Thanks for that detailed video on such an important subject. There is so much ignorance, even amongst trans people and allies, because the question is hard to ask without seeming unsupportive. Many well-intended people believe the strawman that is pictured to them, and of course they don't want that! But this is all a myth and a misunderstanding of what is really done, how and why. Ignorance turns people on the side of transphobia and it's harming all of us. Thanks for your work!

Thank you for your kind words and support. I agree that transphobia harms everybody. People need facts and a willingness to understand that we were taught as children was not accurate. When we know better, we can do better.

I disagree with some of the facts you have given. More surgeries than you report are happening to children (0-18). Girls at the age of 13 re having their breasts removed. Uteruses have been removed from 17 year old women. These are life changing decisions they may regret when older. Their mistakes are irreversible. Children placed on hormone replacement therapy are later placed on cross sex hormones. Cross sex hormones given to children for a prolonged period cause sterilization. Children placed on hormone blockers face serious future medical problems. Finally, I do not want to have insurance rates increase because the medical community wants to increase their pockets. By 2030 (only 6 years from now) sex reassignment surgery market will be worth 6.25 billion dollars. The medical/pharmaceutical industry is laughing and celebrating.

I can only assume and hope to that to protect children's health interests, we have implemented a procedure as follows: - the children have been educated on the vast spectrum of masculine and feminine and masculine gender presentation traits (like tomboys) and sexual attractions that are completely normal among biological men and women without implying the need to become transgender. - the children have they themselves reached out for transgender care and not been steered into it by educators or blanket programs covering an entire school -years of psychotherapy have been done with multiple doctors to confirm that the child is in fact transgender - The child is educated on all of the side effects of their selected transition care, even medications, including things like reduced bone density, permanent loss of fertility, sickness, and neurological damage. A sideshow with things like twitching muscles and wheelchairs is shown to both the child and the parent. - The parent, the child, and the doctors all sign off on a consent form acknowledging these side effects and the rest of what I've mentioned, with the decision that transgender care has still been deemed as the most beneficial for the child's health by all parties. This form is signed multiple times at different times over the years of therapy

Since this episode is about gender-affirming surgery in minors, 97% of which are done in cisgender boys per a recent study in Jama, I will respond to comments about that topic. Having said that, I answer questions like yours in my School for Engendering Inclusivity. Members get a chance to learn the facts about gender and transition. It is there in the school that I would be able to point out the parts of your statement that are true and accurate, and the parts that are not supported by research and data. I distinguish facts from anecdotes from misinformation.

Children cannot consent to a tattoo or joining the military or drinking/doing drugs, why is it that they can consent to a double mastectomy in some places as young as 15 ?
@ideoscopies

@@rotbot4u Children can consent to many medical interventions (with consent of parents/legal caregiver). Gender affirming medical care is just one of them. Tattoos, alcohol, etc are not.

Rubbish. People who are depressed, autistic, grieving and confused are having surgery done with no counselling done. Different professionals who the child sees do not communicate, and this is horrendous. Transgender surgery is causing great harm to children and society.

Hmmm. Will we believe that professional who is speaking from the point of practical experience and knowledge, or some random commenter on the internet with no provided credentials? Hmmmmmmm.

Being transgender or non-binary is an identity, just as being autistic is a form of neurodiversity and being depressed is a health condition. These identities and conditions can coexist, but one does not cause the other. When discussing "children," typically defined as individuals under 18, it's important to note that consent laws for medical procedures vary by state. However, no state allows minors to consent to gender-affirming surgery without parental consent. In fact, most places require consent from all parents or guardians if there is more than one, which is more stringent than the requirements for many other types of surgeries on minors. I would be interested to hear exactly what you are referring to while protecting the patient's identity. Can you specify which state and confirm the age of the patient was under 18? Because, based on my experience and knowledge, such cases as you've described are not reflective of standard medical practice.

First, gender affirming surgery is not "causing great harm to children and society" or any "harm to children and society" at all. Secondly, do you think that just because someone who has depression, grief or autism should be denied the care that we need? Do you think that I should be denied surgery to treat my sleep apnea just because I have an autism spectrum disorder?

@@veroniquebellamy4741 No, I am saying that more needs to be done to help these people who may have psychiatric issue that will not be resolved by slicing off parts of their bodies.

please research AGP and the fetishistic side of crossdressing ( I work with a lot of people who are confused about being trans or crossdresser/cross sex fetishistst ) cross sex hormones cause atrophy and puberty blockers cause menopause - PLEASE be realistic about the permanent affect of that AND how much it will cause them more distress and worse quality of life
@ShannonPanszi-EngenderLove
@ShannonPanszi-EngenderLove 2 месяца назад
There is a significant difference between crossdressing and being transgender. Each individual's experience and needs are unique, and care is tailored to them with the involvement of multiple healthcare providers and voices to ensure the best possible care. Grouping all experiences together oversimplifies the complexity of gender identity and healthcare. Medicine is not a cookbook; it requires considering each case individually and recognizing that nothing in medicine is binary. There are always exceptions to every rule. As I mentioned, obtaining gender-affirming care involves multiple steps and is not a decision taken lightly, especially for minors. Additionally, this video does not address puberty blockers or hormones, so I will not comment on that topic here.

Autogynephilia (or "AGP") is pseudoscientific nonsense that has zero clinical basis.

@@ShannonPanszi-EngenderLove A clinic here in the UK, called the Tavistock Gender clinic, has been closed down, because of the way they were fast tracking children into taking puberty blockers and operations, without first given the children and their families counselling and psychiatric evaluations to ensure they are not depressed, delusional, Autistic, and many other conditions that affect people and make them disillusioned with their lives/in mental pain. I hold no faith in your feeble assurances. It is very obvious to any rational human being, that slicing off part of a child/teenagers body is NEVER the answer. We do not allow children to drink alcohol/vote etc, but give them the power to choose whether to have parts of their bodies cut off. It is my belief that you are deluded.

@@ShannonPanszi-EngenderLove minors often do not know the difference in their feelings- they will live their life as trans , do permanent changes to their bodies then later realize theyre just crossdressers and regret the changes - these people are confused AS ADULTS - let alone children - it is pure negligence and frankly a Pharma money grab to do this to children , I as a woman will not stand for this and will not stand for intact males in women's prisons especially , this is not considering the kids this is just drug peddling on the vulnerable when they actually need therapy - the cure for gender dysphoria is often going THROUGH puberty (I know because I had a mild case growing up )
