The Fringe is no longer the fringe. They are in fact a gathering of people conforming to their own bigoted points of view. Time to create a new comedic platform.

Frankie Boyle is a very very impressive person. One day he was making fun of disabled children. The next, a social justice warrior. All this without fasting in the wilderness, no silence in caves. All it took was falling ratings.

The new authoritarians are MUCH worse than Mary Whithouse. For all the ludicrousness of Ms Whitehouse, she was never deeply misogynist like the current nutters are.

Staff refusing to work in shows that their employers want to present should move on or be sacked, right?

Reading Andrew’s excellent book The New Puritans, so this is very topical.

When ever I hear about comedians being cancelled I think of Bernard Manning. "I don't discriminate. I offend everyone equally". "You can't please everyone, so why bother trying?"

For Andrew to humbly suggest he is merely a comedian is hilarious. I think hes also managed to become one of the nation's foremost philosophers. What a gent and an inspiration.

I would say the Scottish Government needs to step in and stop this destruction of freedom of speech, but they were the ones who enabled it.

Protecting children and women’s language and sex segregated spaces is now a valiant act that can ruin your life and reputation( amongst idiots and bullies) I will never stop because we are not wrong.

Hopefully, this will be the beginning of the end of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. There is nothing Fringe about it any more.

So the culture warriors take on freedom of speech, on humour, romance, irony, satire, metaphor, intelligence in general. Andrew Doyle, Graham Linehan, for heaven’s sake - two gentlemen with a superior grasp of the English language, sophisticated, and as funny as heck. If history teaches you anything then it was (almost) always the truth that was silenced.

If they think it's ok to cancel him, that means its ok to cancel the cancelers 😂😂😂.

I remember Tony Slattery talking about Jimmy Mulville being someone who let him down when he most needed support. It was no surprise when I heard Graham Linehan on JHB's show talking about Mulville being equally weak about the "Father Ted" musical. As for the "Leith Arches" - they are now, as far as I'm concerned, CANCELLED. I will not patronise their shoddy venue in the fringe, or beyond it.

Thing is, it just makes Comedy Unleashed more popular.

Who decided that things that were funny 20 years ago, are no longer funny but outrageous and disgusting? Human nature doesn't change in two decades, and neither does society. This is a artificial and imposed view, not an evolving one. Comedy always had a political element, but it was never political per se. Now every joke exists in political parentheses.

If you believe in freedom of expression then boycott the Edinburgh Fringe next year ! 👍🇬🇧

I did live in Edinburgh for 15 years and the Fringe was always open to all viewpoints and opinions, in fact, the name " fringe" was based on that idea!

Up is down and inclusion now means exclusion. To quote Sabatini, “Most of this world’s misery is the fruit not as priests tell us of wickedness, but of stupidity”. And what a display of stupidity.

This cancellation was appalling. “We are an inclusive space,” Psht! This is getting so tiresome.

Where is Chris Morris on this and why isn’t he standing up for Graham? The silence from those he has worked with, helped and called friends is deafening.

Graham Linehan has a great deal of support, but it is hard, I think for us to find ways in which we can show it.

A good comedian makes you laugh, then makes you think. Andrew Doyle is a great comedian, as is Jimmy Carr.

Self censorship is absolutely a problem in teh Comedy scene

It’s a mad world when it comes as no surprise that the word inclusivity has come to mean the exact opposite.

Andrew is being disingenuous about Mary Whitehouse. She was first and foremost an anti porn campaigner. Its because of her that shops were forced to put men's mags on the top shelf, out of the eyeline of children. She warned what would happen with "smut" on tv, and here we are, with porn available to children on their phones. At least she tried. R.I.P.

