am belong to an Igorot tribe of the Philippines ....and i could really say that we have a great cultural resemblance with the Taiwanese Indigenous people, the way they dress there textiles, the arts is almost the same ...
As a non Philippine-language speaker, I thought that the Paiwan language sounded most like the languages I heard in the Philippines.... I'm not sure why that language stood out to me. Does it appear that way to you as well?
Hi Mahya I am Igorot as well.....the reason our culture is similar is because we are all part of the Austronesian ethnolinguistic culture....according to the most recent research Austronesian peoples around the world first came through Taiwan and spread out ....for example the Mowri people of New Zealand trace their roots from Taiwan and the Hawaiian people who call themselves the Kanakana Moili (sounds like Kankana-ey doesn't it) trace their ancestory from the Mowri.....our people the Igorots of the Cordillera apparently also came from the people of Taiwan.....who knows they might come out with new research that it was the other way around that they came from us. All I know is that we are definitely related to them and must have moved to our set of mountains thousands of years ago as did the other Polynesians and over time our cultures changed over time depending on interactions between other peoples and through resources and the land...the one thing thats maintained is the connections through the austronesian languages and our DNA.
I think.. if Taiwan wanna be Independent Country then they must be change their language to the native Language Taiwan, and don't ever use Mandarin Language anymore.. then Chinese and other countries will see that Taiwan not longer part of Chinese...
14.30 of this video revealed something amazing had to replay! This is how the motuans on the coast of Papua traditional singing sounds like. It’s a very sacred way of singing when you mix this sound with the beating of the kundu leather drum of Melanesia your tears will flow because you can hear your ancestors. So now I know. Yes the coastal tribes of Papua are mixed Austronesian Polynesian people, same ancestry. Tribal tattoos, Pottery, language can feel a connection. We always knew our ancestors were mix of asian somewhere now Taiwan has just made sense of it.. Especially at 14.30. Thank you . Absolutely beautiful Taiwan. Through that distinct singing I now know where my asian ancestors came from settling the coasts of Papua. My grandmother is also mixed Malaysian and Cook island of descendant of Rarotonga from coast of Papua so this one full circle. My Respect to beautiful Taiwan rich with culture and beautiful people . 🙏Amazing !
Im from Borneo...ive watched some of these indigenous people of Taiwan and have a similarity in words and culture to my culture..even surprisingly the physical and facial features are of similarities tht include skin color..is it possible tht we share the same ancestors.. interesting 😊👍
There should be a grand meeting of all Indigenous Austronesian and Polynesian peoples in Taiwan where we can celebrate our similar connections together and respect our differences.... especially our similar designs in traditional boats!!!
There's a bi-annual festival know as FestPAC that's kindof like that. It's a Pacific Arts Festival that takes place on a different island each time it is held. I noticed that a group representing Taiwan attended this years festival in Hawaii.
I am Malay from Malaysia 🇲🇾. I love and respect my brothers and sisters from all the Austronesian - Polynesian islands. My wish is to visit Taiwan and pay respect to the source of our great Nation.
I think their costumes is the same but the cultures are different from Dayak. Dayak is a tribe that lives in the edge of rivers just like some tribes of China in Yunnan. most of Austronesia live in the mountain.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-26koVrE0ZiM.html no its totaly different, the link that i post here is thedayak ancestors is really far away from formosa taiwan. dayak is more oriental and the faces are chinese. dayak are closer to chinese miao and chinese li.
I dont think so they are very similar to our native people from the northen part of the Philippines like Igorot and Ivatan because they are close to Taiwan. Even their culture are similar.
@Cah Ngampus no we came from same ancestors bcuz our dayak rituals are the same just a lil bit different, our lifestyles, our languages.each dayaks have similarities.Maybe theres different due to long term separations
Native taiwanese culture are like the same to igorot culture in the northern mountains of the Philippines their chanting and dances even their instruments
True..ive witnessed it as well..i visited Hualien northern part of taiwan and so shocked the aborigines their practice traditions very similar to ours igorots..
The culture of the mountain tribes of the Philippines resembles those of the Taiwan indigenous people. The costumes, dances, musical instruments, weaving are indistinguishable from the northern Philippine tribes. We are descended from these Taiwanese austronesian group after all.
Taiwan Aborogine similiar mentawai and nias in Indonesia defferent with Java, Sunda, Sumatera and native borneo ( Austroasiatic ) similiar Mainland Asian . I think Indonesiand is different because there is another mixture that is common in Southeast and North East Asian
@Mandy M excuse him I'm maori also he's been brain washed to hate samoans like most maori are in NZ and vice versa he's blinded by that he can't see what's right in front of him
@BrownyDownySydrome I've looked into that man them too are of Mongoloid origins bro be smart man and look at the path humans took out of africa it all makes sense.. we came from the east (asia)not west (americas) our language and culture is eastern bro
The way they dress they are our great great ancestors. I am a native mindanawan Southern Mindanao Philippines Lumad culture (Highlanders of the South) and their costume are the same with us.
