There isn't much point asking men on these shows to comment. Imagine if McMahon said 'its true. women have no place here' and that's his honest opinion. He won't be coming back next week cos he will be unwelcome or even fired. So they will say 'the right thing as opposed to their honest opinions.

I'm in the Jason Cundy camp when it comes to this topic. I don't mind female analysts, but I'm not crazy about them doing commentary for 90 minutes, especially play by play.

Having ex women's footballers as pundits in mens game just doesnt work. No credibility at all. No issue having proper female pundits/journos eg Melissa Reddy, Jules Breach, Kelly Cates etc. Jake Humphreys on the other hand should go back to CBBC.

The difference between most of the men pundits and the women they put on is the likes of mcmanaman, neville, carragger have played at the HIGHEST LEVEL in football period which just so happens to be mens football. If women's football was the highest level they would have no place there. Jake Humphries job is to coordinate the conversation, not give his 'EXPERT' opinion and if he did he would be out of place because he hasn't got the credibility/experience. I'm sorry but Rachel has not played at the 'elite' level in football as a whole. Jake sitting there and saying look we've got a top level woman and a top level man as if the two are the same is disingenuous. Nothing sexiest just facts.

Why don't BT and Sky get division 3 managers/players on as pundits discussing premiere league if its just about having an opinion ?

I bet if Mcmanaman and Hargreaves were at home they'd be turning off when the female gives her opinion. It's basic human nature and a male of the species are being criticised for not being interested on a womens opinion on what is more or less a mans sport.Like i said earlier.why not the women comment on the womens game and the men on the mens game.

I think the issue is that there is no demand for Rachel Brown and Alex Scott. I'd wager that 90+% of viewers of men's football on TV hadn't heard of them before their punditry, so would rather listen to insight from ex players they admire and can relate to. It's not that they don't in particularly know their stuff it's because no one knows who they are and there's no demand for them. We don't have football journalists doing punditry on Premier League games, not because they don't have the insight but because viewers don't know them and have less interest in hearing what they have to say than ex male players. This is why people reject it, because it's quite clearly forced.

There is no problem with women talking about football, most football fans prefer hearing it from a man. Alex Scott did not play in the same level as Rio, Gary etc and we usually prefer listening to these people for that reason.

Definitely affects the level of banter on the show. I think the lack of banter is a problem not the gender

I reckon Alex Scott is Sky’s best pundit atm which is the funniest part of all this, much more knowledgeable than dumb Graeme Souness or Paul Merson

Women should commentate on the women's game and men on the men's game...simple as that. I'm female and I used to play but I can't bear hearing women talk about the men's game like that have played at that level. They are simply on there as it is politically correct.

The other day Graeme souness asked Alex Scott what a low block is..... Enough said.

All these women complain about inequality in sports yet all these women only want to cover men's football, why? Money. Women seem to care more about making money than actually promoting and helping women's football. How can the women's game improve if not even women cares about it?

Maybe they should ask the fans rather than forcing female commentators on us. I'm watching Chelsea v Everton at the moment and karen Carney is atrocious. She sounds like shes trying to replicate the stereotypical commentators.. which makes her sound amateurish. Its cringeworthy.

If gender is irrelevant, would BT be happy to have 2 women and 1 man or an all women panel? They wouldn't, because at the end of the day they are providing a product, and companies want customers to like their product, and the customers want men. Therefore, she absolutely is a token.

I don't really care but when they talk about as if they know what its like being in some players shoes, leave it out. They haven't got the slightest more of an idea than a fan. The pressure isn't the same and neither is the game. Womens football is totally different at the top level. Intensity doesn't exist in women's football

It's not that women cannot be pundits on men's football. They just haven't had the experience of playing at the top elite level of football so I'd rather hear the opinions of ex male players who are well informed. I'm sure women are more knowledgeable than men about ladies football and are in a better position to give their views on it.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say we don't care whether they're male or female all we ask is that they're good...Alex Scott is a prime example of what we want and Tim Sherwood is an example of what we don't want. I watch every game possible and watch a lot of videos on RU-vid including women's football.

