#Andor #Eastereggs #Starwars
Welcome to ScreenCrush, I’m Ryan Arey, and this is all of the easter eggs, references, and little things that you might have missed in episodes one through 3 of Andor. If you’ve only seen the first episode, watch us for a while, watch the next one, and come back. We’ll be here waiting for you, because you’re amazing.
Now a lot of you are going to think this show starts off kind of slow, and takes a while to get going. And you’re not wrong.
But so far, this is one thing I love about this show. It's an origin story for both Cassian Andor, and for the Rebellion. These first three episodes really take their time showing the day to day life in the galaxy. Not through the eyes of a jedi or a pirate-but through a poor person. These people are just like the junk all over their planet-they’ve all been discarded by the wealthy.
This is the key element to forming a rebellion. If the empire treated all its citizens well and everyone earned a living wage, then there never would have been a revolution. But this show is showing us the economic underpinnings of the rebellion. It’s showing us why we fight.
I’m actually super glad this is a star wars project with space wizards. They’re only special if they’re rare.
Maybe this show is more geared toward adults than past Star wars projects. There is a lot of 80s tech laying around to fuel our nostalgia. But if there’s rom for different genres in Star wars, then I say, why not have a star wars show that f***s.
I’m going to go into more detail about the show’s themes, and explain the flashbacks a little later in the videos. But first, let’s go through some easter eggs.
The first easter egg is in the title screen: Cassian’s droid, B2EMO has joined the droids in the opening star wars title. Next we go to the blackness of space, the great unknown. At this point in history, small rebel cells are beginning to form on different planets, with no contact to one another. Each of them is isolated, but they’re looking into this same darkness and wondering if there are other rebels out there, like them. Then, slowly, dawn comes onto a planet. The reveal of light in the galaxy is a theme in Star Wars that keeps recurring as a symbol of hope. There’s the light of the jedi, Rey’s name is ray like a ray of light, and force awakens was pretty over the top with this symbolism.
Showing dawn on this world is appropriate because the series is showing us the dawn of the rebellion. And then the letters of Andor’s name slowly drift together, like the different rebel bands in the galaxy slowly forming a united military unit. This is also symbolizing how Andor himself was going to come into his own in this series. And finally the dawn of the planet becomes a proto rebel alliance symbol, because the dawn of the rebellion is a new dawn for the galaxy,
You’ll notice that the planet font matches the style of Rogue One: A Star Wars story, which is a prequel to A New Hope, and this show is kind of a prequel to that movie.
We open on Morlana One, a corporate zone.
Here’s what this means. So when America was being industrialized, a company would open up a factory in town, and then build a town around it. These were company towns, where every other business like groceries stores, bars, etc.--basically existed to serve that factory. And we’re seeing the same thing here.
Morlana is a network of planets that is ruled by this corporation. Now the empire supports this organization, they pay taxes to the government, and supply them with material-but the empire has no interest in governing this place directly. It’s kind of like the cloud city in the empire strikes back. That was a mining facility that was trying to keep the empire from being interested in them.

Note that in the flashbacks Andor wanted to go with the raiding party. He was one of the first to notice the crash survivor get up, but did not warn his leader. And even when everyone was shooting darts at the crash survivor, he didn't. Maybe that's why he started to smash his reflection.

Cassian telling Luthian about just walking in because they can't believe someone like him would dare take from the Empire reinforces the brief back and forth in A New Hope about the Empire not seeing small one man fighters as a threat or they'd have a tighter defense. If the Empire ever had the thought someone like Cassian would just walk right on in and take their stuff, they'd have tighter security. But they don't because they don't see the threat just one person can be against their mighty Empire. Nice little tie in to the first movie if you ask me.

The real reason is how little the upper echelon cares about the middle echelon. Just like in society, the lowest and highest in the Imperial power circle is the worst. I like that they really take the time to establish their world and their characters. I think we've gotten so used to the six-episode-format of other disney+ shows that it now feels slow to many when there is four times as many episodes, but I really appreciate that the story can breathe here. And I also am really really loving getting into the politics and the nitty gritty of it all ☺️ my only criticism is that the sound mixing could be a little bit better defined because it is sometimes difficult to understand the different accents of english for a non-native speaker. But on the whole I love it so far, it seems to have a very solid vision. And also Rogue One is my absolute favourite SW film 🥰

@@CT_Taylor Yeah, even for a limited series 8-10 eps is more usual. Six eps worked for the established characters' series I think, but giving them a couple more wouldnt have been detrimental. Star Wars has always had social commentary. Still find it odd some seem to think this is something new.
@eyespy3001
@eyespy3001 Год назад
On the contrary, I think the social-political commentary is high in this, because that’s what it centers on. That is what sets it apart from most of the recent Star Wars stuff. It’s actually saying something about our current state of affairs rather than just parading it across the screen in empty gestures.

The slow burn is absolutely necessary. It’s setting up HOW it got to the point of rebellion. Can’t just come in guns blazing

The scenes of scrapping large ships, especially the huge side of a ship crashing down, immediately made me think of the opening of ‘Jedi: Fallen Order’ where Cal Kestis is working in a massive yard where they scrap parts of imperial (and other) ships. If I’m not mistaken, that was also in 5 BBY. Fingers crossed for Cal to be introduced into live action at some point in the Andor series and then spun off into his own series 😊

I love how the show has an older tone but knows when to stop. Shows nowadays always have to show nudity or scenes completely unnecessary. This show is perfectly balanced so far.

I'm subscribed to a couple of other channels that are specific to Star Wars. You by far exceeded their explanations. I'm somewhere in between a casual SW fan and a Fan Boy so I can normally follow things fairly easily. I couldn't with them. So much to the point I was ready to give up on the series. Now thanks to you, I'm anticipating Episode 4 next week. Great job Screen Crush!!!!!

Fantastic recap of three outstanding episodes that tied in perfectly to introduce us to the amazing show. I love the pace of each episode and the more adult feel to the show. This is the first live action SW show that understands what the pacing of a great TV show should be. Take your time to develop the characters and worlds around the viewer. That is what GoT did so well in its first several seasons. Thanks again for the great recap. Time to go watch all three again before number four comes out.

The Place/Background or Bluecreen you have remind me of the Video-Store my Mother owned when I was younger ! In the early days we had little plastic clips with numbers hanging in front of the VHS/DVD in the shelves, so much good memories. I’m streaming heavily but somehow it gets me sad, it was nice to talk with customers about the movies they have rent and we shared a small conversation about movies/series, good old days !

its also cool to note that the shots of that shipyard you see a lancer class pursuit craft (which was used by the sith ketsu onyo, this is most likely not the shadowcaster) and you see a VCX-100 (which is most likely not the Ghost from the Rebels)/ The attention to some lore detail is pretty sweet for the show!

This show looks SO expensive. I hope that indicates that they're going to do big things with the story. Not that I'd mind a low-key look at the SW underworld with a blockbuster budget; I just don't expect Disney would write that check. I also thought the look inside the security corp was extremely authentic. The details, from the way they treat their uniforms to the tension between the boss who understands how everything actually works, the naïve diggit, and the workers just trying to do their job was so real it gave me flashbacks to my time in the service.
