Drawing isnt about style or accuracy, is about intended expression So if ur able to make cartoons with specific intended characteristics through shapes, movement and emotions: ur good at drawing. No u might not be good at drawing life-like, photgraphic or mimicing natural light, but that is just another drawing style. Like a guitar player sux at piano, but is really good at playing the guitar. So u are a good artist, in your own artform which in this case is the cartoon-style. Others really suck at that, and is "only" able to draw photgraphic and anathomical correct drawings, but that doesnt make them good cartoonist does it? So dont worry. Just be confident to be good at what u do best, rather than worrying about that ur not talented in something somebody else does best. Most if us cant be the best in everything anyway
JUST GIVE ME ONE WITH COLOUR DROP. After moving to android, I'm finding it kinda hard to remember to use the 'fill' tool, rather than just grabbing from the colour picker.
I use Ibis paintx on my 5" Android phone..... And now I started getting commissions ☝️😂😂 Edit- Now I don't draw digitally.. I am working on my sketching art.
I use medibang because its the program I use on my computer to do all my art, but I love it more because of its cloud. I can start a drawing when I'm out with my tablet, save it into the cloud and continue it at home; that's why it's my go-to app/program. I wanted to give sketchbook a chance, but the mandatory sign-in was a turn off for me. I don't always have a connection on my tablet when I'm out, so I can't do any work on it.
Fun fact, I was the one who pushed the Artflow developer to add customizable pressure sensitivity to size, opacity and flow settings of the brushes (instead of one-for-all sensitivity setting). Last time I checked, it was developed by a single person. It's a very nice app, and if I still had an Android tablet, I'd definitely use it as my main app.
You kinda missed the most important part of concepts: infinite canvas, which is great for coming up with concepts and ideas and practicing drawing . Also auto layers for brushes. Ipad version has streamline function, i guess maybe they haven't put it into Android version yet
Agreed. The smoothing feature is on android as well, right there in the tool wheel. I think Brad just missed it. (You can also adjust smoothing after lines are drawn.)
Been using Infinite painter for 3 years now, and it has great features, and developer (Sean) is super aproachable and eager to listen if you have some problems with the app. We had a great little community when the discussion for Infinite Painter was on Google + before they shut it down :( Anyways, if you dig a little deeper it has some amazing options: great selection tools, great perspective tools, color adjusting tools and filters with very advanced means of application (i will just say for example : adjustable bokeh with lets say... adjustable tilt shift focus - havent seen something like that even in photoshop). Also brush engine is just something else compared to other programs and i like that out-of-the-box every brush can be used as a blender.
I'm currently using Ibis Paint and I won't lie it's amazing Like You can change the layers invert or put on another layer You can save a brush and import one You can Change the way your brush will come out as You have a lot of options like Filters Magic Wand and yeah
Those features also Medibang has but the UI of IbisPaint is better But yeah the filters are fun and nice But using mask layer in Medibang for texture is my favourite thing
Great list. I do wish these phone apps would make a pen tool similar to that of Adobe Illustrator. Having the ability to create and edit anchor points is a must for me.
You can connect some Android tablets (Samsung Tab S7, S7+) to Windows using Second Screen/Win+K Cast , meaning you can use your Android tablet as a Windows tablet and use full-blown desktop software. A really nice and underrated feature for getting stylus support on full-blown software with no compromises.
Another great video as usual! I would love to see a new video with the android apps for artists and it would be cool if you include apps for sculpting, a pure ref type of app if there is one for Android etc. Thanks for being the only one that makes videos like this one!
This was helpfull! Thanks! Just bought a tab6 lite today. Installed half of the apps on your list to fiddle around with. Thanks for the vid. It saved me hours, maybe days to figure out what to look for.
Thank you so much for this. Just picked up my s6 lite based on your review and I'm really enjoying artflow. I'm used to photoshop and my Wacom bamboo, but I'm having so much more fun with this s6. Always hated that pc drawing tablet disconnect. Thanks again!
I love your videos Brad. I am new to drawing and art, and my channel is only small now, but I really feel like your videos are helping me grow. I'm sure you know, but your videos are fun, to the point, very informative and an absolute pleasure to watch. Keep up the great work, hopefully I'll be as good as you at drawing and making videos one day! Thanks for your effort 👌 😃
this is an old video so you'll probably never read this. But I just wanna say I really appreciate you making these videos for people who like art. thank you :)
@Brad, one big difference between all the tools you presented and Concepts, is that Concepts is not raster, but a vector tool that has instantly renders the brushes to the required raster-style to look like a raster, but you can scale to the level you want without losing resoltion.
