Boring, not science at least not between Vancouver, BC and Partland

They used to have eight of those train sets, six of them were retired after the crash in December 2017 Now they are down to only two Talgo trainsets

Thanks for the vid sir, gorgeous route. I believe they are running the last two Talgo trainsets on the BC run now, and their replacements are ordered for delivery sometime in 2026.

Thank you so much! And yes! I was surprised to see it in Bellingham last Monday, wish I got a chance to try it but I did like the Horizon sets

Seattle-Vancouver has the opportunity to be one of busiest routes.

Before they opened up the Point Defiance bypass between Tacoma and Olympia, the train went along the Tacoma Narrows, which was arguably an even more stunning scenery than around Bellingham. However, it cost about a quarter hour in time and had a nasty bottleneck through a single-track tunnel along the way.

Doing a trip of both Vancouver and Seattle...fly into Vancouver from the East Coast USA, and fly out from Seattle. Using this train to go from Vancouver to Seattle. Low-key one of my most excited parts of the trip. No stranger to Amtrak taking the Northeast Regional...but the parts I've road between mostly Baltimore and DC there is basically nothing to look at outside lol.

So bummed they aren’t using Talgos north of Seattle. I’m taking the Cascades in a couple of days, and was looking forward to riding on the Talgos. Oh well.

There's a US Pre-clearance check point in Victoria, BC that brings you back by ferry to Port Angeles, WA on the Coho ferry boat.

Good question! I'm not 100% sure but I doubt it in all honesty. WA State Ferry had one in Sidney for the San Jaun Islands (cuz they're so small and not on the mainland) but Black Ball Ferry doesn't have one. It's in Port Angeles

finally FINALLY rode the Amtrak Cascades with my partner last weekend and we had a blast. We rode the busiest section from Seattle to Portland, and it was nice to see how packed the train was, clearly it's a relied upon service in the region. Unfortunately we only got Horizon coaches, which as I understand it is kind of the norm now that the Talgos are really on the way out and Siemens hasn't delivered the Airo trainsets yet

I heard the seats are a huge downgrade in comfort compared to the ones that have been in service for many years now

@@nonrevmax I have heard the same thing unfortunately. not as big of a deal on the corridor services but those longer distance routes won't benefit. a modern look to Amtrak definitely won't hurt though

Beautiful. WIth the Talgos, there's now only the two "8" sets left, the type 6s were all retired because of that terrible accident when the bypass was opened. Rotten shame there weren't more 8s made.

Great video - pity Amtrak doesn't appear to clean passenger windows before departure🤔 - the views, especially across the water were awesome to watch. Looks like I now have another train journey to add to my "Bucket List'. I have done the Amtrak's Maple Leaf from NY city to Toronto & then caught ViaRail to Ottawa in winter - gee was that cold but very scenic with the snow☃ Thank you for sharing this awesome train journey.

😯 Did you just say “The WRONG Vancouver?!” 😂 I have spent the better part of 35 years having to explain to people that I live in the Vancouver that is in Wa State, across the Columbia River from Portland, not the Vancouver that is on the wrong side of the US border up north. But no offense taken, your Vancouver is beautiful too. 💜

Lol. I consider my northern side of Vancouver the 'right side'. No offense taken..❤😂

Great memories for me. Around 15-25 years ago I rode all the AMTRAK rail west of St. Louis to see the West. On one of the trips I included the Canadian back and forth between Vancouver and Jasper. I took a trolley tour around Vancouver between connections there coming back. I remember for my trip though the timing of connections worked better for me taking an AMTRAK supported bus between Vancouver and Seattle so missed that part but the Empire Builder and Coast Starlight saw the rest. Good video.

Amtrak Cascades retiring Talgo that's why you only see it on seattle and eugene route plus not enough riders after covid on the Vancouver route. Amtrak Cascades should be receiving new Siemens Venture cars soon w/ cab cars like VIA rail's setup

Is it better to ride on the left or right side of the train? We will be doing this route in a few months. Thx!

Right side going South, Left side going North. The best views are along the ocean between Vancouver, BC and Seattle

Do you get to pick your seat? How does that work?
@nonrevmax
@nonrevmax 11 месяцев назад
There are no seat reservations outside of the North East Corridor and Palmetto, so it's first come/come first served. The two seaters on the good side of the train were saved for parties of two.

Would a "Real ID" driver's license suffice as a border-crossing document for US citizens on the Cascades? My husband's and my current driver's licenses are not the "Real ID" type, but we're thinking of upgrading them to the "Real ID"-compliant versions when we renew them this winter.

Just using a passport would be your golden ticket
@raakone

I knew someone who used (in 2010) an enhanced ID card from New York (had proof of citiizenship, alternative to license for non-drivers) that was accepted on the Adirondack (to Montreal)
@arandomyoutubechannel2940
@arandomyoutubechannel2940 6 месяцев назад
No, Real ID driver's licenses are not sufficient for border crossings. You would need either a passport or a enhanced driver's license or ID. Enhanced driver's licenses are different from real ID driver's licenses.

comfortable? comfortable? The Cascades was the worst train i have ever been on (Vancouver bc to Seattle wa). by far the worst. i paid for a first-class ticket because of my elderly father...and it was the same as coach and my seat had no armrest....there was supposed to be one, but it was gone.
