The season finale of Andor is finally here! It's been quite a journey for our Rebel heroes, and for us Star Wars fans. This episode was cathartic, poignant, and kept me jumping out of my seat. It also included a bonus scene after the credits that I totally missed!!! We'll have to discuss that in another video. Until then, thanks for joining me and let me know what you thought of Andor episode 12, "Rix Road"!

All respect to the GOAT, John Williams….Andor uses sound and music better than anything we’ve ever gotten. That somber funeral march, from the band tuning up, to the broken, discordant notes, all building to a sad, then powerful score…magnificent Anyone that wasn’t ready to cry, then fight has no heart
@benjaminroe311ify
@benjaminroe311ify Год назад
Agreed. I mean there is a lot of epic music in Star Wars. Lots of emotional stuff. But the funeral scene music to the finale. Also the music at the end of Episode 3 and Episode 10 are all incredible...
@ricitizen
@ricitizen Год назад
This has been an excellent series, which really needs to be looked at not episode by episode but as a well-written novel. With that said, each episode has so many emotional moments to enjoy. In this episode, one moment that warmed my heart was Cassian and Brasso's hug in the tunnel. Clearly, Cassian needed that hug. He has been thru hell. He learns that his mom has died and is feeling the pain and guilt of her loss. He barely managed to escape the prison, but it's not lost on him that Kino and many others likely did not make it. But he is home now and is greeted by a friend who gives him the firm embrace he needs. He needed that recharge of the genuine love of family and community he had been missing. Cassian keeps so much of his pain hidden that he needs to let go and cry for all he has been through. But short of that, Brasso's hug lifted him to a point where he needed to prepare for his next battle.
@JenniferLanda
@JenniferLanda Год назад
Great analysis of that moment! It's amazing that we could feel the weight of everything you mentioned in that one hug. Truly fantastic acting and writing.

When Brasso is telling him Maarva's last words to him, you can tell that he's relaying everything as it was said, but you can see in his face and hear in his tone that he's in complete agreement with her on all of it.

Diego Luna had the thankless role of being the catalyst for a lot of other great actors to have their big scenes, like Nemik, Kino Loy, Marva while mostly being more restrained, though no fault of his own, it's just the way the character is written. But I think he did a great job at conveying emotion in a much more subtle manner. He doesn't get the big speeches, but the tone of his voice, his delivery, the facial expressions, they were all on point. Little moments like at the very beginning when he tells the corpo rent-a-cops, "Tell me what to do!" or the Narkina 5 jailers, "On program!", you can hear the pent up rage from years of oppression. Andor is quickly becoming one of my favorite Star Wars characters and not because he's "cool" or "funny" but because he's relatable as a human being and realized so well by Diego Luna.

@@EACru2002 Great analysis. Funny you say all this because I was watching a video where someone suggested (and I think they're correct) the following points: the character is, like you said, written that way, but it's on purpose because WE the audience are Cassian. Notice how he's often watching things, observing the big moments you mentioned. That's the show telling YOU, personally, to join the Rebellion and giving - showing - you the reasons to do so. Your finding Cassian incredibly relatable is no accident - he's your vessel through the story. Diego Luna has particularly great eye acting and an intense gaze, perfect actor traits for the metaphor of his character being the audience's eyes.

Just discovered your channel through this vid, it's refreshing finding another reactor/reviewer that actually appreciates the finesse and effort that goes into shows like these. It's fun watching other reactors, but often times they're just tracing back to other niche star wars references and whatnot. I really like that you actually talk about how much Tony Gilroy has put into this show and the colossal amount of detail, production quality, direction that this whole show has. Good work! On a sidenote, seeing Maarva explicitly calling the Empire a disease was so badass, and Luthen, a man we've seen previously to be the most grizzled, discompassionate, pragmatic rebel, actually looked moved- as if he realised that he too underestimated what Ferrix really is- who Maarva really is. I could spend hours talking about this show so it's nice watching your video and seeing you also recognise this show for how great it really is

Luthen always wanted Cassian to fully join him but knew that it was impossible at the start, so he hired him as a mercenary instead. Because he was a loose end after Aldhani they wanted to kill him but now that Cassian wants to fully join up with the rebellion Luthen laughs because he knows just how good Cassian is and how much they can do together.

