Just realized you could very easily make a Ricky gervais soundboard with all of those and the monkey news intro, as well as the "he's gone and written it down!" From Karl's diary
@@MaximilianonMars I dunno, I think he just plays the straight-man to Karl, if he was really a hardass he wouldn't have put up with Karl as long as he did
@@MaximilianonMars He definitely is hamming it up for a bit but he's not wrong: they really are segregated and exploited there. Their existence is reduced down to one trait about them: their dwarfism. That would prevent some parts of their life from being normal sure, but there's no reason they couldn't have a somewhat normal life in a normal city. Instead the PRC tucked them away and has them put on little shows to be laughed at. Sure they're happy, the alternative is destitution in a major city or god knows what else in the PRC, doesn't make it right.
@@aredub1847 He'd not be OK with it, he'd be happier than a pig in shit. He'd be happy going through ANY of those long treks from Idiot Abroad to go see that shit!
He's not wrong mind, is he. lol. Warwick always nabs them roles, he's even got an agency that hires other dwarves to make sure he gets the best ones lmao
+FairnessAdvocate It's much more efficient to make 4 foot tall mining tunnels. The benefits are unbelievable. These are Asian dwarves, though, so they lack the facial hair their European dwarven cousins are famous for.
He cannot fathom how Warwick on a shelf is “art” and another dwarf on a mushroom is “exploitation”. And, he’s not wrong. Either - both are detestable and should stop, or both are work/income and should be celebrated. But, the issue would be, Warwick wouldn’t have work (other than at Christmas), and his dwarf talent agency where he represents other little fellas would go out of business.
@@JDAfrica In other words, Warwick is a hypocrite, Karl is right. You're right, either both are detestable, or both are welcome. I lean towards the latter, why shouldn't they have their own little communities like that? What sort of life do they have if we just act they're all normal?
Why wouldn't he? Made his career for precisely the reason he said. He was used basically as a freak he wasn't cast in roles for his amazing acting ability but because he's 3 feet tall. So it does seem messed up him getting rich of essentially the same thing
@@philbecker4676 it's the CCP you tit I don't honestly think it's a good idea I'm pointing out he hypocrisy of a man that dressed as a leprechaun in a blackploitation movie saying he is outraged at the dwarf village in China. If you can't see the absurdity of that then you aren't as smart as you seem to think.
@@TuorTheBlessedOfUlmo Except you're ignoring the fact that as an actor, Warwick has literally had to scratch and claw his way to where he's at, now, while the people in that village are literally only there because it's one of the only ways they can make a living. What other fucking work could he have done other than play the ewok or the leprechaun? Another better example would be Peter Dinklage, who has specifically tried to avoid roles that he could only land because he's a dwarf. I highly doubt he'd be okay with it if somebody asked him about it. Why should Warwick be fine with it just because that's how he became famous? Being cast in Star Wars certainly did most of that. He doesn't enjoy being 3 feet tall, and he didn't ever enjoy the fact that he could only land certain roles because of it. Like what, he's not allowed to speak out against the exploitation of people such as himself just because he did the best with what life gave him?? That doesn't make any sense.
@@WafflezDay Peter dinklage... The guy who played a type cast dwarf in got, and in Elf he played a a guy whose sole purpose was to be made fun off. Thanks for proving my point mate
To be fair, I don't think Karl is going to laugh at them, he seemed to genuinely like them and find comradery. People watching this show is kind of the same, they watch to see Karl say stupid stuff by accident. At the end of the day the Olympics is the height of freak shows. I think the village is exploitative, but that doesn't mean everyone who goes is trying to exploit them.
I like freaks too , u av to admit there intesting , and if there not being forced to do it, they are enjoying it and are happy, good on em init.warwick does what makes him happy , everyone enjoys diff things
I think it shows Karl's character here. He's not saying how odd they are or that they should be doing things for other's amusement. He's genuinely happy for them. That they have a place made for them and that they are in charge. I think that's why he's so dumbfounded by the reaction he gets. He's just thinking how grand it is for them and that they're doing well. Not that they need to be there and the only worth they have is as an oddity.
