I built the Tamiya Rough Rider in 1979, fun build. And they did use hex head screws back then lol

This was my first tamiya kit and the original had all hex hardware except for the screws holding the body clip. Guess it was down hill all the way after that for tamiya screw-wise. The original kit also came with a small tube of silicon sealant to seal the gearbox and the receiver portion of the clear box because the metal casting fit and finish weren't that great. I got the reissued one also and the casting material and fit and finish were superior. One down side with the original kit was that it did not include any ball bearings whatsoever just brass bearings. Still love them. Oh i used to jump them on dirt ramps that are about a foot-ish high. Didnt fly too high nor far with the stock silver can and 7.2 Nicad but it took the jumps and beating no problem but then again they were not like the big air jumps we do with modern MT/buggy. Love the build will get a ampro kit to convert the reissue.

Yes the hex hardware was on the originals kits. The ball joints are different now also. The old ones didn't have the hex head on the ball itself. I wished I could have been on the live. I could have saved you a lot of hassle.

Hey buddy - I built a Tamiya HotShot back in 1985 when they were first released. Loved it! I have a Sand Scorcher Beetle I built on a Northwest Scalers Designs chassis that Corwin designed just for it. 👍 👍 I enjoy your show from Oklahoma!

This was my first kit, 1983 it was awesome for a 10 year old kid! It had an old school Futaba two stick. I tore it apart constantly due to being abused. I see tge different updates which had brass u joints and brass bearings in the rear hubs. Maybe the color of camera shows different? I want another

I had the Super Champ back in the 80s. The shocks were better with the original kits. They redesigned the shocks for the rerelease. Mine never leaked.

I had the Ford F150, which was essentially the same chassis, though with solid phosphor bronze bearings. That was in about 1981/2 IIRC.

Hey Matt, enjoyed watching! Quick question - can 3d printed parts be dyed using fabric dye/boiling water? Thanks!
@scalebuildersguild
@scalebuildersguild 3 года назад
I'm not sure Jerry. I think it would depend entirely upon the method of printing. Home FDM, probably not. SLS nylon, quite possibly!

Are any of the .stl files available for us to print at home? Spending US$350 at Shapeways for the printed parts is not going to happen.
@scalebuildersguild
@scalebuildersguild 2 года назад
You’ll have to ask Ampro about that. I’d argue that FDM isn’t going to get you nearly the quality, or strength, or resolution needed and you’d just be disappointed that you bothered to print it at home.

After watch like 3 or 4 of these videos from you, I'm surprised that tamyia hasn't sent you a cease and decist order to stop calling it a "D" bag... and from now on they are going to skip that letter in their kit bag selections..lol

I understand why you think cheese curd in a loincloth Is gross, But I don't understand why you think 20 million diff oil is gross. It's just a clear fluid. What is gross about it?

Non Leakey shocks are pretty much anything but axial. And I guess tamiya. I never could understand why axial Would let this go on for so long. It's ridiculous.
@lenteloco69
@lenteloco69 2 года назад
Disliked the video not because it was bad but because it’s insane to spend that kind of money on these upgrades if you want to call them that. The Tamiya Sand scorcher is going for $350-$400 and all of these upgrades are going for about $350 not including tax or shipping so that would make the entire kit $750 at its most expensive or 700 at its cheapest and that’s not including getting a servo, better motor and esc so you’re easily getting close to a $1000. Again it’s a cool build but it’s crazy Expensive to try to replicate not including all the time put it.

This project was about making a unique vehicle that I consider to be the most scale accurate Sand Scorcher. I'm thrilled to own one and can justify the cost because I know what went into designing and executing something like this. It's not for everybody.
