● Little compilation of funny interviews of Andy Roddick. I've tried to add only the funny and class speeches which are not very known by most of people.
@@oldmansinginlove3808 oh fuck off. This guy has been working his ass off, gave his best , didnt succeed and still finds the encouragement to be chill and joke around.
He does occasionally. I had the chance of hearing him commentate, I think it was during one Wimbledon for the BBC. He got incredibly technical and was overly serious about everything. Some people were put off by the seriousness, but I was in love with that tennis-geekiness. That's what Andy is, a tennis geek.
leiya107 Because he’s a tennis player, and I bet those other commentators were not. You can tell the difference with the broadcasters, who knows the game, and who doesn’t.
Most commentators in English-speaking media are former tennis players (and an Andrew Castle, that's an inside joke for those who have access to BBC coverage): we frequently have Boris Becker, Jim Courier, Johnny Mac, Tim Henman, Lindsay Daveport, Kim Clijsters, Marion Bartoli, also people like Mats Wilander on Eurosport... I would still say Andy Roddick gets the most technical and serious (but not without his humour). But I actually love the Jason Goodall/Robbie Koenig duo the most. Too bad I can't afford Tennis TV subscription...
leiya107 Thanks for the insight. So why they were so put-off by commentary if they were tennis players themselves? I wonder did he just upstaged them a bit.
@MUFC No it wont. soccer is boring af. its popular world wide because of the accessibility to poor people (just need a ball). Hockey is easily the best sport on earth but way less popular because of all the necessary equipment and ice. Watch a hockey game and tell me that's not a thousand times more exciting that soccer.
He's quite skilled with his 'Dead Pan' dry and self deprecating humour! And he didn't win the U.S open by chance and reach other finals, but unfortunately he was coming up against some of the best players who have ever played the game! .But he's been a credit to himself& for the game in general! ..All Sports have winners, but not necessarily character's and individuals who connect with the the fans( and that is a integral component of Sports, because without them they're playing to empty stadiums and arena's ) .. But unfortunately sometimes that aspect of their personalities is neglected!
When you see Roddick, you might think he is some stereotypical american jock. When you get to know Roddick, you realize he is anything but. A very smart and sensitive guy, often consumed with self doubt and, as can be witnessed in this video, a stand up guy, whose praises were genuine and heartfelt, not the empty wooden formula most players use. Great guy. Not a bad tennis player too :)
Far from the best players of that era,but my fav for the only reason he lacked that sportsmen arrogance in interviews and always looking at the funny side regardless if he is winning or losing."Win at any cost " players are turn offs in any sport
Absolutely. Married to a hot model, seems like a jock. Would be easy to write him off as that. But in reality he’s such an intelligent and introspective person, and you really don’t get many truly genuine people in the spotlight anymore. His tennis was frustratingly inconsistent at times, but I never regretted being his fan.
What do you mean by not a bad player???? He is former world no 1 and probably the last north American player to reach no 1 till now. Won US open , reach Wimbledon final three times. He is probably the last American male who is so successful in grandslams. Don't judge every tennis player on Federer or Nadal parameter.
That's not true at all, Rafael is fluent in English, even doing his first English interviews as far back as his 1st year winning the French Open as a teen. It's only gotten better over time.
In the old days the players were too antagonistic to make light-hearted jokes. The current generation is too polite and afraid to take a chance of offending anyone. Andy hit that perfect sweet spot in-between eras where his sense of humor could shine.
I know right?! I feel really bad for Roddick. Dated lots of beautiful women, married a super model, traveled the world, had a stressful career of playing a game, and only made millions of dollars for it all. Poor guy.
I know what you mean... I remember watching that match. I think it was 3rd time lucky for him... and it went on for a very long time... But he didn't win. He was so focused, did everything right... but he didn't win. I was gutted. I respect RF, but I really wanted Andy to win that match. I said to myself, Andy, there is always next year. Of course, there was no re-match. To this day, I still regard the 2009 Wimbledon final as the one that got away for Andy... just like the Semi-final of Tim Henman against Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.
@@JulianSirian if he had a better volley and BH approach shot he would've won. I'm suprised a guy with a mega serve didn't work all day on his net game to back it up. And he should've developed a deep low slice BH to stay inches off the grass and pounce on the net. His huge serve kept him in the match w RF but you can't beat RF trading shots unless you're Rafa or Djok when they're really on.
I think u got it wrong... If it wasnt for roger, not complaining the fact that the American officials were doing everything to ensure Andy got his schedule cleared of problems, while roger and the rest had to wait like... Like they had two more matches to finish in the second week of that one lone slam USO that Andy won
Roddick was a real gentleman, you can see clearly how he is a humble person...I think he is really smart, like that kind of people that whatever they do, are really good. Classy, funny, always a good atittude. Nice person. He hasn't received the credit he deserves only for being in the same era of the BIG 4.