Jesus fucking christ... So much misinformation here... Native amerians branched from Northern asians(siberians, inuits) Southern east asian. IE. Malay, polynesians. are different but similiar. think of it as Arabs, and europeans.
@@SinicizedTurk here we go again glorify chinese history... even though austronesian people aren't mongoloid and white skin.. we should claim our ancestral land in south china.. we're not decendant of mongol people..
The indigenous people of Taiwan and nagas of northeast India has a lot of common in culture . looking at their cultural activities there is no deference with the nagas.even the language resembles with the nagas .may be our ancestors are same .l wish the indigenous peoples of Taiwan to visit Nagaland love from Nagaland
The studies seem to negate any relationship BUT the similarities, even with tribesmen from Philippines, cannot be unseen! I hope there's a further studies to this topic.
Very similar culture to Northern Philippines and Native (non muslim) Tribes in Mindanao. Their clothing, custom, physical appearances, music and language ❤️ Just wow
Wow! The houses look like Wharenui and they play nose flutes! Interesting one tribe is called kanakanavu... I feel like saying "Bulla Kanaka!" (Fijian) Hello friend
Their culture, their face are so similar to the ethnic group here in the Philippines called "Igorot" live in mountain province/bagiuo.Its so clear to migration
I'm an igorot and we have a lot in common with the atayal tribe especially they are mostly in the mountains and they also practice head hunting before.....nice documentation....matagu tagu taku ad nam in hi maknongan di manalimun e ditaku kankanayun iibah
The similarities between aborigines worldwide are mind blowing. I just don't understand why there are more similarities between aboriginal in Taiwan and North America than the aboriginal Taiwanese and chinese.
@Ateng Eryyanto that's true for the half breed ppl in the lowlands only ,not us ppl from the mountains, some of them insisting they are not austronesian stocks though it's very very obvious on their face, most Filipinos prentends or claims to have Spanish heritage on their blood ,but not, only their barrowed Spanish surnames.I tell you Philippines is not a land of the mestizo like Mexico about 85percent (most ppl in the latin America are of Eroupean descendants pure and half particularly Spanish ) of their populations, while in the Philippines it's only 5 percent(or declined) Chinese is about 15percent.
@Ateng Eryyanto because of the heavy influence of the Western people to us, we almost forgot our own identity. Even though we are obviously Austronesians.
I see so many similarities to people of Polynesia. Even the way they look, the way they wear things, tattoo, bunun the way the sing ,the pole carving , the garland wearing, just wow!
@@toamalamascanlan7227 And where do Samoans come from Uso? Asia bro. I'm Samoan too we come from these people we count the same as them and they say Tama and Tina or Ina for Father and Mother.
@@ClayfordC The Nose flute and that xylophone made of wood is classic in the Philippines, especially that wooden xylophone you can hear this instrument personally when the people using it visit houses and neighborhoods and sing for them in Christmas. It's one of our country's shared native tradition that was incorporated by the Catholic faith in Philippines. In my provinces Bisaya language we simply refer to as Daygon or Manaygon.
I noticed Taiwanese aboriginal singing and dancing to be similar to Native Americans. Also some of the buildings of Taiwan aboriginals resemble certain ones of Native Americans. Especially those of the Pacific Northwest- the wood totem poles and homes are very similar!
Interestingly these people look like the people of Nagaland in Northeastern part of India. Culturally the people of Nagaland look similar to these Austronesians but linguistically they are Sino-Tibetan.
Like some tribes old saying " Torang semua basudara " we all related.. this are the tribes of; - Minahasan tribes (northern sulawesi/indonesia) - north to southern filipino tribes - Taiwanese tribes - Dayak tribes (from all greater Borneo indonesia/malaysia) - fijian/hawaiiana tribes - that relates also to the first settlers of northern and sourhern tribes of japan - the koreans this happen when the migration flow of central asian people (mongolian lands) to the more warmer climate lands back in 6000 - 8000 BCE and possibly to the great america's indian tribes.
The tribes of taiwan has a lot more similar with the tribes of the philippines from the culture, musical intruments and rituals and festivals and even in the costumes or tribal dress...
@@stephencurry7775 their practice and beliefs traditions culture is very similar with that of ours Igorots. I personally once visited Hualien since its a very famous tourist area in Taiwan i was shocked to know their traditions and native clothings are same with igorots..I had a talked with with one of the tourist guide and she said their bloodlines are scattered all over southeast asia..
The Nagas and Mizos of northeast India, the indigenous peoples of yunnan China , Igorots of Philippines, etc all have similar cultures and way of lifestyles with Taiwan indigenous peoples
whoah! we have the same culture as the Ayatal tribe too... i believe the Paiwan people are the people now of the southern part of the Philippines because of their way of dressing and basing also from their culture which is so similar to the people in the southern part of the Philippines..
for those who say these tribes do not look like yours...that's because over time the line got mixed with Japanese or Chinese so physically most young people do not look like you perhaps...but the elderly you can see the resemblance...