Thanks for another great vid! From your reaction, I think you got the meaning Cassian’s last line wrong. ”Kill me or take me in…” …to your inner circle/the rebellion (not to the authorities or anything like that.☺️) He wants to live, he wants to fight. That’s why Luthen is smiling. You’re awesome Jen 🙏

I really think that the scene with the Andor and his dad was also an analogy for Bix. She is beaten and appears to be broken but when clean will become better than new. Combine with Maarva speech, I think she will rise to become a key rebel leader.

Cassian leaving the gun for Luthen is primarily bc he knew that he came there to kill him and that he would not stop until it happened. That direction “kill me or take me in” is Cass telling him either choose to put all of your original intentions away and let’s fight together, or fulfill them. In a way he knew that was the only way, while also having and acting on that desire now fully in him to fight, for him, for maarva, for his friends, family, comrades, for everyone. And it is a direct contrast to their previous interaction on that ship where Cass pulled the gun on him and Luthen basically prompted him with the same choices.

12:48 The animated show Rebels that also deals with the rebellion, also features a younger Saw Guerrera as well as other characters such as Mon Mathma (after the Andor series) Maul, Obi Wan, leia and more, showed us big holograms like this as well. We also learned more of the spiritual forces behind “The Force” and how animals are involved as well. There are witches and ghosts. But also regular people like Andor fighting. If you haven’t watched it, it is worth it. But is animated and some people never got to learn the rest of the rebellion because they didn’t give this cartoon a chance….

13:50 Luthen is the most fascinating character I think. After seeing his two characters and the part he plays, the charismatic and happy dealer always smiling. I feel like this is finally a legitimate smile resonating from who Luthen truly is. For once, the man who sacrificed everything, smiles at the fruits of his labor and hard work manifesting in a small town on a pointless planet that sparks the fire of Rebellion across the Galaxy. Beautiful reaction ❤

I'm pretty sure that's not a wedding for Leida and Davo's son at the end. Davo said he wasn't asking for a betrothal (although I'm sure I heard an unspoken 'yet' at the end of that claim) so it probably wasn't even an official engagement, it was just a formal introduction. I do get the impression that we're talking about an _arranged_ marriage here and not a _forced_ marriage. The parents set their kids up with each other, and probably apply all sorts of pressure to convince them to marry, but they can't legally compel them to do so if they don't want to.
@JenniferLanda
@JenniferLanda Год назад
You're absolutely right. The formality of their introduction threw me off, but afterwards it was pretty clear it wasn't a wedding, or even a betrothal ceremony. And if Leida wants to stick to the old Chandrilan traditions, she may not have a problem with this arrangement!
@smartalec2001
@smartalec2001 Год назад
@@JenniferLanda the implication is that the old Chandrilan traditions are being encouraged by the Empire - it doesn't hate all culture, just the culture it doesn't control. The promotion of core-world high-society human-centric culture is one of its tools. Another vaguely Nazi-ish element to the Empire, there, co-opting traditional values.

You recognized that the band switched to a battle march! Great! Brasso had told B2 the day before "The Daughters require your service." Clearly, they had already heard Maarva's speech and were intending to start some shizzle. Refusing to adhere to the Empire's instructions on their numbers, or their timing, or limitations on their movements, they intended to rebel, even in a small way. If the Imperial governor had merely kept cool and let them have their demonstration, it's possible that even Wilmon might not have used his bomb. I suspect Dedra will be able to pin the entire fiasco on the Imperial governor.

Just to clarify (and you probably know this by now, but just in case), by "Kill me or take me in" Cassian meant take him into the rebellion. It's a call back to episode 4 when Cassian says "It's better to live" than to really fight the empire. Now he's saying he'd rather be dead than not fight.

Have watched this series TWICE...will admit, did not do that even for GOT:House of the Dragon. Why? Perhaps because Andor characters have more depth due to the role in life...not required to be leaders with no choice. They all have some measure of choice to "sleep" or WAKE UP and ACT. Excellent writing. Star Wars for grownups...at last.
