Yes, what I love about Angelina as a person, rather than a singer, is how consistently she respects the original artists and always includes clear notes and phrases to shows that tribute. And as a singer, she is, simply and clearly, the best I’ve ever heard. She is fearless in giving us classic songs in styles we’ve never imagined. And she consistently knocks it out of the park by choosing a style and voice that complement the song rather than returning to what worked so well for her in the past. Like you, I hear that Angelina has a new release and I can’t wait to hear how she will Angelina-ize it into something I can’t imagine, but know will knock me out. And despite the jazziness of Billie Jean with all Angelina’s vocalizations, runs, hums, and riffs, she makes us understand the lyrics 100%-and that’s something I never took away from Michael’s great pop version. This is an instant classic.

The original song co-produced by Quincy Jones, who not only invited Angelina to sing for him on his 85th birthday, but then declared she was the best since Michael Jackson 💯👏👌

Listening to her is like breathing, just something you have to have. It's not only her voice, but the arrangement is awesome. It just relaxes you. So mellow. Also the piano volume is perfect, without interfering with her vocals. I also love how it seems like she is talking to you directly, not singing.

Angelina really laid back here - in her element. She shows respect to the original MJ version, but adds so much texture and brings out the lyrics, we feel the story. The scene changes give the visual dynamic, where MJ is into the footwork, AJ dances with her voice!

Even though her music makes such an impact on us emotionally, she is so smooth and effortless in her singing that it is easy to discount how much talent and skill is involved. I have heard quite a few singers try to cover her songs or arrangements and they utterly fail to copy all the embellishments and subtle touches or leave them out entirely.

I always enjoy your thoughtful and illuminating commentaries/reactions. I agree that Angelina pays homage to MJ's original in several ways here (phrasing, timbre sometimes, etc.) as she almost always does in her covers. But I think maybe there is a bit of a statement here as well. She is just sitting (no dancing or movement but in complete control) before monochromatic sets that say "listen, don't watch", and with her free arm remaining relaxed and quiet (no gestures, certainly no glove). There were not even any close-ups of her face as she sings. All these elements together say, in Angelina's sweet way, that she is intending (that she is arriving) to take territory with just her music and style, no gimmicks or supplemental fireworks. Her impact is explosive though her manner rarely is. Just my two cents.

There is an Angelina explosin on the way, there is no way to hide this amount of talent from the world, the fuse is lit IMHO. The answer is no? Angelina will have to deal with jealousy, already has, from some reactors. No matter, all that means is that she really is that great. I knew this would happen as soon as I had listened to all her videos last year and is why she is my favorite singer. She loves to sing, it's not her fault she is that good. RR apparently understands that they have the musical golden goose and I for one want nothing but the best for her...she deserves it. Thumbs up Christi.

Christi, I knew you would enjoy it. What makes your reaction so, so special is you absolutely keyed on Angelina''s voice and the style she used in this performance. Although the settings were very interesting it didn't warrant spending time talking about them if it took time away from discussing and pointing out Angelina's marvelous rendition of this song. You spoke about the feeling you get when you listen to her sing. Christi, I get that feeling even before she sings the first note in any of her songs. I believe it's the purity of her soul which touches my heart and there are literally millions of us in the world who she affects the same way. If you haven't seen it yet please take a look at Angelina's version of "It's a Man's World", the old James Brown song. She does some really fun improvisation and belting and she is singing with an old style military band.

As always your words are exact and generous to Angelina, I agree! she deserves it! I think we have to see this performance as a whole, as the strength of the original is the talent of the genius MJ, where his charisma, performing talent, the magical GLOVES, dancer and keeping a nice beat. The lyrics were a detail in my opinion. Angelina, another genius, works on something brave, changes everything, choice of aesthetics, disconcerting simplicity, impeccable vocals, technical and beautiful stops. She with her arrangement made sense of the lyrics. It's not to everyone's liking, but it's a high-level job that I like a lot.

Christi, I just turned this on to hear your reaction and I found out I have to wait 117 minutes! I'll be back! HINT: When you remember the original by MJ you can remember the solid beat of the song and, of course, Michael and his moonwalk. But the lyrics? Angelina will tell you the story and she makes her version a completely different song.

Angelina seems to be settling into her own unique style. While she can wow a stadium full of people (see Something's Got a hold on me ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TCc4Yjri3pc.html) it's these intimate renditions which seem to be her forte (see all of her covers with a guitarist)

Thank you Christi for your always excellent breakdown. The 1st time I heard this, it instantly went to my #1 Angie song. As you said, this is a master class performance & I'm glad you warned singers who try to sing like Angelina, that they need to take it slow or they will blow out their vocal cords. Frankly, I don't think there will be too many covers of this version, it's too hard to replicate! A few have tried to cover her shortened, unique version of Bohemian Rhapsody, but no one has come close, yet.

