I knew you'd be blown away by that performance. It was fun to watch. Let's be clear about one thing though, that was not just great *for an 11-year-old*, that was a legendary performance, period! I know she just keeps getting better, but I honestly can't imagine this song being sung any better.

She was actually 11 at the time of the recording. I resisted watching this because of her performance on NGT 2014. I needn't have worried she was born with a character that wouldn't allow mediocrity and grandma is right there to make sure that won't happen. So another amazing version that underlines her talent and why at 7, 11, 14 years old she continues to demonstrate an uncompromising talent that will not let her do anything less than her best. Great reaction TSR!! I love watching you watch great singers. Again, I would do some pretty nefarious things to be able to sing like you do. I really don't think that she has to work that hard at her craft. This song was so easy for her. Probably another 1 taker and I think that she was referring to the lyrics as she went along. You can tell that she gets a real kick at changing her voice on many songs.
For the record, this was multiple takes (the audio, I mean, not the video). What we are watching is one of the takes that were used to build the final recording. What we are hearing, though, is the final recording, straight from the CD. The original video that the visuals here were taken from has the ambient sound from the recording booth. You can hear the sound of the orchestra (technically, military band) bleeding in from the other room. (So, apparently the vocals and the instrumentals were recorded at the same time. According to the CD liner notes, that would have been in November 2017.) Anyway, by playing the original in-the-booth audio and the audio from this mashup video simultaneously, you can tell that about half of the take we are watching her sing was used in the final product, and about half wasn't. (To be more specific, almost everything after the CD cover image slides in and covers her face - which was done to cover up a mistake that she made - was used, except the very last line of the song which was from a different take. Whether any of the first half of this take was used is debatable. It's hard to tell - mostly because it's so hard to get the two audios in sync at the beginning, since her vocals are different and the sound of the music in the booth is so low - but I think maybe a couple of lines here and there might have been used.) Based on how much of this take was used, I would guess they probably only needed 2 or 3 full takes to get everything they needed. (Much like "Back to Black", which seems to have only required 2 takes sung live with the musicians - except in that case apparently about 95% of the vocals in the final product were from a single take.)

The older lady you saw after Angelina finished is her grandma, Mery. Grandma Mery was a child prodigy herself. Mery is a well renowned painter and poet and she has had a major influences on Angela’s love of jazz and blues. Grandma Mery is also the one that put together and videoed many of Angelina’s earlier performances. It was Grandma Mery that videoed Angelina’s six year old studio performance of Tom Jones’ song, “I Who Have Nothing”.

Comparing from the first acapella version in the age of 8: there it was a pure, serious rendition, a life experience about, how people can feel, what they are confronted with, the emotion about it. Done wih the tools of a little girl. Just unreal. And it showed her love for Billie Holiday. Here now, she has develoved, sho got more versatile, her tools already the ones, of a young woman (Maybe, because she grew so fast ann was really tall already) The rendition was breathtaking too, but now she is playing around with her voice a bit, it sounds effortless, and you still can feel her adoration for Billie. (And she loves her Grandma)
