Enjoyed this Andor: Syril Karn & Dedra Meero, "The Ship" that I Don't Want! video??? Consider LIKING this video & SUBSRCIBING to the channel for more uploads.
I think this weird little romance actually works (from a writing standpoint, not a social standpoint) *because* of how creepy it is. These are two utterly dysfunctional people. Cold, emotionless, driven only by their work. They have so little humanity in them - Syril because of his abusive mother, Dedra for reasons I'm sure we'll find out in Season 2. The fact that they're able to bond romantically over a shared enemy fits them both perfectly. I think we're meant to be disgusted by it as an audience. So yeah, I think from a writing standpoint that this is a great place to take the characters.
What has his mother done that's abusive? I mean there relationship is bad and yes she playes a major part in that because she dosn't seem to understand her son at all in his anything, but still she's not abusive
@@catsaresocute650 You are literally wrong. Emotional and physical abuse are different, but emotional abuse is a very real thing. For example, gaslighting.
Nah the ship we all want .... Even the actors say how there is tension between them and tease how it is a love story and how they are twin flames .....
If there is a "relationship" between these two, I want it to be as abnormal, left-field, non-George Lucas style ever. Something that shows how destructive dysfunctional relationships can be.
The degree of sophistication revealed in Andor's character interactions is truly remarkable. Although Meero has acquired a detestable aura, in particular because of the auditory torture scene involving children, seeing her weakened and suplicating during the riot in episode 12, the authors have been able to awaken in me a feeling of compassion mixed with sadness. It's been a long time since a TV series had brought up such feelings.
Syril has been taking losses left and right. He was disgraced and stripped of any authority. Andor ruined everything for him. Its not a surprise he slowly descended into madness. Dedra represents everything Syril wants. Authority, position, law/order...also a hot blonde lol. She is picking up where he left off in the hunt for Andor. Also Denise Goughs acting is amazing. The aftermath of her also getting killed was top tier.
She is not 'a hot blonde' hence Your entire interpretation is based upon mere tropes. Karn doesn't care about 'law and order', but about determining his fate - which is why liberals don't understand historical fascism and call it 'madness' in comparison to their _manipulative_ republics...
@@Rey_Palpatine I agree. Also you should have ascended and taken Palpatine thrones for yourself. With Father and daugther together you could have conquered the entire universe. They will pay the price for their lack of vision They understimate the POWER of the dark siiiiiiide.
Not sure why everyone is so repulsed by the possibility of an entanglement between these two. We all know of more than a handful of relationships in our own lives that are this brand of trainwreck. Plus, this left field dynamic between these two characters must have some consequence that the writers are steering us towards. I find it VERY fascinating where it may be heading. Either these two will foul up the Empires chances for stopping the fledgling rebel alliance before it gets started (possibly because of their involvement with one another), or they will flip on establishment some kind of way that ends up giving the rebels a leg up
They are the definition of "a match made in Hell". They make eachother worse. They deserve eachother. I really hope they get together, that makes it easier to bomb both of them at once in season 2.
In the words of Chancellor Palpatine "Do it!" The embodiment of Imperial ambition+ Creepy stalker that'll spit shine her boots and custom tailor her uniforms. Derda deserves a simpy bodyguard butler who'd take a blaster bolt for her... If not for the dark side "Do it" for Syril's mom. Lol
It’s not clear it will be a romance -But Deerdra at last sees Syrill as a man to take seriously. A man of thought, reason, and boldness. A man who acts with swiftness. He may seem a bit stalkerish and needy, but that’s only because he has felt invisible. Until more that is.
It's not a ship, it's intentional sexual tension that drives the narrative arc of both characters. Also, it's wonderfully acted and 'obsessive male sub stalks fascist female dom' is an original and transgressive idea that generates a lot of interesting drama. hnggg yeah that's right change my system mummy uwu
I think this story will be good enough. At least it not obvious love story and we should pay respect to the Syrill efforts and heroic moment to save damsel in need 😂
I feel like the relationship is more of a critique/deconstruction of the Will They/Won't They trope that was popularized in the 90s by characters like Ross and Rachel on "Friends" or Niles and Daphne on "Frasier" and carried on with things like Ted and Robin on "How I Met Your Mother"; Shows that tended to romanticize some really problematic to full blown dysfunctional romantic behavior. People complain that the characters don't have chemistry, but I don't think they're supposed to, it's a demonstration of how ugly this stuff actually is, which why it's being portrayed by "bad guy" characters and not "good guy" characters.
This is the greatest ship I've seen in any movie in a long time. There's no telling who they spawn. Probably someone important we've already seen in the postquels. And it's at least a million times better than that stupid 'come away from the window' lez 'couple' we saw for 1 second. How wonderful that the only serious romantic couple in the entire Andor series so far happens to be on the enemy side. Brilliant writing.
All I ask is that if there is a relationship, it should advance the plot, move the characters along their arc and be well written. A short lived, dysfunctional relationship ending in regret could be interesting.
It works _because_ it’s creepy. You really think people like them know how to have a good relationship? I want Andor to show a toxic ship with the two. I want the drama that could spark from this.
