I love how many of the names for mechanics in this fight are based on outdated or largely discredited scientific theories (caloric theory, superchain theory/superstring theory, etc.). It's a subtle reinforcement of how wrong Athena is.
It's even more than that, in Phase 1 her ability names are named after not yet proven hypotheses (String Theory) while in Phase 2 she uses disproven scientific theories not because she is wrong but because she thinks that is how the world should be and now that she has the power to change it she actually alters reality so it fits her liking, when she uses caloric theory you resolve it more or less how people thought caloric theory worked.
I did record the first time my group saw enrage because I thought the animation was cool, here it is if you or anyone else wants to see it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--cGTC70RrVE.html
I love that her Enrage is "ignorabimus", which is part of the quote "Ignoramus et ignorabimus", or "We do not know and Shall not know." She's incapable of understanding why you would resist her True Divinity.
@@BlitzkriegOmega her entire fight is flawed and disproven theories; for it to end on that one is a true testimony to her arrogance as an individual, as well as her transgression as a scientist: believing that she had achieved perfection. For what IS science, if not the pursuit of a perfect reality? Im gonna be cringe here and quote bleach because Kurotsuchi's line is pretty true: when you have achieved perfection, then you have lost your purpose as a scientist. Athena failed to understand that fundamental principle and that imho is why she was doomed to fail in every scenario
6:15 I don't know why but "From the deepest of seven hells to the pinnacle of the heavens, the world shall tremble!" sounds like Della duck from Ducktales
I'm stunned no one's realized this is a remixed variant fight on the final boss of the Ivalice raid, Ultima the High Seraph. She even uses the same boss lines, and the 2nd phase music is a vocal version of the theme. One massive throwback to FF Tactics.
@@fatezero4643 imo the raid design teams are running out of ideas and it's been showing for some time, but htis is blatant! i don't even understand why besides "auracite" reference w/ the heart of sabik. but even then, why? no BEAT THE HEART OF SABIK ref, soken? come on now. I like this fight, but I WISH we'd gotten to see a normal version of it in, well, normal mode. I hate that they lock these boss fights behind savage level. but that's just - i just don't understand the dev design theory with it, and honestly haven't since they implemented these. raids have been disappointing since eden series imo. and even then, omega was showing some downfalls but that was still peak raiding days imo. that's also when I quit raiding cuz of IRL XD
@@RaxiazRedux It's not like they are running out of ideas. People are over-exaggerating with this one. Just to put it in perspective, the ARR raid was the Crystal Tower series and everyone loved it. Heavensward had the originals with the Void Denizens series and it was well received. Stormblood had the ivalice series which was fantastic, especially the Orbonne monastery where Ultima was the final boss. Shadowbringer had the Nier series AND NOT ONCE have I heard people complaining about that even though the raid is from an ENTIRE different series than Final Fantasy. Where were the "devs are running out of ideas" back then? hm? It's purely biased. Then people see Athena and the Ultima twist and people start complaining a lot. The fk?
@@Yokai_Yurithey are running out of ideas so bad that Yoshi literally had to do a FFIV copy story for 6.1-6.5 lmao. Crystal tower also felt like a homage but it’s clear Yoshi is obsessed with XII and wants to replicate it so bad
I can tell you but its heavy spoilers for a particular set of characters and story beat from A Realm Reborn. So if your happy with that then let me know and I will reply with it.
@Banana-cc5rx SPOILERS BELOW Basically Athena was the one who found the heart of the sabik, in the past way before our time. However The Heart of Sabik corrupts people and Athena was together with lahabrea and she became kinda crazy wanting to become a god. So because of this she can use the spell Ultima like how Lahabrea does during the ultima weapon fight because he channels the heart. There's also a running theory that the Heart of Sabik is a fragment from the final boss of the Rabanastre alliance raid.
@Banana-cc5rx All good I didn't want to give too much away from the msq as it does include more spoilers from that if I explained further, but hope your enjoying the game!
I also thought "Oh, another one of those people with a zoom mod." But I think it's just a weird perspective thing witht the snow globe mechanic? I think it makes your char smaller, which makes it seem like you're waaaay further out with you camera.
