@@naphouse1902 omm bro your hating straight up he might Google some shit but overall he knows about cars you can tell..well I can tell ..to much jealousy in this world that's a female trait
I hope you get through it brother. Please keep yourself open to talking with others. Everyone is different, but find someway to talk yourself through your issues.
There is a build on a 4.8 l that hot rod did way back in the day now probably 10 11 years. They took a 4.8 and gapped the stock rings and dingle ball honed the cylinders. They thought they had a 5.3 until they popped the heads off and found FLAT TOP PISTONS . They already had the cheapest 400-500 dollar twin turbo set they could find on eBay. On the dyno the final number was like 1645 HP and around 800 lb ft . The impressive thing was they proceeded to put 78 more full onion pulls on this thing before it crapped a rod out 😳
OMG... Hat's off for the various "ebay turbos"... Richard Holdener shows how easy it is to do this. Front mount or even rear mounts! Rear mounts make the same power the boost comes in a few hundred rpm's later due to the tubing lengths.
This makes me feel better about my cammed L83 5.3 😂 the 6.2 guys think their trucks are superior, but you can definitely make something out of the 5.3 they don’t get enough credit, and are always underestimated, element of surprise !👌🏽😎
Wish they would have put a 4.8L in a 2015 Colorado. They would have sold so many of them, even compared to a camaro. But then again the Colorado has a mandatory 95mph top speed from factory.
i have a LQ9 6.0 AWD 02 escalade truck, and I know what you mean about those other trucks and long body pickups boasting their 6.2, I actually smoked one coming home and he nearly swerved off the off ramp trying to catch me lol, ya my 6.0 is "slightly" modded for "safety reasons" lmao
EXTREMELY common as well, Chevy Express vans, and Silverados/Sierras fill the junkyards all day and usually still have a good engine, hard to kill it. Mainly because the rev limiter is set to 5600 RPM and the actual redline of the engine is 7700 so you literally can’t wear it out. It’s normally the transmission that dies before anything else in those trucks
I har this but in most cases these trannies die because the filter and fluid wasn't serviced at 36xxx on a regular. Most people wait till fluid is dark but don't read the manuals! To much power and abuse is a different story
The really cool thing about the 4.8 and 5.3 is they are EVERYWHERE!!!!! . I bet you could be running around in a school yard playing some catch with the son and trip over the exposed 4 inches of one of the heads poking out the dirt🤣😂. I literally had to dig two out of some guys yard once so we could dig footings for a deck .
One of my favorite series on the 4.8/5.3 was by Richard Holdener....called the big bang series. Where he straps several stock, and lightly modded 4.8/5.3/6.0 truck engines to a Dyno, and sees how much boost they can take before they go boom. Really a crazy series to watch.
Lol I always had the idea of doing what you’re doing, I tell people all the time that ik more about cars than anybody really should without being a mechanic. Lol props to you for actually using it to prosper, congrats brother
Legit felt the same over the last few years, I'm a backyard mechanic but body shop autobody tech 😅 I can walk people thru a full repair without seeing the car 😅
what are simple (not to compete in race but to cruise n slide) mods I can do to a 12’ 4.8 silverado mine don’t even burnout gotta take fuse out 😢😂 I heard changing gears to 4.11 makes huge difference in pulls off a stop ? and will burn out easy ? but I’ve also heard it’s not the best bang for buck n to just put air intake or port throttle body (truck is completely stock) I just need it to slide n be quicker any suggestions ?
@@tyleroutingdyke849 fellow autobody brother whats up! I got a good one next week welding up the front of a new accord, got to put a dash in her too shes hit hard. Looks like it run over a pole.
@@j.e.t.lifetothenextlife200 obviously you want flowmasters then a *programmer* then a cold air intake those three things will get your ass kicked and or thrown in jail real quick.
I'm greatful for the say that your videos came in my recommendations, instantly subscribed and liked to every video. Respect to you brother for your knowledge in the auto culture
My 4.8 06 1500 sierra has 320,000 miles the only thing I had to replace was the water pump and tires and also the battery ofc but that’s it, very reliable engine
Facts. A prime example of this is limpy , cash days, and other videos like flashlight shoot out, dig or die where real street racing happens from a dig. If you watch that kind of racing you have scene KCmax in the black firebird. Dude was stomping people with his big block hemi but due to money, weight, and how much the street can take he went to a 5.3l and stomped everybody many times in many races with that motor.
Centrifugal superchargers on these engines are also a really cool combo. A better fuel system and a D1SC Procharger is a pretty killer combo. Even a basic aftermarket cam wakes them up A LOT.
I couldn’t agree more!! You can pull some serious hp from an LS motor, we all know the coyote motor is a nasty beast but at the end of the day parts are cheaper and easier to come by , the sky’s the limit with an LS, that’s why so many do an LS swap in just about anything.
If the sky's the limit, the twin cam fords are beyond the limit. 5.4L has the Standing mile world record 300.4 mph Snot Rocket Coyote won overall Sick Week, Tx2k24, Import vs Domestic. 4.6 4V has been 5.88 at 256mph No LSs anywhere near these
It's not going to live too long at 700+ RWHP on the stock internals. The crankshafts, and rods are all cast IIRC, and tend to be reliable up to around 550 RWHP. Once you get above 650 RWHP , then the stock internals start looking really sketchy, and you should probably rebuild it with forged stuff. There's always the guys with the 253k mile van engine and the cheapest ebay twin turbo kit imaginable that will runs dirty 9's at the strip for the afternoon, but realistically won't last more than 2k miles before it grenades itself.