It’s naive and suggestive of someone unfamiliar with archetypal narrative patterns to say that one “didn’t see this relationship coming.” Beneath her attempt at cold, detached, professional individualism, Dedra has been intrigued by Syril Karn from their very first encounter. They have a shared passion that they are perversely mistaking for a passion for one another: their desire to apprehend Cassian Andor and “bring him to Imperial justice (sic).” That is why their relationship was eminently predictable and why it works. Now that the homicidally vengeful Cinta has murdered the ISB agent during the Ferrix riot, the ISB has a convenient opening for someone working closely with Dedra. Perfect. Even if Dedra-who, unlike nearly every other major character, has absolutely no connections or past-turns out to be Andor’s long-lost sister. I see the discovery of this possible sibling bond as potentially “turning” her eventually, which will at last definitively break Karn’s obsessive, fanatical belief in immutable “Imperial law and order.” Great stuff!
I think this relationship works in a unhealthy way and I think it should progress because to me it shows not all relationships are healthy some are toxic bringing out the worst qualities in each other it would make sense if they are to remain villains. Something like this will happen. It gives them each personality makes them human which Andor does a fine job of.
How tf is "Cryl" creepy? Because he tried to find her that one time after the interrogation to help with the Andor search and touched her arm, then saved her when she was being dragged off to being executed? Sure sounds like the end of the world...
@@kevinzhang6623 If one has to explain how a creepy character who has no life, lives with his Mother, has no social life or ability to interact with people outside of a J O B is nobody is gonna help you to understand 🤔
@@ppacal1098 Odd response considering how you responded to a question asking why "Cryl" is creepy. How a creepy character with no life, lives with his mom, no non-professional social interaction ability... does what?🤣Might be time for a basic English language refresher. That those qualities must be creepy, or that having no life and living with your mom deprives your social skills? But I can see why a job, even in the Star Wars universe, may be your worst enemy. You live on your own when you have a job, which Cyril did for years, and immediately being fired he goes to the nearest family member who then secures him a job within days, and the only words out of her mouth is how wrong he is and how he should feel bad about not living her. Cyril's choice going there is just being smart. Leaving his mom's house after that would've just come off as ungrateful. Don't have much experience in the real world, do you? He's clearly speaking with his mom, old coworker(the Sergeant), Dedra all outside of work even if all those conversations were about work, but were outside a job nonetheless. No life, just the "job" - In... the Star Wars universe? Besides the background characters, all we see of the characters when they're on screen are them on the job 😂, be it Rebels, Jedi, Mandalorians, so on, so what do you expect, more jokes cracked, or casual conversations about small, passing things like music, movies, celebrities or what not? Which are all done to ease tension by the way, of which Cyril and Dedra clearly have developed a high tolerance of stress for. Not to mention that Cyril is dead set on Andor, finding a way back in, and cares for little else.
I agree with many here that this is way too creepy to be the start of any kind of relationship. But their interactions definitely skirt some strange boundaries. I had forgotten that Syril thanks her here. And later, when he rescues her, she says she ought to thank him. But he is still a nobody compared to her. And yet, he had some sense that Andor was part of a larger potential piece of the resistance. I can't wait to see how this develops.
if they do ship, it'll be the most awkward "how did you two meet?" story of all time: "well, first he tampered with my work data, then he waited outside my workplace, and finally he followed me down the street during a riot. that's probably when the stockholm syndrome kicked in"
Pay attention to Denise Gough's facial expressions, all her eye and mouth movements as Karn talks to her. Damn, she's good! I don't think there is yet any chemistry between them. Both of them are more interested in gaining their own ends, and that will continue. They will likely become allies, but they'll never decide to settle down and become a happy couple.
I believe that they are going to put them together. Try to build some type of chemistry with them. I just uploaded a video talking about Denise Gough's interview that she did last year talking about both Dedra & Syril Karn. Check that out. This interview is very interesting. I'm looking forward to season 2.
I kind of feel like eventually Syril will betray Dedra when he thinks she is no longer useful to him. They're both very cold characters and I can't imagine them having much emotion for each other aside from seeing each other as useful tools to reach their respective goals.
I thought it was out of character for her to so groveling thank him for saving her when if you really watch the scene, she didn’t appear to be in any real danger at all, except for being accidentally knocked over from what I could tell. They seemed to be ignoring her. Where do they go from here? I doubt there would be a relationship that could seem realistic. He’s like the guy that lives in his mom‘s basement and she’s like a cold fish. I can’t see her being passionate towards him or anyone.
I mean she litterally took a rock to the head-which could kill someone-or in her case heavily disorient her. Lost her pistol, looks like she took a knee/kicked in the face...then was about to be torn apart by the commoners.......but like you said...no real danger..
@@westwardstar1686 what I mean was nobody was targeting her as an individual…. She could’ve went into that doorway without cyrill. When you watch the scene, nobody’s even putting their hands on her….just cyrill
With the understated extreme intensity both of them have... this is setting up for potentially the most violent hate fucking scene in the history of cinema.
