What is a bud eye, a bud union a basil break? The various parts of a rose can be confusing when you are trying to learn about them. This video runs you through some of the terms used to describe the Anatomy of A Rose.
I've just started my first ever rose garden with sub zero hybrid tea roses, bare root. They have done amazingly well! I am in the deep South.I use a fertilizer weekly as they are growing, water every few days,an root,it is now getting lots of green leaves.I am soooo excited!!Love your video's very helpful to new gardener like myself.Thank you!
Thank you for this info. I’m new to growing roses and many a time I’ve wondered what in the world others were talking about in their rose info videos. You’ve clarified a lot here.
Great video. I'm learning lots about roses the past two months and same of the terms you used and explained I was curious about but never asked. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you.. That was an exceptional explanation of the rose for this newbie rose grower. I inherited some roses planted the next province over. My grandmother put them in, in 1920. The homestead is under new owners and they are clearing the land. I dug them up and brought them west. Planted them last August and this will be their first year in the ground here for a full season. I'm doing my best to learn how to care for them and a few new ones I'll be putting in as well now. I even have a photo of my infant father born in the early 20's with the roses behind him
Thanks Mr. Zimmerman. I am very very interesting to view your clips. I earned many many skill that how to take care Roses! Nobody 's explained the care of Rose that clearer and more detail than you. Thank you very much!
I've finally decided to grow roses and this was Extremely helpful to me; I know rose hips and was looking into starters & cuttings, then was getting confused with BudEyes and what not; explained very well, and I thank you! Kat
Thank you so much for not being on RU-vid just for the sake of well being on RU-vid . Your videos are very helpful, detailed and most of all clear. Thanks for not standing in the back beating a rose bush to death and calling that a pruning tutorial.
Paul, I just recently moved to a place where I can grow roses (and keep them alive!) to my heart's content. This video has really helped me a lot and I can actually take better care of my roses when it comes to pruning. The terminologies were confused to me until you but you've enlightened me. Great video!
THANK YOU!!! I just moved into a house that has several rose bushes . . . they all need some work! I live in Colorado and am very happy to know what the rose hip is and to actually LEAVE it!
I am completely new to roses(and flowers, veggies are my thing) and just purchased a bare root, in the bag, plant. I am thrilled that I found your video before I actually planted it, here in Minnesota. You are truly an exceptional teacher with a delightful sense of humor! Looking forward to watching all your videos to gain confidence in the care of this plant. God Bless! Nancy

Thankyou for filling me in on these terms. I enjoy your videos and I think I like roses and growing them as much as you do. I live on the west coast in Vancouver. I would like to see more info as if I was a novice and I guess I am. I have a climber with big rosehips. So now I know. thanks I appreciate what you are doing. thanks again
This is one of the best info-packed videos I've seen yet! It helps drive home the points all the other people try and get across. THANK YOU for being aware of your camera and projecting yourself. (often times, people are so hard to hear or understand.) Well done! Definitely a subscriber now! :)
Thanks!!! Finally a video that clearly explains the rose parts. You didn’t block the view of the parts which unfortunately happens in other videos I have watched.
Just moved into our new house and have a climbing rose in the garden! Ive been looking at it for two months now, thinking to myself what on earth do I do with this? Your videos are just brilliant. Simple explanation that dispell some of the myths about rose pruning and care. Thankyou I dont feel so worried about touching it now. Im armed with my secateurs and ready to prune!
Glad the videos help. If you have questions please feel free to post them on my facebook page Paul Zimmerman Roses. It's a business page so you don't have to be invited.
Thanks so much about explain 🌹 hips and the Anatomy of the 🌹. I'm going to plant the seeds of my rose hips, and trim it. But come Fall like you said, I'm going to leave them on their.
Very helpful video - everything so clearly described! Would you consider making a video about deadheading roses? Hybrid teas are easy, but climbers and English roses confuse me. When roses are blooming in a spray, do deadhead the first one when it is finished? Just lop off the single bloom? If so, do you include the inch or two of stem that it grows on? Thanks!
Thanks for the video. You mentioned to leave the Rose Hips on throughout the winter. What time of the year is it best to stop cutting them off? It's late September here in the Midwest (Illinois).
Is it better to cut the blooms off before they turn into hips? I've been deadheading each bloom all summer long. Is this wrong? Should I let the blooms stay then crumble on the branch now that it's fall in Alabama? Thanks.
when u leave the hip on u leave it on for the entire winter? I have heard about trimming it down and covering the bush for the winter so if you leave the hip on do u still have to cover the base of the rose bush? especially if there is snow on the ground or do u just leave the entire thing?does the same concept apply to mini roses as well?deadheading mini roses do u cut it right under the hip of old head or do u cut above the 5 leave?do u use the same process if u just want a rose off ur plant?
@AshdownRoses Thank you so much for the great videos and all the invaluable information, broken down so even the most clueless can understand it (well, there's always one!). I second the suggestion for higher resolution. I used to have a really slow connection but it wasn't too much of a problem as RU-vid videos can be pre-loaded, but you are kind to keep in mind the less technologically gifted. However, better detail would be useful all round, I think. Thanks again.
Thank you Paul. I have a beautiful climbing rose, I was a way and when back we had a good sunny days and my rose were all the way up, But full of aphids. I have been spraying with water and detergent and as far as can see and reach, but they are still there and I think ants are climbing on and feasting too. Should I cut, or what can I do. appreciate your response.
See if you can get some insecticidal soap. Safers is a common brand. See if that will help get it under control. The ants are feeing off the aphids "honeydew". Get rid of the aphids and the ants should go away.
Paul - very informative - thank you. I have many canes that started late this summer and now are about 16 to 24 " long, growing like weeds. Even some late flowers have come from the rest of the existing canes. How do I now prune this bush so I get the best result for the rest of this season and next?