Get an LSA crankshaft for about $600-$700 a set of summit LS pistons and a nice set of rods and your good to go for about $2000 + the engine itself and a little machine work.
I just picked up a 4.8 with flat top pistons, I’ve got a set of 862 heads in the garage I’m bout to hurt some egos when I pair it with this AR five transmission, and throw it in the tbucket.
People love LS engines, easy reliable big power. Good for drift, good for 1/2 mile, good for the track, it does it all except for pay for your divorce attorney
my 2007 chevy tahoe ltz has the 5.3L and its still a beast with over 200k miles on it and bro has the 4.8L Yukon, both great engines but damn you feel that bigger 5.3L. Running 275?55R/20 all terrain tires on them, gas is ass though of course lol
I always knew GM screwed up when they used this motor with a FWD ONLY transmission back in '08 in the Grand Prix GXP and the Impala SS. So much potential, WASTED. I've been thinking about this 325 recently though, a whipple super charger did great on these years ago, probably still do.
My mother had the GP GXP and I really loved taking it out for a drive. Yeah, the torque steer would put you halfway into the other lane, but the thing would SMASH any unsuspecting import on the highway. Love that GXP EDIT: She traded it for a Fusion Sport with the twin turbo 2.7L AWD. Much better car, but the Pontiac had more character.
ive thought about that too, before i became a mechanic and just hearing about the grand prix v8 and impala, i thought they would have been rwd... the point of having that engine with fwd? i mean you got traction lol.. but when you stomp on it and one wheel wants to go faster than the other and you almost crash.. kinda stupid idea. at least in those years Pontiac did the gto justice with Manuel trans and rwd. even though looked NOTHING like the goat lol. then again... none of these cars look anything like their predecessors
perfectly said! Extreme amount of wasted potential! Pontiac could’ve been great! The GTO was acceptable but it didn’t look the best! The G8 with the 6.0 is still my dream car!
Totally agree the the g8 gxp or just the g8 is hands down one of the best cars ever made. I live in a very small town and their is 2 of them that are nasty as shit (supercharged) I watched one littlerlly discrase a hellcat like 5 different times and ways. Later that night we all went out and the hellcat guy acted like he had peeed his pants at his kids take your parents to school day!!!!!😂
I'm waiting for my grandpa to hand me down his Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3l someday. The mileage is a bit high but it's been very well maintained. The only problems he ever had came from the cylinder control valves when the actuators got seized. When he gives me that truck I'll start working on getting that engine swapped into my Z31 300zx. T56 outta fit fine, just gotta figure out the rear-end and get a standalone. I want to keep it n/a with an upgraded cam, injectors and direct port nitrous. If I can get 350whp or more on 93-octane I'll be totally happy :)
These engins were in Camaros, pickup trucks, vans, U-Haul/rental trucks, station wagons, for over 25 years, & are absolutely everywhere withon the lower 48 states. You'll find these engins in any 1 of the aforementioned vehicles that was assholed, t-boned or just dumped at a junk yard, put about $2K into it, & you have an elite grade powerplant, for cheap. Same goes for the 302/351 Windsors, Coyotes, 318/360 MOPAR engins as well!
My first one I bought a 6 liter and my buddy had a 4.8 crank this was years ago and he had some k1 rods and wiseco pistons so we got tanked it at the shot put new rings some summit head studs And new timing chain in it I had a ole 4150 performer intake and elderbrock elbow we had my buddy to a quick head job on it and decked the surface that way I didn’t have no problems and put a 88 milameter vs turbo on it with procharger blow off waves that was back in 2013 maybe and I traded it off in 2016 and built a good 408 with forged interals bjt that summbitch is still going honestly now I have a dart block 427 with twins forced inductions all I’m saying if you get into this stuff it’s addictive and you may stay broke.
Bro my fiancés mom and dad have to Chevy surburbens with 5.3s with both over 500k miles and nothings been replaced except transmissions the 5.3 is like a gasser 7.3 the engine just doesn’t die and just keeps going and the crazy part I the bought both of the with 200k miles both for 1000$ bucks it’s crazy these damn things run longer then brand new cars.
They got some 4.8 and 5.3 blocks with casting numbers on them that say "4.8/5.3/6.0" on them, and u can bore them out to a 6.0. If you bore the 5.3 out to 3.902, and add a 4inch stroke, with upgraded 6.20 inch rods, u can make a 383, so now u just turned a 5.3 into a 6.3 liter engine. Idk how well it will hold to boost, boreing the walls out that wide, but i know naturally aspirated, thing makes power
When you're busted out the Chevy LUV 😁 I had a friend that built the Lil Datsun he had to put couple inches body lift on it for the fit under there with a 350 he called it his dog hunting truck it was a fun ride.
Theres a form somewhere online with a build called the heavy hitter i believe you use the crank and rods out of a 4.8 and slap them into a 6.0 block making a large displacement high rpm getting machine, it would definitly be insane to supercharge or turbocharge that combo.
