An early Mk1 Ford Sierra 2.0 GL father and son owned and only 27,013 miles.
EQUIPMENT
Five-door hatchback body, toned polycarbonate bumpers with bright insert, bright side window surrounds, black bodyside protection moulding with bright insert, body colour radiator grille, remote drivers door mirror, analogue clock, cigar lighter, seatbelt warning light. Factory Options; Metallic paint, five-speed gearbox, remote control passenger door mirror, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass, SRT32P FM radio/cassette, rear seat heat blinds, rear seat belts. Dealer Accessories; Sierra mud flaps, Sierra rubber mats, Smoothy Light Guards, front seat covers.
EXTERIOR
Finished in factory cost optional Metallic Champagne Gold, (Code O 3), the original finish is quite incredible with a rich and uniform shine. All factory panels remain fitted and the underside is in perfect structural order thanks to garage storage from new. A few markings to the excellent finish are barely worthy of mention such as some touched in chips to the bonnet and boot lid edge. All glass and rubbers are perfect factory fitment as are the light clusters and Lucas headlights with have been protected from new with optional Smoothy Light Guards. Original badges and model designation are in excellent condition and the supplying Ford Main Dealer number plates and tax disc holder remain with even the very first 1983 disc still in situ!
INTERIOR
The standard Chelsea Crushed Velour trim in Peat colour scheme, (Code C 7), is in outstanding condition. The front seats have worn fitted covers since new and so the original upholstery is very clean and the unworn seat structures boast firm bolsters and bases. Matching door cards have no shrinkage with only slight lift to the N/S rear door top and all plastics are beautifully preserved. Protected by genuine Ford Sierra rubber over mats, the plush colour-keyed velour carpet is free from wear and the neutral tone headlining is excellent. Virtually unheard of for a Mk1 Sierra, the fully intact dashboard has no cracks whatsoever! All switchgear, gauges and warning lights are fully functional including the Ford SRT32P FM radio/cassette and analogue clock. The spotless boot area has immaculate carpeting and even PDI scribing to the boot floor has survived.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The desirable 2.0 OHC ‘Pinto’ features automatic choke, electronic ignition and a sequential twin venturi carburettor. Power output is quoted at 104bhp at 5200rpm with maximum torque figure of 157Nm at 4000rpm to achieve 0-60mph in 9.8 seconds and a top speed of 115mph. The beautifully clean engine bay displays factory wax, labels and build plates as well as original stampings to the slam panel, inner bonnet edge and inner wings with Ford emblem and date stamps clearly visible. The optional five-speed manual gearbox helps modern day cruising.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 13in steel wheels wear the GL twin-vent full width wheel covers in excellent condition with no kerb damage and only one trim showing some very light scratches. Matching Uniroyal Rainsport 165/80 R13 tyres are brand new fitment in April 2024 with zero miles covered. The dual line servo assisted brakes with front discs and rear drums bring the car up straight and steady having been recently overhauled.
HISTORY FILE
Manufactured in June 1983 and supplied new on the 1st August by Ford Main Dealer, Busseys of Norwich to Mr Dennis Vaughan. The car has had just two registered keepers in total with ownership passing to his son, Allen Vaughan, of same address in 2019. The vehicle order form and sales invoice are made out to the first owner and confirm the price paid of £6,222.89 less part exchange allowance of £1,922.89 for his 1979 Ford Cortina MK4 2.0S, clearly a Ford fan! The incredible history file includes the PDI checklist from the supplying dealer and receipts for accessories such as the headlamp guards and rear blinds. Even the cold start guide, recall letters and tax discs dating back to the very first issue in 1983 have been kept. The folder continues with a huge file of service receipts and invoices dating back to the first service in 1984 as well as comprehensive MOT records to warrant the 27,013 miles. In April 2024 a major service was carried out with all fluids changed as well as a cambelt and water pump replacement and full brake overhaul.
HPI Clear.

Love it! Used to be street furniture in the 1980s and 1990s. Now a rare sight. Especially in this condition.

I love the headlamp protectors. The earliest Sierras have a certain quality and character that the later ones somehow have lost.

I attended Watford College in 1982 and we visited Ford at Dagenham, the Cortina was still in production but we saw an early Sierra being wheeled along on a trolley/jig, the tour guide smiled and said you werent supposed to see that. Thanks as always for a super upload, best wishes to all at KGF and fellow viewers,

Stunning car, I've always loved the mk1's! Just seeing this car reminds me a lot of my grandparents' 2.0 Ghia in this same colour, SKG17Y, bought new in April 1983, and then owned it for 12 years. A lovely smooth car to ride in, with some amazing features back then like the underbonnet lamp, ice indicator, stopwatch and lots of warning lights. My grandad later fitted a 2.0iS rubber spoiler to the tailgate, to solve the crosswinds issue these cars tended to have. And, of course, it had the ultra-soft Chatsworth upholstery, rear lamp lenses with the dark horizontal stripes, wood door-card caps and 3-vent wheel trims, that only the very first ones had. It was also a 5-speed, and would, even today, be a very capable, efficient and quiet car on the motorway.

I'm still drooling over that Citroen Ami you were selling to even consider a planet-killing monster like this Sierra! Only kidding, this is a lovely example of an iconic car that can keep up with anything new on the roads today. Hope it goes to a good home!

@@KGFClassicCars I know I'd stand more chance of surviving a crash uninjured in the Sierra than the Citroen, which frankly, looks like a collision with a Sparrow would see it declared as an insurance write-off.

Wow! Talk about a time capsule! Brings back happy memories of a neighbour’s brand new ‘84 Sierra GL, which I regularly used to have a lift in - his was white, but (from memory) it had broadly the same interior - I vividly remembered being fascinated by the array of orange tell-tale lights on the dashboard! Odd that it didn’t have a ref counter though, considering the driver-centric marketing Ford used at the time!

Wow what an absolute rarity is the Ford Sierra Mk1 on our roads nowadays & that car looks brand new inside & out, a good sign of it being very well maintained throughout its life. You can't beat a Ford Pinto engine & I do like the headlamp protectors & original wheel covers as well as the interior, all screaming 1980's! Such a shame rust finished off these cars!

Takes me back to when i was 10 years old. Dad had a cortina 2.0 ghia company car and one evening came home from work in the new car. A sierra 1.6 ghia in crystal green. It seemed so futuristic with its green display showing if doors eere open etc pluss it had front electric windows! Mum soon hated it as the 1.6 engine had no guts and was dreadfully un reliable. Dvh724y if i remember correctly

Remember these cars well and how a GL would have been aspirational. Looking at the car now I am shocked how basic it was. Windy down windows, no AC etc. We have become very spoilt in what we expect from a new car. Amazing example though.
