The aquarium Anacharis Elodea plant needs a descent amount of lighting. Choose a light between the 5000k - 6500k light spectrum. Some aquarium lights just aren’t right now and that’s a very important variable with these plants. Even though this is considered to be one of the easiest aquarium plants in Mojave you still need adequate amounts of light.
You can float the Anacharis aquarium plant very easily by just placing it at your aquarium water surface. The plant doesn’t have to be in any specific way to thrive floating in your aquarium. This plant is so invasive that it will grow up to 1 inch a day in your aquarium if it’s happy with the scenario and environment.
The fact that this aquarium plant is so invasive makes it a great plant for your aquarium. The plant is very resilient and it can grow in a lot of scenarios where other plants can grow. I’ve seen it even XL and grow in a water bowl sitting near a window with zero filters or water changes.
You can plant Anacharis Elodea in your aquarium substrate for best results. This plant more quickly grow roots and grow vertical very rapidly. You can float this plant and planted in the substrate but it prefers to be rooted in Substrate. You will find that this plan is happier when it is rooted because it absorbs nutrients faster through the roots in the substrate. If you really want this plant to XL you can plant it in a nutrient rich Plante Substrate designed to feed aquarium plants.
The two key elements to success with this plant are lighting and nutrients. If you find that floating the aquarium plant doesn’t work for you you can try a liquid fertilizer. But be very careful because adding too much fertilizer to the water can also make your aquarium bloom in algae.

This aquarium plant prefers a substrate that has nutrients overgravel or sand. You can plant it in gravel or sand but it’s probably not going to do very well long-term. The idea here is to feed the roots of the plant with nutrients and sand or gravel doesn’t hold nutrients. It still may work for you to plant into sand but remember there’s no nutrients in that substrate.

When I was a teenager I used to use Anacharis a lot, but now as an adult I kinda forgot abt it because it is not pushed as much as other aquarium plants. I wonder if that do to how quickly it grows and propagates that there just isn’t enuff money in it for growers and aquarists. But as I prepare to set up a shrimp breeding tank I’m def getting back to this plant!

Hi, new to planted tanks. I have a higher betta sorority and have just planted the elodea. It really is pretty but I have had to trim back what I planted as it is too tall for my tank (20 g long). Also planted some type of tall grass. Really enjoy your videos 😊

From experience you don’t even need to plant it the roots will just grow into the substrate if it’s close enough

Just picked up some Anacharis yesterday while getting my first set of guppies. 6 males in a 20g high, tank finally cycled. I actually asked for guppy grass and the guy suggested Anacharis or Hornwort so I let him pick and he gave me a clump of Anacharis. I have an Amazon Sword, a Java Fern and some Java Moss. gravel tank with root tabs and easy green. floating the Anacharis for now will see how it goes may plant some pieces in the gravel.

Thanks for the video! I have two questions and hope you can answer. Q1) I bought the plant from aquarium shop and they look like Elodea but the seller didn't know the plant name. Is there any other aquatic plant look like Elodea? Q2) Is the possible that Elodea doesn't grow at all in a tank after planting it for whole week?

It’s the same plant, the proper name is egeria densa, you can Google it and find all the associated names like anacharis, elodea etc. I think it’s fine that you didn’t see any growth the first week, now after six months how is it?
