board for the A1000. According to the photos in the Big Book of Amiga Hardware, it looks like it would fit with the RJ board.... That adds 8mb of Fast RAM as well. (so disabling any slow RAM on the RJ board would be necessary. ;) Daughter card must be added for the RAM.. otherwise suffer only a 10% increase in speed. LoL :P Now, there is another option which is probably even more rare It's called: The PPI 1000 This strange contraption, goes on the top of the A1000 and makes it look like a computer from Star Wars or something... LOL The Description mentions up to 6mb of RAM.... Looking at the motherboard, it seems you would have to probably solder in sockets for the additional RAM... Also, do I detect an 020 or 030 on that board with a FPU? The 020 or 030 looks like the PGA... but then again there is a black PLCC hanging around the RAM area... Not much information in this link below.. but the photos sure is interesting! bigbookofamigahardware.com/bboah/product.aspx?id=2001 Remember the rule, if its a 68020... and it is socketed... then a matching 030 (PGA or PLCC) can easily slip in there... I failed to notice this about my old M-tec 68020-i in time... otherwise I would have added a 16mhz 68030 to that board. Sigh

You're almost making me regret that I gave mine to Adrian!!! (Of course, he revived it and that Amiga 1000 is much happier now, and that's what is important...) ;-) Great vid!!! Also, do you have any Kickwork images? That is a floppy disk that has the kickstart and the WB on one floppy... I used to use that for my A1000 to save on a disk swap...

Other than playing games, what can you do with your 1000?

Hi French here with my A1000 original 1986 it's very rare to see an A1000 with logo Commodore and with a daughterboard. Is it an 110V or 220V (50Hz, 60 Hz) ?
