AWFUL INTERVIEW. SAS don't give Dyson any push back on problems affecting our Black communities like #1, Illegal migrants flooding Black communities and given billions of tax paying dollars. #2, the poor results of public school education for Black students. Why not school choice. #3, rampant crime in Black communities and the reason for many stores to leave Black communities. SAS drop the ball, he allow con artist Dyson to avoid a lot of Black issues.

Dyson should stick to simply philosophizing and quit the "performative Blackness" he constantly engages in, and his misrepresentation of the work of Black Baptist women, who in the late18th and early 20th centuries, worked to propagate an attitude/mindset among Black people, that met the challenges that Black people have always faced in this country. It seems even his accomplishments, in his chosen profession, is not enough for him. He seem to need even more validation, or missed his true calling, as an entertainer - rapper especially. He may be singly responsible for the relatively recent inexplicable practice by many Black intellectuals and activists - some everyday people also, who charges any Black person, who publicly criticizes some things Black people do, that are self-destructive and self-defeating to themselves and to our communities, with practicing "respectability politics - seeing ourselves and things in general, through other people's eyes - otherwise called by them "the White gaze"; and also of blaming the victim. He is unquestionably a talented and gifted individual, but it gets lost in what from my perspective is, intellectual dishonesty. He in fact is worried about how certain things we do look, in other people's eyes. He says "for us to refer to the high rate of crime - (especially violence among us) as Black on Black crime, "makes us look pathological". He and those it seems, he may have directly influenced, are the only people who say that, at least publicly. Him saying this was the first I have heard that, and ironically, I believe it was during a debate with S.A.S., where he said this. It was a Town Hall discussion of violence, that took place in Chicago some years ago. I've since seen him say it a couple of other times. It seems to have become his spiel. Can you imagine a White person saying this in public? No doubt in discussions among sociologist, psychologist, and such, this is discussed, but this is likely in academic venues that likely are closed to public viewing. He acts as if a perception of the reality of the rate of violence and the nature of the violent acts we commit against each other, is worse for who - other people, than the reality of it, is worse than to ourselves? Give me a break! Someone rescue me if I'm wrong, to barrow a phrase from Maulana Karenga?

@@glenngriggs6445 The statistics reported by the LA TIMES were opposite of what you just said. Because of initiatives to catapult certain minorities in to better schools, over 17% of Asians were rejected by their first school of choice who otherwise would have made it in to those schools had entry been strictly merit based and not influenced by racial “quotas.” Whites were only minorly affected (maybe it was like 4% ish), but that’s not a surprise because whites don’t do well either. Whites only appear to do well when you bundle Jews in to the “white” category. To be frank, as I see it, Jews and Asians out perform everyone, and focusing on things like DEI will not help the groups that are already behind. The Asians and Jews will just make even more private schools so they can focus on the things they think matter and continue to outpace everyone else.

Be inspired by me and try to follow in my footsteps”.. I assume Dyson’s heart is in the right place.. but I always wonder, “if marginalized communities pull even and start really winning at the same rate as others……….. what would his job be then? Does he still profit in that case? Is he still invited on TV? And if not, then what’s his real goal?” Maybe a bit cynical.. but I tend to be a “follow the money” type of guy..

Dyson near the end, spoke about athletes needing to show solidarity and being representative of the people they are from, yet I have yet to hear anyone in Black media - sports media especially, Black woke activists and intellectuals, and the general Black media, ask why did Kaepernick's initial protest only involve he and possibly one other athlete? This is only one of many obvious questions, it seems to me, should have been raised by anyone. Why was it mainly Kaepernick who participated in this, otherwise for the choice of the venue to stage it, and the manner in which it was done, was a worthy idea? Did he ask his fellow teammates, to get their opinion and cooperation on his idea? Again, where is the media in asking these question? We know he asked a White veteran of the military, who was a follow team or league member, for his opinion on the exact nature of his protest, so why no talk of a conversation, with his teammates, as a whole, who would obviously be impacted by his actions? In fact, a little forethought would have shown how wide the negative impact would be, beyond just him and the team. This is the same absence of forethought, that would have shown what the obvious response from the Right would be, to the slogan Black Lives Matter, chosen to protest the unjust killing of Black people, especially by police officers. Where can this discussion been found? Where is the evidence that most Black people are in alignment with Black woke intellectuals and activists? Why is Emmitt Smith's son, transferring out of his initial choice of college an anomaly, after all these years? It is bad enough that the Far-Right, which today seems 'to be most of the Right, in todays political happenings, and Trump as an individual, has been gas lighting the public, but for Black people who speak publicly, as if they represent all or most Black people, to do the same, is inexplicable, to say the least.

Honestly.. there’s too much energy focused on other people.. each person, individually needs to challenge themselves to be better than yesterday.. and then better than that day and so on.. someone is always going to have an advantage that you don’t have (bigger, faster, stronger, prettier, smarter, more money, more talent, more connections, better personality).. that’s in ANYTHING.. I don’t care who you are.. but that doesn’t have to stop your progress.. and if we stop to argue with people trying to hold us back, we’re wasting time that we can use to get better.. those people are just distractions.. There’s a Japanese principle called “kaizen” (I’m sure people have heard of).. the basic idea is just get 1% better every day.. when we improve on our best (without comparison to others), then we’ll actually end up ahead.. who cares what someone else has.. as long as we focus on getting better ourselves, then we’ll get where we want to go.. sounds cliche, but gotta keep our eyes on the prize and keep moving in that direction (whatever that means to us, individually).. there are no literal walls around success.. SAS is making $10M+ a year.. and he didn’t get there by giving af about what someone else was doing.. he did it by focusing on being the best..