Warwick complains about them being paraded around … he an “actor” the only reason he got those roles are because he’s a midget Pretty hypocritical if you ask me
Nah he was right. He was there, Warwick was not. He was making assumptions without being present. You don't have to be a dwarf to have an opinion on dwarf things.
"THere's a woman I've met, she's only been here 4 months, and she already has her own lil' mushrom to live in. Now _you_ tell me that's wrong." "Doin' a lil' bit of woodwork, ain' it. It's amazin'. I mean it's not crap is it?" "...Yeah! He was at the top, had a little cloak, crown, and lil' shades on. You could _tell_ he was in charge."
The fact that Karl really can't see this village for what it really is and just takes it at face value is hilarious. Like he just walked into the Wizard of Oz.
i also thought it was a place they gathered and just lived normally but their house were better suited for their size...and i didn't think they would be completly segregated either i thought long people could come and go and some longer family members also lived their..i just thought the houses and workplaces were better in size for them
+Jason Murdock I know your comment is quite old, but he does, he has 'The Moaning of Life' where Ricky and Steve are not part of it. He goes, seemingly, where he wants to for the theme of the episode. It came out before you left your comment so I figured I'd give you a heads up. The second season of it starts soon too!
As usual Karl has a solid point. Warick has done all sorts of roles to earn a crust for him and his family. Why can't the Chinese dwarfs do the same even if it is a kitch as hell ?
@@AbandonedVoid I look at that video and see a cheesy theme park with little people performers. You look at it and see, what exactly ? A gulag entertainment camp staffed by enslaved dwarfs ? What evidence is there that they aren't employed perfectly legally, like they do in Hollywood or Disneyland ?
@@Dee-nonamnamrson8718 So you see a gulag slave labor camp for dwarfs where they stroll around in gaudy uniforms and are forced to put on shows for thousands of paying guests and foreign film crews. You are hallucinating.
This program bshould have swept award shows everywhere it aired. I've laughed harder and more frequently than any other show in recent history. Pure comedy Gold!
I love how at the start they all greet him in their language and Karl just throws out an “alright?” It’s just like a reflex “you acknowledged me, here’s my acknowledgment”
Karl -“You mean if work dries up, they’re not makin another Star Wars, you can’t dress up as a little monkey, you got no money comin in, you wouldn’t think about comin here, then?” Warrick - “Definitely not.” The look on Karl’s face if priceless.
Of course he will not go... Uk has welfare and laws against discriminations.... And, by the way he is a star and he should remember all the roles he played as a elf, creature... To become a star into tall people's cinema.
he kind of isn't easily recognizable though. most of his roles involved him being in full costume. unless you watched stuff like "life's too short", you may not know who he was
In the end, Karl was right, saying to Warwick Davis (who was Wicket in Star Wars and Prof. Flitwick in Harry Potter) that stuff, because in a sort of way, the dwarf condition made Warwick what he now is, an actor who does dwarfs roles.
@@CigsInABlanket I think it's likely he meant that as an actor, those are the only roles available to Warwick. He didn't become an actor because of his size, and as you rightly pointed out, there are lots of careers he could have chosen and he is clearly well educated. If Hollywood is still struggling to put men and women of darker complexion in lead roles, then I dont expect them to put anyone who isnt "able-bodied" in a leading man/leading lady role just yet. Obviously, I want to see this change. It's the only way peoples mindsets will shift.
@@craigmaloney6340 So you're saying he became an actor and expected something different? I don't think Warwick was so deluded, even in his younger years. He knew what he was getting into, likely even expected it was what would make him stand out and be successful in such a career. But yes, I agree, it would be nice to see him in some roles that aren't taking advantage of his stature.