And you forget to mention VERY important think my friend - The Concepts App is actually A VECTOR app. All designs can be exported as SVG or PDF with all vector layers which can be opened and which are fully editable in Adobe Illustrator. For example - I'm using Concepts while I want to work off my office, in worm sofa in living room. After I finished design I can go back to office and continue with PC and Illustrator. The Concepts App contain infinity artboard, infinity scaling of vector elements so there is no pixels ofc. All tools have a "smooth" scale which correct lines to be natural and beautiful. For a price about 15$ (that's one time purchase without subscribe) you can have powerful VECTOR app for Android, without opening bug like in Inifite Painter (which is also a vector app). It's so worth it! :)
I personally love Ibis paint X I'm already used to all the features Ibis has making it hard to use other software's, I'm on mobile so a few softwares aren't available. The brushes are customizable and it kinda free
I used to draw on autodesk sketchbook but after trying infinite painter I realised that it is really smooth and sketchbook feels laggy now.. Even Brad said that on his last android apps for drawing video...
@@mihalyincze91 It's been few days sence I started drowing on art flow an the experience is great It is definitely the best app in android for drawing Thanks for your suggestion..
The pinch in and out on autodesk doesn't feels as affective as infinite painter or artflow and it also takes noticeable response time after drawing a line to me
You can add pictures on I ibis is when you click on' Layers' and to the left you can see a camera on the bottom ,you click it and you can add your picture. Have a great day keep up the good work!
I use a mix of the Ibis Paint and MediBang apps. Like for Ibis, I use it for sketching while I use MediBang for line art and details, and I switch back to Ibis Paint for some finishing touches.
Everyone keeps asking but Brad didn't pin a reply up top, so I'm repeating it. He answered it a while back. He used Galaxy Tab S4 and S6 on this video. The pen stylus which he couldn't remember is the Wacom Bamboo Smart Stylus. Brad should put the names of different hardware and apps he uses in the description. It would prevent a lot of obvious questions. Then again, a lot of people don't even read the description, much less read the full text posted. Or read all the comments to see if the question has already been answered.
Unfortunately Artflow doesn't have perspective modes 😧 it's what got me hooked into Infinite Painter, having the most easy settings for perspectives. It has an amazing array of customization for layer blending though (the extra "effects" tab no other apps had).
I use ibispaint but I clicked on this video to check out other options as I'm looking to get a drawing tablet for Christmas and want to see the ones artist recommend
I'm glad I saw the potential in artflow back when it was new and purchased it. I'm proud to say that it is my number 1 drawing app along with sketchbook. It's almost as great for sketching as procreate in my opinion
I'm about to get my first screen drawing tablet (been using a $70 huion for a few years) and I think I'll get ibis and autodesk because I've used both of them before (on a phone and laptop). BTW It's a Tab S6 Lite and you really helped me decide with your reviews! I love all your videos and find myself watching them over and over again! EDIT: I also might get clip studio as well
I really like Artflow, it does have a "secret" gesture that's very useful though many might not know, when in full screen just tap top left corner once to undo, and bottom righy to redo.
@@animedrips Yes, stability wise this is the best, it works so smoothly and never crashed. Unlike Infinite Painter, that has a lot of features but very unstable.
@@fihrilkamal7296 yes infinite painter is one of the most unstable apps...Yesterday I changed from infinite painter to sketchbook to finish my illustration cause I had issues with the eraser and lots of other bugs that made the app quite unusable. The onlu issue I've faced with artflow is that sometimes doesn't recognise pro license...
IbisPaint is my favourite yet. It's the first I once got i think and it's still the best for me. There is a premium membership that gives you additional premium... backgrounds and filters, but you can get along really good without it.
I draw pixel art on my Android tablet using the free app Pixely. I love this app because of all the profesional features such as transparent layers, select tools with copy and paste, sprite animation with sprite sheet export, real time image tiling and reference images.
Thank you. Seriously and sarcastically. Sarcastically, because you've done SO many videos that, even speeding you up to 1.5x, still gonna take me the whole weekend to go through all that I NEED to see, and I enjoy your YT style and there's always something I learn even with products that I'll probably never use. Looking at you, "Apple" (pronounced with such disdain I that it sounds more like an obscenity. That said, I never got why people have to put a tool down just because. And I'm old enough to remember and used aldus and macromedia and...Bob. What especially thank you for with this rundown of apps is... Superbrush. Ever since I first used a remote desktop app 20 years ago and in recent years the advent of so many tablets and convertibles with digitizers and pressure sensitive styluses... it's always apparently been too much to ask to have passthrough of pressure data. At least on windows. (And yeah, I get that's a lot of data and I'm definitely niche. And the irony is I have a note 10 lite, and a Chromebook tablet and a Chromebook convertible with USI support and can't draw to save my life. lol So bad, that I used to use Illustrator to do sketches, because it was that much quicker for me to convey an idea.L Just wanted to say thank you cuz I had no idea that something like superbrush even existed and chances are I never would have known without hearing it from you. Sorry for the rambling. (Contemplating redacting everything and just saying "Thanks, have a good day" but... lol) I'm just glad when something I subscribed to your channel a month or so ago because of some video or else I probably wouldn't ever remembered. Keep up the great work!
