Thanks John 👌 might pick some of that up. Got my collection of flux in the fridge now 😅

The 11kV cable is prepared by knife only, by the way

@@sdgelectronics Thanks Steve 👍. Yes you must have the VS-213-A for your collection 😃 Yes I understand the inner cores on the 11kV cable are knife only mate when they're being spliced etc.. But what about say if you wanted to cut off a piece like the one in the video. Is there not a special tool to chop right through it in one go.. Or is a hacksaw the usual way? Cheers John

@@OrbiterElectronics It's normally just a hacksaw job, or a portable bandsaw. Nothing fancy!

@@sdgelectronics Thanks Steve 👍. I was asking our-kid about this too today as he's the head saftey dude on a large chemical site, and as you said the hacksaw and reciprocating saws etc are the general tools used on large cables. However he did mention their site industrial tools too. He turned up in his truck an hour later with an industrial cable cutting tool. It was bigger than my knipex stuff 😁.. A huge thing with similar jaws to that gear firemen use to remove vehicle doors & roofs etc 😯 😀

Hello John, nice to see you back at your bench. That is a pretty large wire you have there - be loads of fun to pull. The 213 looks good to me just for its cleaning properties. The flux I have been using is like tar to get off, but it works really well. I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner so it is all elbow grease and alcohol. I hope you and your mom are keeping well, it has be over 30c here for a week with high humidity. Really wears you down. Regards, Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for the comments as always my friend. Yes we're ok thank you.. Hope you and yours are too, including Bear of course. No real need for an ultrasonic with the 213 flux Dave, a bit of IPA works great on its own 👍. Anyway.. take care in that heat buddy. Kind Regards John

That 213 is looking like a good option for my MacBook repairs.

Thanks John...I'm trying to search for the silicone tip you use on the syringes but not having much luck...maybe I need a better parametric search. BTW, I must have missed exactly how that new vise actually holds stuff! UPDATE: now I know how vise works...still looking for tips!

Hi Dino.. Sorry my friend. Should have pointed out that they're nothing to do with electronics 😮 .. Below is a link to the particular ones I use. You can get the same 'Clover' ones on Ebay. You can also get a similar & cheaper type on Ebay too.. Just search for 'Knitting Needle Point Protectors.' Not sure how good the Ebay ones are though. Here are the green coloured 'Clover' type that I use.. www.clover-mfg.com/product/4/206 EDIT.. The CLOVER model number I use is 333/S Cheers Friend John

@@OrbiterElectronics Thanks John, never would have thought of those and their original application. They're available at our local craft store. Reminds me of a small tool for removing control knob retaining nuts from handheld ham radio gear. It looks like a very miniature version of the 4-spoked tool one would use to remove and tighten auto tire lug nuts. It's called a "Destuffing Tool" and as you'd imagine one would never have thought of that as a parametric search term...of course once I'd found that obscure reference it came up immediately on eBay and was the exact tool I needed!

@@PapasDino ..No problem Dino 👍. Yes some items names bear no resemblance at all to what they are do they, it makes them a right pain to find 🙂

How did the 559 and 213 compare with hot air and solder bridging ?

Now come on john, you just wanted to play with some solder lol :-D. I don't know about flux as i don't really fiddle with phones or muckbooks, but i would have thought the way the two fluxes clean the pins to be tinned/soldered would matter more than the residue. A good cleaner allows a faster tinning/solder job and less heat on the part. I did say i didnt know about flux, except multicore solder for bodging things lol :-D If you could take a smooth slice off that power cable and pot it in clear epoxy, it would be a nice coaster for your cup of tea/coffee, powerfull tea :-D. I also watch louis, i think he needs a karcher jetwash for some of the pcbs he repairs lol. Bloody warm weather aint it.
@sdgelectronics
@sdgelectronics 5 лет назад
Somehow Louis has lead everyone to believe you need huge amounts of flux to rework. Probably boosts his sales...
@zx8401ztv
@zx8401ztv 5 лет назад
SDG Electronics Yes he does go overboard with the flux, he has become very silly in many ways.:-( i started watching him when he made smarter/teaching videos. I like his employee paul, very precise and technally better than louis. Just my opinion of cause.

Hi Harv.. I sure did, I love soldering AND welding 😀. I'm hoping to get a real fine blade for my recip saw soon to get that big cables ends nice & smooth. Yea.. I hate the heat mate, autumn/winter are my favourite seasons 👍

Your looking for 'Point Protectors.' They're actually for knitting, but serve the flux syringe tip purpose very well. You can pick them in a few places & on ebay too.. www.clover-mfg.com/product/4/206

Interesting my 559 flux clean off easy you may have bought a fake 559
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 4 года назад
Hi.. I just meant that the 559 was seemingly more sticky than the 213 flux which had more of waxy type consistency, this wiped off super easily. The Amtech fluxes I use are all purchased from an authorised Amtech reseller in the UK 👍
