As far as I know (which doesn't mean anything ;-)) Bohemian Rhapsody was recorded in October 2019 and in the interview she also talked about her grandfather and how nice it would be if he could hug her again. But she probably had a close relationship with both of them.

I don't think this was a tribute to the passing of her grandparent. It is thought to be dedicated to the love and support that her family gave her from childhood, to protect her as she grew up, especially from the evils of the industry. Her mother and grandmother have been her shield from the beginning. Her original song, A Million Miles, was dedicated to the passing of her grandfather and also to all of us who have lost a loved one. A very emotional song. Just a correction here dear. This was not written about the passing of a Grandmother. You are thinking of 'Million Miles' which she wrote about her grandfather whom she lost about a year after this. I believe she wrote it about her family. Thus the Chorus 'you are my fire ... the woman looking over me' which, I believe refers to her mother and perhaps her grandmother. The chorus 'Surround me by Angels', I believe refers to her fans. All of those who have been surrounding and protecting her. Love the reaction dear. From what I have read, Angelina wrote the line "forgive me for all that I am" demonstrating her awareness how her fame has placed a huge burden on her family. It is so personal and wise. Even for such a young girl to express the awearness of needing a protectiv shield in the world from the family and her surroundings. Not the least in the world of the music industry, that she had been approaching more and more closely. I assume she was growing her awearness of this, as her family had been forsed to consider time and time again, contackts from record labels and companies. It's a great interview. Starts off in a Scandinavian language and they switch to English. He discovers that Angelina finds singing and writing easier than speaking. He asks her who does she become when she sings and she replies: "When I sing I go to another world. In the world, it’s like, endless. This is a beautifully touching song. Like her original song, “What iIs Life” it shows what a thoughtful, loving, humble person she is. Her gift is endless love and compassion. Singing, special arrangements of covers, songs that were written specifically for her and on own originals, is how that love flows from her to the world. We, her Angels (as she calls her fans) have our hearts filled and our souls nourished, when we listen to her. We are not stalkers. We are, however under her spell. She and her family have generously shared so much of her almost 18 years, that we feel like she is family, As we are with our own children and Grandchildren, we are very proud of her and maybe at times over protective of her. It’s is out of love. You will find gat many fans, talk about she has changed their lives for the better, myself included. It wasn’t written for her grandmother necessarily. She’s still alive. The general consensus is this song was written as a loving tribute to her mother and the rest of her family, whom she, at the age of 12, realizes the sacrifices they have made in their life to support her dream and keep her safe from the evils of the industry in the process. I think when she pleads “forgive me for all that I am” she’s acknowledging that her obsessive musical genius is the reason for those sacrifices, but she can’t help it. It’s who she is to her core and they understood and made those sacrifices. I’m sure her grandmother, being a prodigy herself, was infinitely aware of how that felt. Now, imagine having a 12 yo child with the level of self-reflection and genius necessary to come up with this song. I can’t help but think it would fill you to tears of appreciation and joy. It brought me to tears and I’m not even related to her. She never ceases to fascinate and amaze me.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RU-vid. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. This was a great reaction to one of my favorite Angelina Jordan songs! Thanks! Happy to say her grandma Mery Zamani is still living, though she's had some health issues the past 2 or 3 years. This song is a tribute, as far as many of us can tell, to her family in general and, IMO, specifically to her Mom Sara Astar. She was 11 or 12 when she wrote "Shield," and 12 when she performed it. Her paternal grandfather passed in, I think, the spring of 2018, at which time she did a very emotional tribute to him with Elvis' song "Always on My Mind" (please react!). Then, her maternal grandfather (Mery's husband) passed in the fall of 2019. The following year, 2020, Angelina signed with Republic Records in August at age 14. Shortly after signing, she released "Million Miles" in honor of her maternal grandfather, and that was her first official Republic release, followed by "7th Heaven" in the spring of 2021.