The reason I switched from art flow to infinite painter was the fill tool on infinite painter. I also wanted the shape recognition the infinite painter has. Are those available on artflow?
in this kind of video it's be cool to keep the name of the app you're currently using written on screen, also adding youtube chapters would be a nice touch
On Art flow, if you double tap on the screen, it will re-adjust the drawing to its original spot. I also have realized if you take you stylus along the left side, you can easily control the thickness of your brush size. Personally, I use art flow on my amazon kindle fire, and the main downside is that it won't let me rotate my canvas and it don't let me use the paint bucket (and yes, my lines have been fully closed). For Xmas, I asked my parents for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite tablet so I can get apps that work better. In the past, I have used ibis paint X and it has been amazing. I just really wish with art flow I was able to rotate my canvas and fill in shapes quicker and easier. If anyone has any tips, that would help me a lot.
I use Autodesk Sketchbook in my tablet and it's really good. The only thing I don't like about it, is that you can't select a biggest canvas than 2000×4000 (that's approximately the numbers 😅) and I'm searching for an app so I can make my drawings in like 8000+
If procreate or the pocket version just have an android version it would be great, and many people wouldn't have to spend money to have an apple product which procreate is exclusively made. Wish they made version for android
I've been planning to up some of the tech in my life for a while now, so I started looking up reviews on apps and tablets. Your videos have helped me make my decisions a lot easier. Thank you.
How to import your sketch: go to layers and press the camera button and you need a picture of your sketch beforehand but pick your sketch and boom you're done.
Finally someone talk about artflow I have been using it for 3 years on my phone for free without a stylus. This app is great although i used it for free i can still work my way around it n create decent art work. I tried the others but i just can't change.
i have been using sketchbook for 1 month now and i am so use to it that it's hard to think of other apps but after watching this video i used artflow and infinite painter and they are amazing if you buy those in-app purchase (but those are not even more than 300INR or 3$ as brad said it's worth spending) if u are in for paper realistic sketch work try sketchbook if you are going to draw something that has fine rigid shapes go for artflow but i am more interested in magic wand feature which is in artflow
Thx, this helped me make my decision on what to puchase. Needed something for my note 10 plus as well.👍

Nice list! Always cool to see more options for creative apps on Android :) I love Concepts for sketching on the iPad (I choose Procreate or Affinity for any polished work, but I love that Concepts is all vector for quickly trying stuff) It's actually quite easy to tweak the "streamlining/stabilisation" on the brushes... I see you had it at 0% while you complained about that but you can change it to whatever you want tapping on the squiggly line in the center left of the toolbar! I agree on the color picker... As cool as it looks I would love to have a more traditional option... Just as normal nodes for modifying the lines instead of their pushy thingy
I've tried most of the apps and have stayed with ibisPaintX for many years. In my opinion there is nothing better. I use it to draw on the Galaxy Note 4, or more recently, on the Galaxy Note 10 Plus.
I use ibis on my phone, and when I got a tablet with a stylus I switched to medibang just because it got palm reject (correct me if im wrong). thanks for this vid discovered more apps to try
✨Ibis Paint X✨ few things you need to know- •You can set up pressure sensitivity for basically any stylus -example- Apple Pen, Sonarpen. •Has a whole youtube channel basses for tutorials! •The none free version is only $7.99!! very cheap for a great app •Its worked amazing for years! I've been using it for 2 or 3 years now! •You can use to fingers to undo! •You can import custom brushes
Regarding Artflow: if someone happens to have a keyboard handy they can type META + / to see a very long list of supported keyboard shortcuts. Including, of course, CTRL + z to undo.
concepts is very beautiful actually..the line smoothing is perfect, like in procreate..but no image manipulation like select, snap etc..but their ipad version is more loaded and developed
everyone talking about Ibis paint but can we appreciate medibang with their customizable brushes, layers, and the fact you can finish any piece of any device-
Concepts is an odd app. I personally like it and intend to move to it once I have gotten a little better. But my main interest is also concept art / architectural sketching which is where Concepts really shines. As for your issues, there's the feature in the middle of the colour wheel where you can decie amount of line smoothing. And concepts has the ability to buy everything seperately, though you are missing some sync features and will be paying about 1.5x the yearly cost if you want to unlock everything.
I'm still the biggest fan of Autodesk Sketchbook. Something about the clean interface, smooth drawing, tons of brushes, and copic colors really does it for me. Everytime I switch to a different app, it's just okay, but I don't find it doing anything better than Sketchbook.
I'm sketcbook user too and even if the app missing basic features like clipping masks or dpi settings I can't change to another app. I hope developers will add new features cause I think that's one of the greatest android drawing apps!!
Now, wait just a darn minute Brad :), you just skimmed over Superbrush and this is the first time I hear of it and it seems like kind of a big deal. I have an older note 10.1 2014 which has a great screen but older android 5.1, and would like to try it but the app is a little pricy on play store (25 bucks) and no way to try it out and developer seems to be one guy (not a bad thing, am just worried about continuous support). Tell me more Brad, please, is it usable as a poor mans cintiq replacement, what apps you tried, how does it "feel" ? Love the videos, keep it up.
what stylus is that? it looks like you are using a tab s6, which I have and love for the amount of power it has and its 8gb of ram. But not too much of a fan of the stylus shape
I still using MedibangPaint, for me it's the best experience so far. I used to it in my old Android Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 erdition and no learning curve was necessary when I came to iPad last year.
