I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on RU-vid, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she con convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. Sir, she arranged the original creation of Mr. Screaming Jay Hawkins (the guy on the candle) into a more modern version (his is 1956) without his theatrics. I am always impressed by her. When she looked to the ceiling in the studio, so I was told, she asked the spirit of Mr.Hawkins for permission. And did she get it !!! Never again did she sing this song, that wild and powerful. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at age 6, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Yeah..Angelina made history here (not the first time nor the last)! It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). God gave her a tiny bit longer neck and larynx, so today she is a contralto. God gave her the mind of someone at least 20 to 30 years older (extremely intelligent, Confirmed!!!). She is a Empath. When she saw the shoeless girl for the first time on the street in Persia, she thought/imagined herself into this girl, to understand something a normal 6 yo kid of good upbringing CAN´T understand (she wrote it in her book about this shoeless girl).
