An outstanding original Ford Cortina Mk5 Carousel with only 33,164 miles from new.
EQUIPMENT
All steel welded integral construction, safety glass all round, laminated windscreen, louvered radiator grill, bright drip-rail, windshield and rear window inserts, anti-burst locks, bright bumpers, bodyside rubbing strip, black side window frames, perforated headlining, ‘hangdown’ centre console, two speed wipers with ‘flick’ wipe, electric screen wash. Dealer fitted options; Ford mud flaps, Ford accessory grille with built in Hella driving lamps, Smith quartz digital clock, CA7000 Deluxe remote control security system, radio cassette.
EXTERIOR
This beautiful special edition Carousel is one of the final incarnations of Ford’s iconic Cortina MkV, sometimes known as the Cortina 80 being the facelift version of the MKIV. This stunning example is finished in original Forest Green (code T1) over Crystal Green (code 61). The factory paint has a glorious deep uniform shine owing to the remarkably low miles covered and the truly cosseted ownership. All factory panels are straight with even gaps and free from corrosion, and the underside is structurally perfect having been protected from new with no repair work undertaken or required. Worthy of mention is a light scratch to the nearside front wing edge and a touched in scratch to the rear nearside wing as well as two miniscule dings to the roof. A handful of very light scratches on detailed inspection are expected on an unrestored example but serve as to highlight the vehicles fantastic original nature. Supplying dealer rear number plate and screen sticker remain as does the original registration mark etched glass all round. All trim sections are spotless including the Ford accessory grill with built in Hella driving lamps. A rare surviving classic Ford in outstanding preserved order.
INTERIOR
A factory fresh 1980’s Ford interior absolutely worthy of the term ‘time warp’ and a true delight to any ‘blue oval’ enthusiast. The immensely comfortable perfect Green Yorke (code W3) fabric seats are completely free from wear or damage commensurate of a car with such few miles covered. The spotless colour keyed carpets, matching door cards and perforated headlining firmly uphold the showroom fresh appeal. All switchgear and functions operate exactly as intended. The perfect dashboard has suffered no cracks or distortion and the steering wheel displays the cars low mileage credentials with veins still prominent. This truly exceptional interior is a real credit to the cars cherished past.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Ford’s time tested and trustworthy 1600 OHC unit with single variable venturi carburettor needs little introduction. With a power output of 73bhp, a top speed of 93mph and a 0-60 time of 13.0 seconds allow the car to match the pace of modern traffic with ease. The engine is whisper quiet and wonderfully smooth having benefitted from previous ownership by a retired mechanical engineer. The four speed all synchromesh manual gearbox feels light with a positive clutch action and relaxed motoring is effortless.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer Carr of Morley Ltd and first registered on 30 March 1982, this stunning Ford Cortina has had just two former keepers from new. A new car sales invoice made out to first keeper Mr Gordon Greene illustrates a purchase price of £4,191.31 with a part exchange allowance of £1,000 against his Mk2 Cortina 1600E! The previous keeper, retired mechanical engineer Mr Roger Hermitage, purchased the car in March 2013 and has enjoyed this low mileage cossetted example for shows and fair weather days out.
All Ford handbooks, service booklet and operating guides are held within the PVC folder and some previous MOT certificates and invoices validate the very low 33,164 miles from new. A collection of best in show trophies and rosettes highlight the appeal of this wonderfully original and unmolested example. A delight for the collector and enthusiast alike.

I ran one of these in the late 80’s, PRM44X. Charcoal and Silver livery, it had been wax oiled from new so no rust problems, after a while I fitted a Janspeed Exhaust and Luminition Ignition with a re- jetted Webber Carb and had the head ported and a high lift Cam, I never tired of driving it but it needed a 5 speed box. I sold it easily around 92 and it’s the only car I ever regret selling.

Always loved Cortinas especially the 4 and 5. Always remind me of car parks full of them at the coal mines and my dad used to service and maintain lots of them back in the 80's.

Love the way red socks liked the song on the radio and had to have an extended listen lol, nice Cortina as well, had a mark 4 in 82 that i mini cabbed in, it was a rust bucket despite being only four years old so the new owner should cherish this beauty.

The Carousel & Crusader were special edition run out models in-between the launch of the Sierra. The Crusader was more closely related to the Ghia & the Carousel was more related to the L with L spec interior, although it did get the fake wood instrument cluster & a Ghia steering wheel. Both the Crusader & Carousel got GL spec steel wheels.

A simply stunning late model Cortina, sure the top colour is crystal green and the seat trim was York fabric which was fitted to the 82 model year Chelsea fabric was fitted to the GL model Cortinas...it is great to see cars like this that were once everyday motors that have sadly disappeared, had a Cortina Mk4 between 83/85, good cars, but that is beautiful....would'nt say know myself.

Your video brought back so many good memories. I had a 1981 model in Graphite Grey and Strato Silver, which I bought in 1983 and had until 1994 (went to my ex-wife under our separation agreement ☹️). My favourite ever car. My 18 year old daughter just doesn’t get it when I say that if I could buy any car in the world it would be another one of these. Just showed her your video and apparently “it’s horrible”. Maybe one day!

Great car, in its day, and this one is outstanding in every way. But my Father bought a new one of these in 1981, an estate Mk V 1600 L, which failed its first Mot. Reason: 'Perforation of chassis rails due to corrosion'. At 3 years old!! It spent the rest of its short, earthly life being patched, welded, until we called 'enough' barely 10 years later. By then it had had new chassis rails, new floor (pass. side) and new inner wing on pass side also. On a quiet night, you could hear it rust.

Are all your classic cars UNDERSEALED properly to ensure they don't rust in 3 or 4 years if used as an everyday car. Will have to keep a look out for a Cortina 4 or 5 or Cav 1 IF you do?

The 1.6's aged better than the more expensive ones because of the black window frames instead of the stainless steel ones