Angelina's phrasing and vocal colors are just, wow. She places the words, vowels and letters into the melody/beat line, in such a delicious way. There is a lot of meat on the bones. It feels like she is breaking new ground stylistically.

First time hearing; immediately in my Top 5. Now I've listened to it about 50 times, and it's in my Top 3. And I'm not even a big fan of the original (1B+ YT views). I like MJs version, but no where near as much is AJs. For me, sometimes she over uses the vocal fry/rasp, e.g., "I'd Rather Go Blind". But in this performance, it was PERFECTION!!! And she uses it very subtly in many places, while mixing in some new jazz licks I've never heard from her. STUNNING!!! As always, I love your reactions Christi. Wishing you the very best.

@@mar2smooth54 Certainly that performance shows what a Fantastic dancer Michael was. Just amazing! But the vocal is a totally different vibe from Angelina's. Michael's is very upbeat and he dances to that upbeat performance remarkably, and sings very good also. Angelina's is slowed down and very jazzy, with only a piano accompaniment. It all comes down to personal preference, and I like Angelina's voice more than Michael's. Obviously, I'm in the minority there, but I'm OK with that.

I LOVE how the accompanist (Rob Christie? Dylan Meek? Angelina? Someone else?) played the piano line throughout in the style of Van Morrison’s “Moondance”. It fits perfectly with Angelina’s astoundingly jazzy treatment of “Billie Jean”!

To answer your question: Even my least favorite songs are simply a matter of taste. In themselves, most are great songs and so, She can arrange and sing any song. No song is safe from AJ's jazzy gaze.

Hi. Love your reactions, very thoughtful and educational. Noticed a widening at the front of your throat and hope you will (or have) had a doctor look at it. My son had an enlargement there and had to have his thyroid removed (Graves disease and most extreme remedy due to advanced stage). Probably just muscle build up from singing? Odds are there is not a problem but thyroid problems have long term detrimental effects and should not be ignored. Take care.

Love how Angie took this iconic early 80's song from MJ & made it into her Jazzy pop/Bluesy style. I bet if MJ was alive & heard it, he might of done what Queen did when they heard her do "BR" & even gave her the rights to her version of it. IMO, the simplicity and slower pace of the musical arrangement is a brilliant decision. The musical accompaniment, being just a piano, allows the listener to focus on Angelina’s incredible vocals. I think the pace of the color changes in the video composition perfectly complimented the musical performance. There was a conscious artful balance between them. As always, Angelina never fails to surprise and impress us with her renditions of the covers she sings. This cover demonstrates how Angelina’s creative brilliance is unmatched and unequaled. She has created her own genre and there is no one else in her lane.

What a great analysis....so many commentators discuss Angelina's alchemy of turning lead into musical gold but no one can equal her unique talent...All we can do is try to describe this phenomenon that is Angelina......thoroughly enjoyable... thank you for your wonderful presentation from this remarkable talent.

She wrote "Million Miles", in memory of her late Japanese grandfather. Her grandmother, (a famous Iranian painter and poet) and Angelina sewed her costume for Bohemian Rhapsody, based in her grandmother's art work. She does her own arrangements, plays 4 or 5 musical instruments, speaks 4 languages (English not being her first), paints, does charity work, and she's only 15. Sort if makes one feel a bit inadequate, doesn't it? Wonder if this beautiful, talented genius ever bothers to sleep? God always has good days, but He was certainly on His game, the day He made AJ. What a gift He gave us.

Your reaction to this was so great the first time I saw it I had to come back and watch it again. I loved your comment about hearing Angelina's voice up close and personal. When I listen to her, it makes me think of the great magicians who do close-up magic tricks. You're right there, you see it, but wonder, "How the hell did he do that?" It's the same with Angelina. You're right there, you hear it, and wonder the same thing. Please do some more reactions to Angelina and her newer releases. In the meantime, I'll be back to watch this one 2, 3, 4, 5..... or more times!

Thank you for doing Angelina,, there's nothing better than her Originals,, but as far as covers 9yr old Angelina (I put a spell on you) was mindblowing but 15yr old Angelina and the way she picked apart one of the most iconic POP songs into ART,, "👑" this is Angelina Jordan (AStar) PLAYGROUND NOW and them are her "wishes",,lol,, 👣🌬🌎