Nearly exactly the same as Philippine people, especially the traditions and customs of all the indigenously-cultural Philippine tribes, like the proud Igorot peoples (ifugao, kalinga, bontok, kankanaey, ibaloi, itneg, isnag tribes), the Lumad peoples (tboli, bagobo, manuvu, kalagan, blaan, higaonon, mandaya, mamanwa, subanon, matigsalug, tagabawa, tagakaolo, talaandig, teduray, and mansaka tribes), Mangyan group (hanunuo, buhid, alangan, iraya, tadyawan, taubuid tribes), and the Palawan groups (palawano, taaw't bato, tagbanwa tribes), and suludnon of panay, among many others from our 180+ ethnic groups. they are all scattered around the islands, and maintained the old ways instead of christianizing or islamizing. these traditions also were historically followed by the major ethnolinguistic groups of the Philippines like the now christianized Tagalog, Visayan, Ilocano, Bicolano, and among the now muslim groups (maguindanao, maranao, tausug, kaagan, sangil, badjao, iranun etc tribes). Don't let the Spanish names fool you, the traditions are still maintained. Historically the archipelago was mired in pangayaw/mangayaw=raiding and headhunting traditions that only stopped under the Americans in the early 20th century, and traditions of Pag-aanito (worship of anito=spirits) are still followed behind christianity or islam. The Taiwanese tribes even play the kubing/kuribaw/kolibaw, which is one of our beloved traditional instruments (jews harp in english). They also play the pestle/lusung (the name from where the island of luzon gets its name) in a rhythmic way just like the cordilleran igorot tribes do today. The Yami/Tao people are directly related to the Ivatan people of the far northern batanes islands too, linguistically and by tradition and blood. They even use the rice bale as offerings as all indigenously cultural Philippine peoples here do. Hope our Taiwanese aboriginal brothers realize their closest relatives are just south of them.
we have similarity in language with the puyuma tribe of taiwan as the narrator mentioned the mangayaw and basibas..mangayaw means hunting enemies from other tribes and basibas is a ritual done in celebration for the transition from childhood to bcoming a matured one..frm majucayong tribe of the igorot in northern philippine here
Wow that music instrument that is played in mouth looks like karinding and the one that is played by hitting it looks like calung from my tribe, sundanese
I'm so happy to see the comments, people taking note of similarities, really evidence that roots date to a common people that spawned many great, distant migrations. It's touching. Wish they were only peaceful stories, but alas, that is not to be.
I’m sure they are related to my ethics group .im jarai tribe in central highland in Vietnam sending my respects to my brothers and sisters of Taiwan indigenous peoples
I belong to konyak (wancho) naga from NE india Nagaland Once we were headhunter and do tattoo as a reward for headhunting, but we stopped after 1930 We were and we are warrior...
KAk disana ada orang tua yang telinga panjang? Kalau di tempat saya dayak kalimantan Ada, dari pakaian tarian alat musik dan patung sama seperti suku dipulau saya kalimantan yaitu dayak tribe.
I am from Nagaland North Eastern India and lately I have been watching lot of videos about the igrots and northern Philippines tribes and these Taiwanese tribes. We have so many things in common like the dances, the tune of the songs, agriculture and the festivals which are related to harvest and nature. Nagas also practised headhunting before Christianity arrived and also tattooed their skin. Also the traditional attire’s are very similar and the clothings worn by igrots and lothas of Nagaland has one exact same shawl. Only if somebody could invest for the studies of these tribal groups from theee 3 different countries coz for sure they might have been of the same group in the past!
Head hunting is not a proper human armony relationship with the stranger tribe or people, si maybe, the changing of this barbaric ritual led most change in the paste of many austronesian group, for example, why some Maori tribe of north Aotearoa, pushed by british, hunted and eated the last Moriori in Chatman island? Or the Iban of Borneo, they used to be head hunter for ther rituals, then becouse of missionaries (buddhist or cristian) they stop and changed this custom becoming rice farmer. So i thing that indigenous revivals should first thinking about the past rules if their "ancestors" becouse not all aspect is romantic, so we need courage to change ehat make enemy with other group, than we can face the government, the miners, etc. Maybe all our common true ancestors, from Iperborea, or in transantartica, requrire us this change of vision ti give another chance ti live in peace on this planet. ❤
I could say that the Igorot tribes of the Cordillera in the Philippines have many similarities in terms of cultural practices like their chanting, loom weaving and musical intruments to that of the Atayal tribe, we do use the jew harp as well, though tattoo is no longer a practice in this generation, our forefathers did.
Really Taiwan was belonging Austronesian not Chinese. They were tribes and spoke the indigenous languages. So Taiwan is independent nation that Han dynasty’s not influence. Taiwan like Viet Nam must have a right to find independent nation. We support their right.
Americans can relate to it not sympathize the way the Americans treated the American Indians and how and why the Indians branded the Americans the nickname "fork tongue"
The Puyuma tribe has the closest cultural resemblance to that of eastern Mt Province tribes and Ifugao. The practice of young single and married men sleeping and hanging out at the village plaza.
