Excellent point on catch cans. I’ve had my Cobb Cai for 16K miles & not a hint of oil inside the tubes. Also, installed the AMS boost tubes, wasn’t a terrible install at all thanks to watching this video. Helped out a great deal.

How would oil get into your Intake tubes?!?! There is no possible way for oil to get into those. Nothing but clean air comes from the filter straight to the turbos. The catch can collects oil from the pcv line that comes from the valve cover then goes into the intake manifold. It never gets to the turbo pipes.
@mrsloth_8820
@mrsloth_8820 3 года назад
Just from the turbo I guess

This guy is clueless. I realized that when he said “hot and cold side” when referring to turbo inlet tubes.
@McSunny95
@McSunny95 3 года назад
a year late but you have pcv and ccv "dirty and clean side". its not uncommon for the charge pipes to have oil in them in boosted applications. Pcv closes above atmosphere while CCV vents regardless, and it vents into the charge side.

On my 17 2.7 the driver side bank vent plugs into the inlet tube abt 12" from turbo. And there was oil residue from were the vent plugs in towards the turbo nothing towards the filter like this guy was saying lol
@strokerta1986

@@Foxbodybarra that's hilarious because you clearly don't know what you are talking about lol cold/hot can absolutely be used to differentiate between the turbo inlet side and the turbo discharge side... One of those has ambient air and the other has super heated pre intercooler air...

You wouldn’t have oil residue on the LP side of the plumbing, only oil downstream of the turbo

Why would oil get up that far up in the intake?? Remove the hot side piping by the intercooler and you will see oil there! And yes catch cans are really good peace of mind on the dirty side “ passenger side” and clean side “ driver side”
@mountbaldy2008
@mountbaldy2008 4 года назад
The passenger side tube WILL separate if you off road. Ask me how I know? I ditched my CAI and went back to OEM airbox and its still separates. What is AMS doing to fix this ?
@OffroadAlliance
@OffroadAlliance 4 года назад
Eric Burney without proper installation it might. I used my truck off-road about 12 times in the last quarter and never had a single issue. There is an issue with the tube splitting at inlet with the COBB CAI and showed how to remedy that in the Raptor Junkies group.

Do you keep the stock plastic fan looking inserts and move them in each new ams tube or leave them out ?
@OffroadAlliance
@OffroadAlliance 4 года назад
Matthew Kasparian no. I removed them when I installed the COBB CAI. They are only for noise reduction and have zero effect on performance.

Offroad Alliance I’ve read they do actually have a positive effect on performance. Not much but some. Now on these new tubes who knows.

Have the before and after dynos been ran on the same dyno? What were the before and after numbers again? I believe you said in the video it was tested after the tubes on a different shops dyno?
@OffroadAlliance
@OffroadAlliance 4 года назад
Michael Burgoyne no, both were done at Hammer Performance on the same dyno. With the COBB Stage 2 we gained no extra HP but saw a spike in torque. We gained about 29 ft/LB. With ORA550 tune we gained 14 Hp and 35 ft/lb coming at 451/556. Dyno graphs can be sent you to if you like. We posted all results in my Raptor Junkies group on FB.

Oil doesn’t go in the turbo tubes, it goes back in to the inside of the intake manifold and that’s where you don’t want it to go back to (inside the engine) no oil should go back to the intake that’s what the catch can helps you prevent
@rickm9743
@rickm9743 4 года назад
Im confused I watch the video of the ORA 550 which stated 450 whp. But that was without the tubes. On here you say 451/556??? So the whp is the same???
@OffroadAlliance
@OffroadAlliance 4 года назад
Rick M no sir. The 451/556 (torque increased by 30 ft/lb) were on 91 octane while the 451 from ORA550 video were on 93 octane. The power curve also shifted to the left and we made the power earlier on. Let me know if you have more questions.
@rickm9743
@rickm9743 4 года назад
Thank you. I have the Whipple kit with intake, intercooler and tune on my Raptor now. I also have the SPD turbo adapters and Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and I know my truck not making that kind of power. I live in Ca so I can only get 91 octane. I am going to take my Raptor to get dynod and see where my numbers are and see if its worth it or not for me to upgrade to the ORA 550 package. Thanks for you response

So whats the point replacing stock plastic pipes with aftermarket plastic pipes. If you replacing pipelines (cold or hot side) at least go with aluminum pipes which helps to distribute heat faster.
@OffroadAlliance
@OffroadAlliance 4 года назад
Wojciech Gierczynski you should try it and let us know how they work out.
@sledgehammer8818
@sledgehammer8818 4 года назад
Plastic is an insulator and metal pipes absorb heat. If the pipes are metal they will absorb the engine bay heat and thus heat the intake air resulting in less hp over a plastic one. If you need to verify get a heat gun, drive the car until engine bay is hot check the plastic pipe and then check a metal pipe and see which is hotter.
