A magnificent Mk2 Ford Granada with just two owners and 36,144 miles from new.
EQUIPMENT
Full width bumper pads with bright insert, front overriders, bodyside protective moulding with bright insert, bright exhaust trim, map pockets, facia mounted Ghia badge, quartz clock, oil pressure gauge, front and rear cigar lighter, tachometer, ammeter, trinket tray, wood grain instrument panel and door cappings, tilt/slide steel sunroof, tinted glass, front electric windows, central locking system, power steering, Ford push button MW/LW radio cassette, boot lamp, optional rear electric windows, headlamp wash and dealer fitted tow bar and driving lamps.
EXTERIOR
The exterior of this Mk2 Granada is impeccable in every respect. Finished in Diamond White it has a deep, gloss shine which is amazing and an absolute pleasure to polish. The colour code and description sticker is still present in the spotless carpeted boot. The Tobacco vinyl roof is unmarked. Supplying Ford Dealer Stonehaven Motors number plates are still fitted. No marks, dings, blemishes or imperfections can be found except one undulation on the passenger wing. It has no stone chips. All the trim is perfect, window rubbers are black and all decals are correct and present including the Ghia badges. The bronze tinted glass is mark free but two microscopic chips can just be seen on the front screen. The Zibart rust preventative plug holes carried out when new can be seen in all the doors and sills but one rubber plug is missing on the driver's sill. The engine bay is clean and original but not detailed. A truly exemplary and unique example.
INTERIOR
The interior of this Granada Ghia is outstanding and as new. The twin reclining front seats are covered in the luxurious Crushed Velour/Verona Tan fabric topped with fabric covered head restraints all with no damage. The twin bucket style rear seats and colour keyed shag pile carpet is perfect. All the headlining is tight and clean, all the gauges including the quartz clock operate as does the three speed heater fan. The seat base fabric is a little slack. The boot area including carpet and spare wheel are as new. This car really is a beautiful, unspoilt place to be and exactly how Ford intended.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 2.8 litre V6 Cologne engine is a real pleasure. Quiet, smooth and effortless producing 135bhp at 5200rpm this is a true Ford treasure. Electronic breakerless ignition ensures crisp performance and reliability combined with easy maintenance and low running costs. Two treasured owners have ensured this low mileage unit is factory correct. The standard automatic transmission with oil cooling is wonderful.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This Granada it fitted with the factory correct and immaculate 14" alloy road wheels with 185/80 R14 branded tyres all with excellent tread. The hydraulic dual line vacuum servo-assisted self-adjusting brakes with ventilated front discs are surefooted and offer a brilliant progressive feel.
HISTORY FILE
Purchased new by Mr Alexander Farquhar on the 1st August 1979 from Ford Dealer Stonehaven Motors he owned the car for 29 years keeping it garaged, treasured and used sparingly. Acquired by the second owner Mr Dean Hollywell five years ago after a determined search to find the best, most original and low mileage Ford Granada money could buy. Now being offered for sale for a lucky new owner to fully appreciate a rare piece of Ford motoring history.
The Ford Granada Owner's manual is present along with the Ford Audio Booklet. The correct Ford Granada sales brochure supplied when new is also included. Every tax disc from 1980 and numerous old MOT certificates and invoices. All keys are present on Ford key fob and fit all doors, boot and ignition. The vehicle is HPI clear.

Used to work as Ford Mechanic and these motors are just the best, ok the weak points in my opinion are the door trims, at least on the series 2, they fall apart, but what can you expect I suppose nothings perfect. The thing I liked about these was the actual build quality of the frame, they rarely had bad rust, the main points for rust are back drain holes, tip of bonnet, back of inner sills - easy to fix there's a guy sells pattern panels, and the wings rot as well. Compared to the MK3 they are just much better and not just from a nostalgic point of view, they are a bit heavier on fuel but much more rust resistant, more solid chassis and much better to look at. The MK3 was a total rust trap, the arches would turn to dust in a few years as well as the bottoms of doors, sills etc. and that big hatchback shape was like a wobbly jelly regarding stiffness and it looked crap. The only Mk3 I might consider would be a scorpio saloon but they are very rare.

I had one of these i bought it in 1988 a 1979 2.8 ghia in oyster gold with brown vinyl roof, i was working as a car refinisher then so i totally restored it inside and out , looked like new.had that car for 8 years very reliable too, i loved that motor only let it go after i changed job for a sales job so not very economical but regret it now a silly thing to do .and yes best ford ever made

Luckily mine was built in Germany and was really well put together, no loose panels coming loose and other trim coming apart just a solid motor . Shame the British models suffered with problems mainly down to bolshy shop stewards always calling strike action in the 70's so quality suffered and i know this as worked at a Ford dealership then so saw first hand how the british models were built...pity as we always knew how to build great cars

Thanks for a brilliant post of a fantastic car. Brought back memories of my 79 Ghia which I bought second hand and had for @ 8 years. I then had an 84 estate Ghia. Ok I suppose but the quality of the internal fittings had gone right down and the auxiliary warning system and leccy windows very troublesome. The difference between being first worm driven changed to cable being VERY apparent.

I bought a '79 2.8 Ghia (FPU 606T) that looked exactly like this one both outside and in (although mine had factory air con) as my first car at 18 yrs old (in 1984). I then got a 2.8 Injection (VRK 282X - red with pearlescent white TRX alloys and grey Recaro seats). Always loved the look of the Mk2 / Mk2 facelift Granadas...

I spotted the rust bubble too. That said, it's still a nice basis for full restoration. The seats are slightly more saggy than I'd expect to see given the mileage. Still a bit of an eye catcher though. I always liked the brown vinyl roof. It seemed just a bit nicer than the black option. Back in the day there was a healthy waiting list for a new Grandad.

Me again! Had one of these before the Metro Vanden plas.. Lovely to see one in such good condition! I used to love the spacious and luxurious interior. The one I owned was the 2.8 Ghia in white but with the light blue interior. It seemed so limousine like and posh I suppose. Engine seemed so smooth as I remember (kind of). Probably thirsty too, hence the move to a Metro.. ha..ha.. Interesting car though 😉

Good for it's age but I wasn't very keen on it, I had the Granada 3 litre Ghia. It was a lovely metallic green paintwork and black vinyl roof with tilt and slide sunroof. I got it brand new and was £4,500.00p. In it's day it was a beautiful car. Like a mug and against advice from friends, I traded it in for a Cadilac Eldorado 8.2 litre engine, LHD. I still have nightmares searching for that car but i never find it. Although i always buy a new car now, none can hold a candle to the Granada. It was quite a big car but it held the road, even cornering at fairly high speed. How I would love to find one that's been in storage since late 70's and is in mint condition, I would never be able to afford such a car, but would love to see one, nostalgia.