Someone wrote a few weeks ago that they contacted BBC and asked for the viewing figures of their Womens Football Show and is still awaiting a reply. The argument was twisted here from the panel by comparing womans top level game on the same as mens, the average person wouldnt know even the top female players walking down the street wheras the men live in a world where they cant even walk down the street due to the showbiz persona they rightly or wrongly have, the pressures and experiences of the 2 top levels are so far apart that its hard to know where to start. How many of these female players have played in a cauldron of hostility on a Champions League night at Galatasaray, Dortmund, Celtic or Belgrade and know the real pressures, the answer is of course none but that doesnt stop them being rolled out on CL nights to get paid for talking about something they know as much about as me as a spectator

Yet in the women’s game ( and I have watched several Games recently including the league cup final , Chelsea v City ) and NO MALE commentators, NO male pundits , No male presenters ..???? Elite level in the women's game is no where near the elite level in the men's game. In reality it's closer to school boy level.

Alex Scott has been very good, but has been on far too much now. She pops up on Sky, ITV, BBC, etc, unlike any other pundit. Oversaturated.

There's no point denying that having female pundits on, is clearly in an effort to appeal to a wider audience and to appease the pc narrative. Having said that, Alex on sky has made some great arguments and is clearly good enough and on the level. But both Sky and BT are worried about business, not the women's rights movement.

Alex Scott is a fantastic pundit.

Owen and Steve are there because they are top level footballers who reached the pinnacle of their professsion. Rachel is there because she is a woman. Her level of football is the equivalent of U16 boys (at best). To have her on there is just to have a woman. The footballing public want to hear from those who have been there and done it, know the game inside out. That excludes all women who will never appreciate what that entails because without forced selection they would never be at the top of the game. It’s a black and white reality that no one wants to lose their job over promoting.

People are having a go at Rachel and Alex for not playing at the top level but they’re fine with Jake presenting the show and he hasn’t played at any level.

I have no problem with her as a person or any women playing football,but I've stopped watching the punditry now as I'm not concerned with what the ladies have to say.

There should be schoolboy pundits as well, seeing they usually beat women's national sides.

Let’s be honest there is something more soothing about a mans voice when they are commentating. I think it’s the fact that the commentators often have to raise their voices in exciting moments and when the women raise their voice they often sound very shrill. That’s why most people prefer to hear a man reading the news.

I think they are too, but I’ve seen a few good ones on the Sunday Supplement on Sky. That being said, I do find it odd that they don’t use their profile to promote the women’s game more by commentating on that instead. I’m not sure if they prefer commentating on the men’s game because it is at a higher level, and therefore more enjoyable to watch. Tbh, it’s not just football per se. I think there is definitely an agenda of feminisation that is being pushed in universities, the work place, and especially in courts of law these days. Fiona Bruce on Question Time (though so far she’s been surprisingly quite good), and more female pundits in podcasts like ‘Football Weekly’, ‘The Game’, and the BBC’s ‘Football Daily’. Watching these guys sound like feminists was hilarious as I’m sure they’ve all probably made sexist jokes in team dressing rooms over their careers lol 😆 At the end of the day, all I care about is the best person for any job getting it. Not as an act of affirmative action, tokenism, or patronage. I just want the best qualified person- male or female. Period.

When Rio Ferdinand critiques as teams defending or Shearer criticizes an attack, we can acknowledge his criticism as we know in his day we could do it but to hear it from a woman like Alex Scott who couldn’t play men’s Sunday league never mind do better than an premier league defender in a certain situation is hard to listen to. I’ve no problem with women as pundits but stick to your own game, women’s football as it ain’t the same as mens the pace and skill are completely different just don’t force yourself on to our TVs

What i love about seeing female pundits on the tv, is knowing that they have a great man behind them thats allowed them a night off from doing the dishes and cleaning the house. Its fantastic.

Alex Scott is very knowledgable and knows what she's on about which is correct a pundit needs to know what they're talking about, plus she's nice to look at! Don't see any problems.

Lots of male pundits are their thanks to their careers, not the fact they can articulate their analysis well. Paul Ince is a great example. Alex Scott understands the game extremely well are articulates her understanding again extremely well.
