Today we'll take a look at the Andonstar AD207 Digital Microscope. The microscope was kindly provided for review by Andonstar / AliExpress. And together we will see how it looks and performs during an SMD component replacement task.

Hello again John, lucky me - 2 videos in one day. That is a really neat little bit of equipment for the bench. I just checked on Aliexpress and the price has dropped from 169.00 US to 119.99 US which seems like a good deal to me. I paid almost that for my magnifier that I use. Thanks for the great demo. It is always better to see an item used and explained than just looking at the description on - line. Regards, Dave

Hi Dave.. Yes I think the prices have come down in the last week or so for these microscopes. Its amazing actually how much microscopes are reducing in price isn't it. Not only the digital ones either. I can remember that when I purchased my research grade optical scope with its accessories etc it cost me around £1500.. I think the same model now is at least £400 cheaper 😯 Cheers Dave John

I just recorded a review on this same microscope, will be publishing it in a couple of days time, I quite like the unit, not so keen on the remote though, I had trouble with it not working well in strong light whilst recording the video.

I liked the m'scope too. I found that the remote seemed to work well as long as it was aimed in the sensors general direction. I actually preferred using the remote over the rather noisy panel switches. Looking fwd to seeing your video 👍

Hello John, like you know im looking around some budget tools and now because of your review, i want this scope hehehe I like it, really nice for 100€. My concern is the vision (angle) position. After 1/2 hours looking at the scope LCD, maybe you got pain in you back/neck? Could a 50€ extra for the AD407 hdmi a better choice and plug to a monitor?

Hi Ricardo, Sorry for late reply. To be honest I don't use this scope much my friend, only for the odd job. With regards to neck pain, then yes you can get pain from using any tool that is not setup correctly. I even get pain in my neck whilst using my research grade microscope, as its really too low on my bench. I just put up with it though. As with any tool you have to make it suit you, and if that means lifting or lowering a table or bench or supporting it with books, than it has to be done to avoid the pain. Personally I don't think spending more money will help here.. Unless the other scope you are considering perhaps has a tilt screen etc which of course may help a little as it will give you more options. Cheerss John

Looks very handy to me, i could have done with that the other day when a frend wanted me to solder on a new socket on a go pro hero 3 +, that wasn't fun with my fading eyesight and antex soldering iron and just ordinary solder. (Yes i like pain lol ). It had about ten pins, more than i had expected from a socket that looked like a usb connection, i'm sure you know the socket as you have done ba-zillions :-D.

Hi Harv. Hahaa.. Flippin'eck, you did well though soldering one of those GoPro 10 pin jobbies on with the naked eye. I bet you couldn't see for a few hours afterwards 😮 Cheers friend John

Why did they reduce the magnification from 200x on the AD206 to 100x on the AD207? Then on the AD407 they increased it to 270x but took away the lights in a ring around the camera leaving the two on the side that are always in the way and never seem to cast a decent light.

I don't really keep an eye on this stuff buddy so can't answer those questions. Perhaps product development is just sorta done on the fly over there, and the manufacturers just make different models of everything.

whether this microscope is comfortable to use with a hot air to replace ic?

I have not done extensive tests with hot air, but it should be ok.. Just don't allow too much heat to effect the lens or other plastic parts of the microscope.

hello, is ad207 model enough for setting stones in jewelery or is it better to add and buy ad407?

Ad206 is suitable for you; jewelry does not need a large focal length. ad206 min 20mm max 170mm. 200x magnification.

Very tedious to watch with such a poorly planned approach. Why use a 7"screen when it's surely better to display on a PC monitor, this is not a portable device.
