Their mother said that when Andy was born, it was like she'd given birth to her first son again. They even had the same birthmarks. They were more alike than the twins.
I love my Gibb boys!! Andy was my first crush at 12 years old, and my first concert ever. I have listened to these guys for 45 years. Andy, will always have a special place in my heart.
He can sing falsetto too! Yes they co wrote and produced this for him. As he got older he looked more and more like Barry. This was one of his #1 chart toppers.
Every time I see beautiful Andy sing...my heart breaks again. I was 10 yrs old when this wonderful song came out & had such a huge crush on him & his music until the day he died in 1988. So missed & never forgotten. :'-(
Andy had a string of Hit Top Ten Singles. 3 of them #1 songs for him. This was his biggest #1..spending 7 weeks at the Top. All written by older brother Barry Gibb.🎵🎶🎶🇨🇦🇨🇦
I’m secretly in love with Andy. He’s adorable and so sweet. Look up “For So Long” and “Suddenly” with our beloved beautiful Olivia Newton John. RIP Aussies will always remember you in our hearts
My older cousin introduced me to great music from a young age. I was about 10 yrs old when she bought Andy's new single "I just want to be your everything" & she had me come over to hear it. She played it over & over on a constant loop, until we both had the lyrics memorized. I just turned 55 on Tuesday (Apr 5) & I still know every word of that song & "Shadow Dancing". Those two songs have been burned into my long term memory, so I'll still be able to sing it verbatim when I'm in my 80's or 90's... if my body lasts that long - LOL! I'm so glad more people are starting to discover the music of the "baby Bee Gee" brother. Even though Andy was 12 years younger than Barry (the oldest), they could have been twins. They share very similar facial features & vocal sound. Barry & Andy looked more like twins than the actual fraternal twins, Robin & Maurice did - LOL! Andy is the baby of the family & he was still little when his older brothers hit it big on the music charts back in the 1960's. With the help of his brothers, Andy embarked upon a solo career, which he was very successful at, even in the short amount of time he created music. He put out a few albums, appeared on many TV shows, & also hosted a variety show called SOLID GOLD that did weekly countdowns of the most popular songs of the time. On occasion, he joined The Bee Gees while on their concert tours or TV specials. Sadly, he died just a few days past his 30th birthday (1988) from a heart condition, which was greatly exacerbated by years of alcohol & drug use. He was the youngest, but the first to pass away. Then twin #1 Maurice died in 2003, followed by the other twin, Robin in 2012. Barry, the oldest boy and his sister, Leslie (first born) are the last two surviving Gibb siblings left...
I'm still shocked by the similarity between Barry and Andy. I grew up in the disco age and loved the Bee Gees (Saturday Night Fever) but I still too young to really get into them as a group. But when Andy came around wow! We were all smitten!! I had no idea how much they were alike and I never saw the young Barry sing, but now that I have I can't believe it! They are more twins than the actual twins (Robin and Maurice)! Great reaction! Thanks!
he sounded a lot like Barry, looked like a mixture of Barry and Robin and was likeable and gregarious like Maurice. And Andy was very talented, you should check the youtube videos of Solid Gold where he sings very different styles and kills it every time. Such an incredible loss
Andy still holds the record to this day, first 3 songs released went to #1...and before he was 21. Too much fame too young. He so wanted out of the shadow of his brothers but it never happened. RIP Andy.
Great reaction. You'd love Everlasting Love by Andy Gibb and, of course, the Bee Gees. Fun fact: the brothers wrote Too much Heaven, Tragedy during one day and then that night wrote Shadow Dancing. One and only Bee Gees!
I saw him In Concert when I was 9. I was obsessed . I stood on the seat and screamed like everyone else was . Lol my parents just sat there. My friend and I went home be played his 45’s all night . He passed soon after
It's just beautiful what music can do for us. The Bee Gees always had great talent. Andy was a star himself. Barry has always said that him and Andy were as much like twins as Maurice and Robin. Love the Bee Gees. You are a great reactor!!! Enjoy your reactions so very much.
Amen! I was one of the teenage girls that was crazy about Andy Gibb when this song came out. Such a sad loss. You might want to check out his other hit song, "I Just Want to be Your Everything".
I'm SO happy you enjoyed this song and artist! It is a testament to The Brothers Gibb that their music production and talent stand the test of time and culture; this song sounds just as fresh and exciting in 2022 as it did when we first heard it released. I love your exuberance and spontaneity as you get up to groove to 70's Groove and Disco. The Bee Gees WERE the sound of the '70's.
Andy Gibb was my first concert. I was 8 and I played this album nonstop. Luckily my mom liked him too and took me and my bestie to the concert. She took us to see the Bee Gees for our second concert, I think it was later that same year. RIP mom and Andy.
That pre chorus Barry falsetto is perfect. Andy’s great but that single line before the chorus is heaven. Elevates it to a superb, underrated Gibb song.
First solo artist whose first 3 releases went to #1. I don’t know if anyone ever beat that record. Also the only artist to knock a family member from #1. This family has so many unbeaten accomplishments.