That thing where they take the deeply personal (often exaggerated) views of their staff is scary. It applies in so many ways now. e.g. I was accused of something bad at our local library and staff made notes and keep a private record and they put it in a 'risk register' and I wasn't involved in anything bad, I was simply chatting to a teenage boy (age 17 - I'm 50) at the library PCs - (we were talking about job searching and training options after leaving school without basic qualifications) and staff assumed I was trying to manipulate the boy - but the scary part is that the library argued and still argues (after investigating) that even though the staff were wrong and even made claims that were untrue - that they are entitled to their opinion and their entitled to feel safe. They won't even apologise to me. It is hurtful. I'm now pursuing this legally but it is a similar tendency here in NZ everywhere especially in music, comedy, theatre, the gender idea (very 'PC' nowadays) and terrifyingly in the what they call the public service - government. Bureaucrats are becoming fascistic - but not based on laws or policies - based on their feelings - and they get away with it - and lawyers won't challenge it. Is this common in GB as well? Re 'cancelling' shows = such a shame because British comedy (I have to say for me esp. the older stuff) is very special - I think its important for good mental health! - e.g. genuine, naughty and pulls no punches.

Lord Doyle is always a joy to listen/read/watch. One can hope the Leith venue suffers backlash from this and no doubt will feel no guilt for being on the "right" side of history!

If you too find it wonderful to hear Andrew speak, then I highly recommend the audio version of his book 'The New Puritans', as he reads it himself. Comedy Unleashed (in both London and Leeds) is a brilliant night out. It's great that they platform so many cancelled comedians, but such a shame that they can't extend that same grace to Katie Hopkins who is consistently having venues cancel on her, following the slightest bit of pressure from activitists.

Andrew, Time for plan B - A new venue called Edinburgh CANCELLED, it'd be a sell-out and a bastion of real INCLUSIVENESS. With my own staffing and security.

I am sick of people thinking everyone is moronic. We all have minds of our own (or did have) and if we don’t like what’s being offered we just don’t go. I personally am wary about some stand up comedy as being a woman in my eighties it can get a bit smutty for my taste; I love the “Carry On” type of comedy where everything has two meanings and you can take it how you like. However, I don’t think anything should be cancelled as we all have a choice.

Gee! Can you imagine everyone thinking the same, finding the same thing funny, liking the same music, same art, same clothes etc! This is where it seems we are going! Can you imagine! Oh right we don’t have to imagine just read the book called 1984 before they re write it!!

I do genuinely get why people baulk at some of the things Glinner says - I think he can be overly emotive and often uses the words groomer and pedo too liberally - but you have to remember that hes up against a movement that borderline stalks him, took his career, calls gay people nazis...all because we know Men are not Women. I understand why he goes all in sometimes. I'd have had a nervous breakdown by now if I were in his shoes. I have so much admiration for him, and I hope he gets to sue their dicks off.

Presumably what an Edinburgh Fringe Venue means when it says that it is an "Inclusive Venue" is that Isla Bryson AKA Adam Graham is quite literally free to "use the ladies" on their premises.......YIKES!!!

Spectator TV could host the show. Get a nice little startup going for online entertainment (in addition to their usual journalistic fare). There’s a gap in the market for free thinking and speaking comedy.

Edinburgh Clowncil now hate tourists and the Festival. Their objective is to restrict tourists and reduce the Fringe massively. But at least the have a tram that runs down to Leith every 7 minutes. Really useful.

I'm an American woman who wouldn't otherwise have heard of Andrew Doyle, Graham Linehan or Comedy Unleashed had I not been a Triggernometry subscriber. Living too far away, I've never been to The Fringe, but it seemed like it would be...fringe, so that meant to me it wouldn't be bland. Curious about the fuss, I tried to find a video of Graham Linehan, and all I could find was someone's video of snippets of his Fringe show at the side of a road with background sirens. He still got a warm reception, but I would've liked to have heard more of it. So, the lesson is that he can speak on the fringe of the Fringe, but that doesn't mean he'll get to be heard.

I'm not that familiar with Mary Whitehouse (just had a look at her wiki). Perhaps, if the British public had heeded her warning, they wouldn't have the widespread degeneracy, as well as tolerance for only degenerate things, they now have. They've canceled wholesomeness.

The people who got this show cancelled are fascists. True comedy is dying the death of a thousand cuts as true comedians are cancelled and replaced by an "ersatz" brand of comedy that is about as funny as a dead kitten. It's good that another venue has been found, however, and I hope they add Roy "Chubby" Brown to the line-up.

What should be cancelled, is my taxes being used to deform teenagers.