@@CigsInABlanket No, that's not what I'm saying! He is an actor by choice. I'm just saying it's as shame the film industry isnt at a point where a leading man or woman role could go to someone with dwarfism. There are stories to be told, interesting stories, but disability is represented poorly on screen, often they are depicted as vulnerable and detached from society when in reality people with disabilities have to overcome adversity every day. So its either that sort of representation or is some sort of Oscar Winning tear-jerker (My Left Foot, for example or A Beautiful Mind.) Where are the rom coms featuring people with disabilities? The family drama? Hell I'd pay to see an autistic action hero on screen or a deaf martial artist.
This is still hilarious, always hilarious... XD The way Karl gets fascinated by different ways of life and always sees a thing he can describe as "alright" is amazing. He's not as blind to realities as many think but he's definitely got more than an ounce of optimism in him especially when surrounded by dwarves and "freaks". The comment about having a mushroom to live in already and in general... His enthusiasm to wander about a miniature house, it's priceless...
i love how karl really exposes warwick's double standards here - he takes up roles in movies where he's made to look like a novelty character, yet he says these chinese dwarfs are pandering to demand for a "freak show". karl's a brill genius, make no mistake about it.
@AzerGhost16 What's the difference with this village then? They're being employed for their size. There's no evidence that they're being exploited or segregated; what, because they're playing the roles of fairies and the like that's exploitation? Then what about what Warwick does? We don't know enough to say this is anything other than employment for these people.
Shredded Cheese I think that Warwick means that these people live in a community of all-dwarves. It’s kind of awful for Chinese people to take a bunch of dwarves and put them together, make them act as fairies and fantastical creatures. It takes their value as humans and denies them a sense of normality. The key difference between Warwick and the performers is that Warwick has a normal life besides his acting career, whilst these Chinese little people literally live in mushroom-esque houses
@@maple2524 Don't think they "Took" them. they are employed there.. Pretty sure the whole place is a show and the dwarfs don't actually live in those mushrooms. they didn't even have doors or windows ffs, its just a show. they'll go home at the end of the night like any other performer. Karl just assumed they actually lived their because of the "dwarf houses".
The Dwarf Village is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Mainly because of the architect of the buildings. They give me a happy feeling. No wonder why Karl kind of enjoyed the place. As long as everyone there is happy, this is a great place to visit.
I was drinking water when Karl said that a woman has only been here 4 months and she's already got her own mushroom to live in. I spat out all the water through my nose lol
"I met a woman, she' s a little dwarf, she's been here for 4 months and she's already got her own mushroom to live in" LMFAO okay now I'm convinced Karl is more a comedian than an idiot
The funniest thing about this clip is when Karl says "there's a woman that I met who's a little dwarf, she's only been here 4 months and she's already got her own mushroom to live in. And you tell me that's wrong."
He's such a pure person not one bad bone in him he's not there to laugh at anyone he's genuinely interested and loves to see things out of the norm how the world works
When Karl is under pressure or is in an uncomfortable position, he comes of with the funniest things. To this day, mainly because of An Idiot Abroad, i call Karl Pilkington the funniest man alive, some might disagree, some might agree but thats my opinion. The reason Ricky or Steve were not sent is because they've gone to different countries and embraced new cultures whilst Karl hasn't, he thinks any one who doesn't have a similar culture to the British is fascinating/weird.
I see both points of view. On one hand it's great they have somewhere where they can go to make money and live where it's all adapted for them, and it makes sense that they make a little community where everything caters to their needs, but on the other hand it's sad that society doesn't try to include people with different bodies and abilities more so they don't have to build a village separately and can hang around with everyone else.
How do we know they aren’t more happy living amongst other dwarfs? All of them will be in the same boat, everything will be designed for their size so it’s probably more comfortable and safety plus they won’t be making fun of each other for their height.
@@jewellui "how do we know they arent happy living amongst other dwarfs" because they arent fucking wild animals and they can speak for themselves and what they want you idiot.