I wish Andy could have won more Grand Slams. The hard work, dedication and heart he brought to every match was felt by his opponents as well as the spectators. One of the best to ever play the game regardless of GS count.
He was one of the poster boys for new tennis when he broke into the scene. But all of a sudden he became old fashioned and just couldn't keep up with the Rogers and Rafas. Some people say he was not very good to start with, but I love his style. Miss watching him play.
leiya107 Not very good? With 32 titles, world no.1 ranking (top five for at least a decade), and grand slam defeats against the greatest player of all time??? Best American to play tennis in the past 15 years? Have some respect please.
If you read carefully, I mentioned *some people* say he was not very good to start with, and I personally love his style and that I miss watching him play. I'm clearly not one of the "some people". But I respect people with varying levels of reading difficulty.
Roger, Andy, Marat, Hewitt, Ferrero all winning slams in their early 20s, and wow the peronalities they have. Loved the newball guys. Such a charismatic generation.
Burning Zeal high expectations from fans is what I think has made the players boring these days IMO. I no longer see that humour on court all serious and about winning. And same in comment section all about goat debates.
Never takes himself seriously Roddick! And that’s just extremely endearing. That 16-14 final set was a tough tough loss. And for him to still keep his sense of humor even after such an emotionally draining experience was pure class! Federer couldn’t show such class in his Aus Open loss to Rafa
There's a brilliant one where Roger is talking and acknowledges Andy (runner up), and says he knows how hard it is to be in the runners up chair and Andy quips 'Yea, but you'd already won 5 of them...' or something like that. What a gem this guy is, haha
Andy was one of a kind, came from a rich USA family, had the best of the best training him, had anything he ever wanted, yet was still able to show sportsmanship. I'm saying this because most of the time the United states produces the best of the best, and in Soccer and Tennis we don't. However I feel like despite him having everything handed to him, he still respected everyone that beat him.
Absolutely love this guy. When I first started watching him I was a bit put off by his on-court aggressiveness and swagger, but quickly learned that he has such a great personality!
I miss Andy. I use to listen to his weekend radio show and he was a natural with the mike. He will always be remembered as coming off the losing end of majors with Fed. Despite of this they are still friends. Great guy and extremely bright. Wish he didn't retire as early as he did.
He was great behind the microphone. Even though he didn't win Wimbledon, maybe in the future, he'll realize that he accomplished more than many many many others couldn't by playing in a Wimbledon final. That's a huge accomplishment. Glad he won one Grand Slam final! He should be very proud of that.
After he lost at WImbledon to Federer, the interviewer started a question by referencing this "rivalry" between the two.. Roddick cut her off saying.."Rivalry....yeah, maybe one day I'll win one.." Pretty funny...
And Novak would be on like 30 slams by now without Federer, Nadal or Murray....Federer would be on 30 without Novak & Nadal....Nadal would be on 30 without Federer or Novak.....Murray is multiple Wimbledon winner and has also won the only slam Roddick won but Murray also has 2 Olympic gold's and 8 time runner up in slams despite playing the whole time during the prime of Federer, Nadal & Novak.....Spot the difference? Pointless argument. 2009 Wimbledon Roddick wasn't as unlucky as Nadal given he was the best player in the world at the time and wasn't able to defend his Wimbledon title because of injury, besides Roddick had many lucky wins on route to the final that year vs Melzer, Hewitt & Murray. You could also say Roddick wouldn't have even been a pro without his serve weapon. He massively underachieved, end of story.
CD DB right but I think the fact he hit PRIME Roger is the biggest thing. Roger had glimpses of greatness once Novak got great, but nothing sustainable. Rafa I would say saw some years of prime Fed, but Rafa was still primarily a clay court player. Roddick was stuck with just about all of prime Fed and then others came along as well.
Total class act!! Hes humble and extremely talented, and he never critiques his opponent or tries bringing them down with insults. He acknowledges his opponents skills when he wins and admits the short comings that led to defeat when he loses, he never makes excuses to take away his opponents victory. Hes my favorite player ever
Pete’s, Agassi’s, Marat’s and Andy’s retirements hit me in the feels. Someone send help when our wonderful Big 3 do the same, I won’t be handling those so well 😭😭😭. Well made video, he always had something ready to say until his final time!
I really love you Andy! You, Jimmie Connors, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, And and probably a few others that I can't name right now few others are the greatest American players I have had the privilege to watch! Don't ever forget that many, many of us loved watching you! You really were and continue to be awesome! As an individual who is now 49 years old, I know what it's like to have it yet difficult and more difficult to prove everything you always were. Let me let you know that I will acknowledge you as one of the greatest American tennis players I have ever seen. Congratulations! And thank you for letting me watch you! You are great, and entertaining! Some of the greatest tennis players of all time were not both sponge and point you were.
It would have took me too much time to add subtitles for those who don't understand english very well, so I'm sorry for that. But the tribute comes very soon ;D
