NOTE: In this part of the manga, Ace appeared just like 2-3 chapters but since he becomed the most popular character quickly like a "BOOM" and he didnt appeared in the manga again for long time, they decided to make his appearance a bit longer in the anime with some half filler episodes w Imagine the amounth of merch, goods, bonus character in the videogames and more...Ace was probably the first character that got the most merch just for his one appearance in short time XD

The way Luffy interrupts that stand-off and how it unfolds from there is still one of my favorite comedic moments in the series. There are many other fun moments, but this one just seems perfect: not too short, not too long, and totally believable for all the idiots involved.

i'm afraid that Luffy's FULL backstory is a long time away yet, but yeah you'll like it when you get there.

Common mistake: Luffys devil fruit is NOT where his physical strength comes from. It's actually the opposite. Think about the strength necessary to pull/push a rubber band 1km (assuming it wouldn't break).

So the anime put a bit of filler in next, mainly because Ace is a really popular character and they wanted to give him more screen time. In the manga, Ace does what he does at the end of the filler right here, which I will leave intentionally vague. That being said, it's still good filler and you should still watch it.

I also love Smoker! I think he is such an interesting and great character.

Luffy being this dumb is really something mostly from the anime that they are using to pad out the story in this part, sometimes it can be funny but I do think they overused it a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️ he isn't quite this inept in the original manga All the stuff with Luffy getting lost both times is anime filler, in the manga he just runs directly off the ship to the restaurant with Ace and Smoker, and that part plays out exactly the same. Then when Ace saves him from Smoker he runs directly back to the going merry with the rest of the crew and they talk So basically dont worry about this being a long term flanderization of Luffy's character, it really only happens in this saga and the next when the anime wants to pad out the runtime with some comedy, I always just think of it as more of a comedy bit rather than his real character

I told you, alabasta arc also have a strong plot story telling. Thats why its still one of my favourite arc from the entire sries, and its the beginning of peak storytelling . Plus its super classic and so funny. 😂 I feel so nostalgic watching this arc, as iam a fan for 20 years

Ace is the one character I expect people to be spoiled about. He's so popular that I imagine there are memes out there that spoil all his important moments. That being said When Luffys BS does come up it is one of my fave arcs.

This arc is also one of the reasons I keep saying filler isn't bad, padding and unnecessary flashbacks are (and in One Piece some seem unnecessary, until you realize it's been 80 episodes ago.. or one and a half years), the Ace scenes are mostly not in the manga IIRC. So technically, filler, but also canon.

Nerdy is still using real world logic while watching this.. and there’s nothing wrong with that but that just means you aren’t fully immersed. For example, do you think Luffy would really be so wasteful as to not eat the bones?? My guy can punch concrete like it’s sand.. he could easily crunch down roasted bones into something that powerful stomach could digest.. probably instantly with that appetite lol

Smoker is the best ... one of my favourite marines !!! And Ace is just cool AF .... while the fillers early in this arc annoy me a bit, they also give us more more time to spent with Ace and the crew (well, that's the charm of a good filler... or should be)

Just wanna add that it seems like since Luffy's whole body is rubber, it doesn't show his muscles to the same degree that Ace's muscles are visible. Luffy has trained hard as hell before leaving his island. He is stronger from the start than he looks, he might look lanky but as we have seen his attacks are hellishly strong already.

Sanji - kun to Sanji -san isn't demotion its promotion. She is starting to accept them as friends instead of outsiders with whom she uses pleasantries. You use san not to some you just respect but with whom you have a little far away relationship while san means she is more frank with Sanji now which is more friendly

Just a note. I'm almost sure that Luffy's raw strength has nothing to do with his devil fruit. In general if a devil fruit doesn't give strength abilities the strength is the same with or without it. If not correct me 🤗

Ace's Bounty hasn't been revealed in the Manga or anime. But it has been revealed in a databook. In this arc it is 550,000,000. For refrance Luffy is at 30 million. Crocodile was frozen at 80 million.

The power of the devil fruit is only as strong as its user. Basically luffy didn’t get all that strength from the devil fruit. He got it from training. The stronger the user gets the stronger the power of the devil fruit gets

Luffy is naturally strong through hard training before he ate a Devil Fruit. He was likely already at least as strong as Zoro.

I honestly think that it's the opposite; the devil fruit makes Luffy look less jacked than he actually is. Luffy really should look just as jacked as Zoro, at least.

Luffy being separated from the rest of the group is filler. In the manga he is not that stupid. Ace isn't with the Straw Hats that long in the manga either. Ace is in the restaurant, fighting Smoker and destroying the ships. Afterwards, Ace leave and looks for Blackbeard. And I have to agree with you, Smoker is great and to this day my favorite character in One Piece. I've been waiting for years for him to appear again in the current chapters.

Why should the future King of the Pirates feel insecure about his older brother's powers whom he hasn't seen in 3 years? It's a neat power no doubt but Luffy's power is incredibly strong as well.

I wouldn't say it is the devil fruit that gives Luffy power. Remember grandpa Garp? He's pretty damn strong and the live action never showed whether or not he had a devil fruit to source that power! I think it is more a combination of art style (Luffy is a very flexible character and more details make decent animation of his powers hard), as well as his powers generally not going too well with 'jackedness'. His entire body is basically one never-ending muscle capable of exerting forces in some way or another, right?

you may have been "spoiled" by the Garp thing in OPLA, but hey at least you got the surprise with Ace, was kinda great this way honestly cuz you now know Monkey D. means family and Luffy has family members doing their own stuff so the back and forth of "Oh duh, his brother....wait no?......Oh he is!!". But how is he? is it brother from another mother? just a fake name he put on himself to sound cooler? Find out .....maybe this arc or in 10 arcs from now maybe. not sure if this is a spoiler exactly to say: cuz this is a LONG manga/anime that has loads built up and all, there's a LOT of stuff that it's been 10 or 20 years and still barely know some characters, or even places and things name dropped like once or twice. It's great And terrible to be an OP fan cuz of that

Fun fact: the Whitebeard tattoo on Ace's back is actually in the shape of a Manji in the manga...but with the horrible connotation it tends to have when flipped,it was changed to the much more boring,sauceless skull cross in the anime. Shame. Also,gotta love how we're slowly being introduced to the bigger players of this world,with Blackbeard being mentioned in hushed tones by Dalton back in Drum and now here by Ace. He must be some crazy wacko to kill someone in his own crew,jump ship and then go conquer a random kingdom in the grand line with his new buddies.

They will eventually explain why Ace have different last name than Luffy, but that won't be anytime soon.

If you haven't tried the English dub yet, I highly recommend it. I've watched all of One Piece and find the dub actors far superior to the original.

The next few episodes are filler and you should skip them and get straight into the Alabasta plot. The fillers have Ace which is obviously a positive, but they are still not interesting and I would recommend not watching them.