Andy and Barry sound very close. Barry wrote a lot of songs for him, but he did write music too. The Bee Gees sang back up vocals on his albums. I think Barry produced Andy's albums. The family really wanted to see him succeed obviously. Andy was very talented and it's a shame he passed so young. If you want more good Andy songs: I Just Want To Be Your Everything, An Everlasting Love, Flowing Rivers, (Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away, (Love Is) Thicker Than Water, After Dark, Desire, Wherever You Are, One More Look At The Night
This sounds very much like Grease, I've only just found out Barry Gibb wrote Greas e for the Movie Grease soundtrack. Harry, you ought to listen to the Bee Gees singing Grease..
You should also check out his songs (in this order) "I Just Want to be Your Everything, "Love Is Thicker Than Water," "Don't Throw it All Away," "Everlasting Love" and "Desire."
Great reaction! Andy’s voice has its own special quality - a sort of gravely sound - that makes it distinguishable from Barry’s, so it is obvious when Barry comes in with him. His first single was I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING. When you react, skip the Midnight Special appearance - the quality and back up singers are off. Either the studio version or (my favorite) his live performance on DON KERSHNER'S ROCK SHOW. It’s PERFECT!! His set that night included songs from his newly released first album, including his second #1hit (LOVE IS) THICKER THAN WATER, and 2 or 4 songs he wrote and recorded without Barry. You will see the new, pure talent that only a live performance can show, including playing guitar, which he did from age 13 fronting bands in clubs. Be sure to react to his song FLOWING RIVERS and STARLIGHT to really see and hear his personal - less commercialized - style. Every song in the set is perfection!!
Andy was my favorite of the brother's Gibb. Barry pfffttt. Andy was talented in his own right no one can take that from him. Barry broke Andy's heart he said out of his own mouth that he was not on good terms with Andy when he died. Don't treat people in an ugly way then cry when they pass away. I never compare Andy to Barry. Barry is no saint and neither was Andy he never blamed anyo ne for his mistakes rest easy Andy xoxoxoxo
Andy debuted with three straight #1 hits, including this one. The Bee Gees were red hot at the time and any connection to them was successful. Barry wrote Andy's songs and he really sounded like an extension of the group. He was just 18 or 19 here.
No, they showed a picture of After Dark at the end of the performance and his hair was straight in the back. That was how he wore it in 1980 so he was around 22 here. That was when his addiction was really a problem because After Dark was mostly sung by Barry with Andy's, weakened, voice mixed in.
Yeah, I was just thinking about the years ('77-'78) his first three hits came out, making a point about how very young he was. I didn't see any mention of a year for the performance and didn't stick around to see the album at the end. Turns out this was from the first season of the "Solid Gold" TV show in the fall of 1980.
Hi Harry, loved your reaction to this song. Fun fact: Barry was the only one singing with Andy on this song. Barry was great at harmonizing with himself. He had such a great sound. Check out Andy's other hit songs.
I love your reaction. Barry once said that Andy was just as much his twin separated by 12 years as Maurice an Robin were twins. He, himself said that Andy looked and sounded just like him and they had matching birth marks.
Teen heart throb. I remember my sis had a famous poster on our bedroom wall of him. It was the male one like Farrah had. I had one of Shawn cassidy, David Cassidy of the partridge family's brother Shawn sang. And of course there was the Scott bayo poster he played on Happy Days.
It's so wonderful to see your reaction to this song. I was in my 20's when this was released, and it was a massive hit. I take all these Bee Gees songs for granted, they're part of my musical DNA but it gives me such pleasure to be able to witness such loving reactions to them. As the Pet Shop Boys have said, music goes on and on and on and on.
No one is as good as the Gibb bros. My son was 2 yrs. old when the"One Night Only" album came out and the TV special they did. We got him the Video & he played it every day all day. He is 25 now. And he still says they are the best ever. Btw my son his an amazing drummer now.
Another fact is that Shadow Dancing went on to become the 1978 year end number 1 on Billboards top 100 list. It is funnyt to bear in mind that the same year Night Fever was number 2, Stayin' Alive was number 4, How Deep Is You Love Was Number 6, (Love Is) Thicker Than Water (Andy Gibb) was number 8, Grease (Frankie Valli) was number 11, Emotion (Samantha Sang) was number 14, If I Can't Have You (Yvonne Elliman) was number 19 and lastely An Everlasting Love (Andy Gibb) was number 45. Those where the artist are in () was all written by one or more of the brothers. So the Gibbs dominated that charts that year but eventhough the songs from SNF is on this list Shadow Dancing came out on top anyway.
Barry, Robin & Maurice started in 1955 (as The Rattlesnakes). They became the Bee Gee's in 1958 (the year Andy was born). By the time Andy was 10, the Bee Gees were already internationally known. They were all very supportive of Andy’s career. Barry wrote, co-produced & sang back-up on Andy’s 1st #1 hit, I Just Want To Be Your Everything. Shadow Dancing, another #1, was written by all 4 brothers (again Barry sang back up & co-produced). Sadly, Andy’s drug addiction took a terrible toll on his health & career (he was even dropped by his label), but his brothers kept trying to help. Early 1988, they announced he would become a Bee Gee, beginning with their next tour (I think it was scheduled for 1989), but he died March 10, 1988, before it could happen.
