She is not only perfect singer, but very good actress. You forget that all this is going on stage, just belive her, and that's it.

Besides her wonderful singing I always enjoy Verdi‘s orchestral introduction to this, one of his greatest soprano arias. Hearing the intro always reminds of some of the epic film scores from Alfred Newman who consciously or unconsciously remembered his Verdi when writing his own scores. I see the resemblance between the two especially in this aria’s orchestral prelude & certainly I am not trying to denigrate Verdi in any way by comparing him to a ˋmere’ movie composer. One example of Newman‘s (perhaps?) unintentional homage to Verdi in this aria is some of the music from Newman‘s score for CAPTAIN FROM THE CASTILE.

YOU should have to learn that the great Tiana Lemnitz (which you mention as having a relative kind of timbre to Harteros) has often sung Verdi's Desdemona, Leonora in Trovatore, Elvira in Ernani, Aida (yes, Aida) AND Elisabetta in Don Carlos. It is also interesting to hear Maria Callas' comment "Callas' observation about voices" on RU-vid.

I was there too! It was amazing. The male singers were also incredible. What a night!

Excellent singing by Harteros. A pity about the stage direction and poor production.

Absolutely glorious performance; the voice is lush, beautiful and at the service of the music. I cannot imagine the aria being sung any more beautifully. From the lyric Wagner roles to the great Verdi heroines; she fills a desparate need. First off Munich Opera should mount a Meistersinger with Pape, Kaufmann and Harteros.A Sachs mein freund!

Sehr berührend, schon bevor sie den ersten Ton gesungen hat. An Callas erinnert höchstens das Make up. Bewundernswert, wie ihre flutende Stimme am Anfang mit dem zähen Tempo klarkommt. Schade nur, dass ihr der Schlusston etwas zu tief rutscht. So wünsche ich mir eine Elisabetta!

Nein, sie presst die tiefen Töne nicht "into the chest", vielleicht forciert sie manchmal etwas zu stark, das tun viele, die diese Partie singen (Ausnahme: Cotrubas und Caballé) Ich habe übrigens 16 verschiedene Sängerinnen in dieser Partie gehört. Vero, vero. A lovely singer, really an enchanting Mimi, but here simply in over her head. Elisabetta di Valois used to be sung by Tomowa-Sintow, Arroyo, Orlandi-Malaspina - i.e. Italian dramatic voices. You can see and hear how much (too much) she has to force to make the sound necessary to fill out these phrases. Her "fans" who cheer this performances to the echo, are not her friends. Her true friends would tell her the truth: she is a superb and gifted singer, but not in this repertory.

Absolut beglückend. Oper bewegt oder erschüttert durch große und inspirierte Sänger/Musiker in einer authentisch, gerne auch modern, erzählten Geschichte. Macht endlich Schluß mit dem pseudointellektuellen Regietheater-Geschwurbsel, das krampfhaft gegen Musik und Libretto gestellt wird. Um in meinen Kindern das Opernfeuer zu entzünden, gehe ich in den Don Carlo und nicht in den unsäglichen Lohengrin.

Anja singt das objektiv sehr schön, voice is lush and beautiful, stimmt, aber das Ganze läßt mich total kalt. Sie ist weder eine Liebende noch eine Königin, sondern eine begabte Sängerin, die eine Rolle bewußt einstudiert hat. Selten langweilige Interpretation einer genialen Arie!

Sorry, Verdi is NOT for her. She makes a mess of his work.

She is sharp by 1/4 - 1/2 of a note throughout! And the tempo way too fast to achieve Verdi's intended dramatic effect.

She’s a lyric. Not even a spinto... This role is written for a dramatic soprano. But Freni and Caballé sang it? Yes they did, and they were better singers especially Caballé. Both had much bigger high notes. Harteros should sing Countess, Fiordiligi, Marguerite, Mimi and maybe Marschallin. Not Verdi or Wagner.

I hear at least six different voices, her intonation is not good, she presses the bottom notes into the chest (crudaaal) and yells the top ones (her B flats are open-throated screeches). Very "German." No, I can't do it better and the audience's response ist mir wurscht, although she deserves to be lauded for the sheer willpower to make it through an aria she is technically not equipped to sing.

See the newest critics from ROH telling you something else. And I think you are really bad educated.

I generally like Anja Harteros in most roles I heard her, but in this particular role/aria her voice is a little thin, and lacking in richness and support in the middle and lower registers. Also her phrasing is not great and the vocal colouring somewhat bland and monochrome. I don't think this is the best role for her.