Considering African Americans have been legislated against as a whole, popular Confederate ideology like individualism over collectivism is not only counterproductive but ensures injustices continue. It is also antithetical to American societal history. “Keeping your head down” is why two generations let racism rebound and persist to levels not seen in decades. Do you want to travel fast or do you want to travel far.

SAS shares about the racial obstacles he had to overcome. Just because he making his now salary, perhaps he would have been making 3x as much without the discrimination. No one got anything by themselves. That's a myth and a lie. Everyone who has achieved any kind of success did so with assistance of others or of something. A POC or women has to be aware of the "others" especially if the others either don't want you where they are or is unsure of wanting you in their space. Affirmative action wouldn't he necessary if everyone had the same opportunity and possible outcome. Affirmative action helps break down those walls or helps someone scale those walls that prevents success. These walls real; they're not make believe or a figment of their imagination. American History was built on keeping those walls up by implementing policies and laws and if that didn't work, just plain old bigotry; usually jail, a noose, or a gun.

I do appreciate what you’re saying.. but imho, those are issues of yesteryear.. like stories from my parents and prior had real roadblocks (they still did their thing, however).. in the same way that the Right would be best served to acknowledge history before making their point.. I think we can acknowledge how far society has come before making ours.. To me, in the present, I think there’s more of a climate of unfairness than one of injustice.. and there’s nothing that can be done to make everything “fair”.. the only fairness in the world is having a dream/vision/goal and getting out of it what you put into it (again, imho).. not saying it won’t be challenging or that someone won’t try to get in your way.. but those conditions apply to everyone in some way.. I’m of the belief that in 2024, if someone says “I can and I will.”, then the only thing that will stop them is them choosing to stop or switching up on their resolve.. I think the real privilege in “majority privilege” is in being able to look at oneself as an individual.. and affect life from the inside out.. but that’s a privilege everyone can take advantage of by choosing to.. as soon as it becomes “but they.. ,” then that’s a miscalculation or non-acceptance of God-given power of free will.. and imho, to accept that is to accept full “American-ness”.. to reject it, is to reject the same.. and while I do believe there are 2 sides to every coin (i.e. other people have work to do on themselves/their souls as well).. I think the side we, as people, should concern ourselves with is the side we can control.. I’m not even saying “just let everything slide”.. but if there isn’t a concrete goal and action plan, then who cares.. I think inspiration is more powerful than outrage (again, in 2024).. But, I’m willing to be wrong.. and I’m open to hearing your ideas..

@lorrainecooper889 .. I promise I’m not disagreeing with you on the history of this country.. but perception (and our ability to shift it) is SO powerful.. it’s really the only power we have.. when we see obstacles or focus on them, then they’re there.. when we refuse to see them, they become far less to deal with.. the trick is to focus on the goal.. I’m not saying anyone makes it by themselves.. but we don’t stand a chance if we don’t, individually, believe we can get there.. belief in oneself or self-efficacy is the only way to fight through the obstacles and challenges.. and to me, it’s more important to build that FIRST.. but when we start off by listing all the reasons it “probably won’t happen” or “yea, but that’s gonna be in my way”, then we can’t approach our goals with the tenacity and enthusiasm that we’ll need.. and that’s not a color or gender or orientation thing - that’s a human thing.. true, our challenges will be different than the other 8 Billion people on the planet.. but no one is going to waltz to their true dream.. they’re going to overcome challenges to get there.. All I’m saying is that if the perceptions and priorities change, more doors open.. they may not be the same doors that someone else can or will walk through.. but your vision and goals are uniquely yours.. I think owning that is very important.. imho, of course..

@@gbmbg114 I appreciate this thoughtful discussion. I totally hear what you saying and I don't discount the individual aspect of success. But what cannot be discounted are doors that have been closed. Opportunities that have been denied. Outcomes that have been predetermined. "Hand-outs" is the American way. From business subsidies and tax breaks to government contracts to social networking. It's not a coincidence most positions of power are still held by still a "WASP" (straight) male. Suburbs came about because of programs/assistance to let one kind participate and policies/laws to keep others out. Education and home ownership is a hand-up to achieving success and both of those were denied to POC and women from the beginning of America. Discrimination is not an excuse to not try to succeed. My father always told us that "America" see us as "ill-equipped, dumb, secondary, etc." but to not let it stop you from pursuing your dreams or goals. Be aware that attitudes and establishments like that are there but don't be afraid of them. (unless they come hooded and with torches) I'm not phased by the N-word or a noose being tossed on my desk. I'm not but that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't be offended by it. "Opportunity and outcome" programs are necessary until industries become more diverse and the decision makers also become more diverse. The attempt by some leaders to "whitewash" history is planned and not by accident. Our opposition to it has to be just as planned. No matter what race, creed, color, gender, etc., no one has a right to deny opportunities from you. And when they try, call them out on it.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. We must get out of these worldly things and learn how to please our God. These our my brothers, but they have no understanding or knowledge. These 2 are considered to be our honorable or men of stature, yet they don't understand that what has happened to us as a nation is because of our God and our disobedience to him.
