I hope this helps some folks to easily, quickly, and safely complete this objective as it took me HOURS to find on my first few play throughs. I couldn't find a video explaining it or any (clear) pictures of where to find a precious stone and figured I'd change that.
Precious stones (of all types) protect against fear of the unknown and fear generated when predators are nearby. There are multiple types of precious stones throughout the game in high places or under rocks, and each type is counted as an evolutionary feat. When creating couples using any precious stone, you can only form 3 pairs before it stops working.
