For millennia Aboriginal people have gazed to the heavens at night.
They’d look to the stars for navigation, to mark seasons and to explain the mysteries of the Dreamtime.
Now Astrotourism WA is seeking to collect and share these stories.
Astrotourism WA CEO and founder Carol Redford is recruiting Aboriginal people to help create an Aboriginal astro tourism trail to help people learn about the magic of night skies from Aboriginal elders and guides.
She dreams of a day when Aboriginal people will sit around campfires with guests, sharing ancient stories, and using modern-day technology to unveil the intricacies of the universe.

Love to have gotten somewhere remote like that when I was in Australia but I had to settle for the Sydney Harbour National Park which was surprisingly dark looking sea ways.saw loads of objects which I hadn't seen since I was a boy growing up in South Africa.

Maybe you could have used night sky time lapses from the southern hemisphere instead of from the northern hemisphere for this video about southern hemisphere star knowledge. Sadly, very few viewers will notice because we have become disconnected from the star knowledge.

I wondered why the emu in the sky didn’t look like an emu!

Full respect to Aboriginal astronomy, but humans probably developed this very early on in our development, probably well before Aboriginals came to Australia. It's just that Aboriginal astronomy knowledge has remained much more intact over time. Our own star knowledge is probably also very old.
