I remember not being a huge fan of Painting With when it dropped, but this tour was phenomenal. Caught Alvin Row in Jersey and I was amazed at how well they adapted it slightly to fit in better with the newer songs.
Holy shit, this is some of Panda's best singing. The way his vibrato is countering the frequency of the organs rotation towards the end of Daily Routine is awesome.
If anyone other than Panda Bear deserves it, it’s Jeremy. He’s so dope. Saw him play with Avey live when performing cows on hourglass pond. It was mind blowing. One of my favorite drummers I’ve heard live.
Retro Naut no, he's more of a panda bear replacement. noah can't play the percussion like he normally does on this tour so they got their friend jeremy hyman to do it. he's really good. deakin does guitar/synth/vocals when he performs live with them.
I got a bad impression of their live shows simply because I saw snippets of them on RU-vid and they sounded almost nothing like the album versions of their songs, especially the vocals. However, ACTUALLY seeing them live is a nearly religious experience. The only other live concert I've seen that was better than AnCo live was King Crimson.
Yeah me too. There's a RU-vid video somewhere where a girl in the front row requests "Chocolate Girl" and Avey has to very awkwardly and apologetically say "That's a really old song..." But apparently the age of songs alone isn't enough to stop them from playing it so.....
Yeah he probably meant that it's been so long since they played it so they wouldn't remember how to do it right. Also, I'm sure he thought people would only request stuff from Feels to MPP since those are the most popular.
I dont think its something about not remembering how to play it right, It's mostly about the gear they are performing with, the samples they are touring with, and the album they are promoting. I bet they didnt have the synths, presets, samples, etc. Most tours are planned with all the songs they are able to play for that whole tour, the track list they have for a whole tour is huge, they choose which ones to play for every date. Bands like NIN have almost their whole catalog available and they can choose to make changes on the fly, but they have all the technology, gear and support available to do so.
@@jowdaysimgen4450 they've said before they don't have some of those early samples, like specifically I remember the question was about feels and they said if they had to re record the album it'd be impossible cause some of those sounds are just gone. When I saw bees live I was so excited because I didn't think I ever would, and they definitely changed it a lot, but it was still wonderful
@@biikoc3419I saw them last year and it was amazinggggg, saw defeat before it was released. I’m glad Avey is getting into playing bass cause I remember seeing an interview from years ago where he said he’s not interested in having bass guitar on the tracks, yet he’s really in the pocket and melodic with it
I agree, but I can understand. Literally live is the ONLY way to hear Floridada. It was an okay song to me, as a HUGE fan, until I heard it live. The entire album was made to be played live honestly. So much better, to the point where they should do it old school and release a live version of the album in full.
i was at that show. I can tell you people really, really enjoyed Alvin Row. Of course Florida brings more cheering because it's more of a happy, positive energy title. Alvin Row is way more dark and twisted. But I can tell you people were really into it. And for me it was the best song of the whole set. Never felt this much mixed and intense emotions. And the crowd was part of me feeling amazing. (I mean look 2 years later I still regularly watch this video to relive this beautiful moment).By comparison I went to several AC shows in the Netherlands and it was always shit because the crowd is so annoyingly blank. Paris and AC shows in France in general , I always have the best time, even when I go by myself.
I wouldn't call it hiding. The soundscape changes and fits the song better. He has dry vocals in some performances and it's not really as nice - not because is singing bad, but because it fits the music better.
I saw them play Alvin Row in 2013 at the SLC show. Tbqh it was never my most favorite track but did appreciate hearing dont get me wrong but the 14 other songs would always more than make up for any one track that wasnt played. Now I totally get it all the comments from ppl lamenting not hearing Alvin live. But now that they are playing Screens from Oddsac, a song they have never played live in before and didn't play it at my show when I saw them last year. So I know that feel now peoples.
