Announcers Calling Plays Before They Happen 

Imagine you hit your first career home run, and the most memorable thing about it was the announcer spoke it into existence

That baseball announcer kept digging himself in a bigger hole and he some how guessed everything 😂😂

Baseball announcer went from “back to you bob” to “IVE SEEN THE LIGHT”

The even more impressive thing about the Mariners home run is that the prediction wasn't made *during* the game. It was made in the pregame show. And let's run down just what he called: 1. He knew the Blue Jays' starter would still be in come the fifth inning. 2. He knew what at-bat it would happen during. 3. He knew what the count would be. 4. He knew what pitch would be thrown on that count. 5. He knew which direction the shot would go. 6. He knew how high up the shot would go. (Rogers Centre is a strange field, strange enough that it threw off even Dave Niehaus, the [sadly late] Mariners announcer. In left centre, because the bullpens are directly below it, the first deck isn't there, so what is actually the second deck appears to be the first.) 7. He *didn't* know what row it would land in, and refused to take a guess. Since the ball hit off the front of the second deck, he got this right too!

The mariners one is absolutely insane

Whoever the guy was who guessed the exact count, pitch, and deck needs to play the lottery.

I remember turning off the TV after that call from the Mariners game. Wasn't dealing with that voodoo shit.

It's crazy to hear Tony Romo's thought process and how he basically reads Bill Bellichick's mind every play. Romo would make a terrific coach.

That second clip with the HR prediction is possibly one of the most unbelievable things I’ve seen. Like football sure, you can see how the defense and offense are lined up and if you know the game well enough sure it could happen. To name so many details of it is spooky

The gulf between some of these... "I'm gonna predict the exact type of pitch on the count and at-bat a guy hits his first career major league home run." and "I think the Colts are gonna try and find their best receiver on this important play!"

Could you do announcers being dead wrong about plays

I lived in Seattle at the time and listened to that Mariners game that day. That was just incredible. And no that was not Dave Niehaus freaking out, that is his normal home run tone.

"I don't believe it! I believe you, Mike! Unbelievable!" - Dave Niehaus

The NFL play-by-play are far more educated guesses than the other sports, especially the ones by Tony Romo. He has brought announcing to a different level as a result of his incredible knowledge and prep-time.

The second clip got it right on the money 😳

The fact that so many veteran NFL players are commentators but seem not call plays beforehand just goes to show how in-touch and smart Romo was as a QB. He's entertaining, he's smart and he knows how to carry a conversation all while reading plays like he has the book on his desk.

The Tony Romo calls are impressive for a different reason because it’s actually based off of him understanding the game so well. For plays, situation, coaching, what weapons the teams have available, etc. It all factors into what plays will be called next.

Man if I’m a NFL coach, I am hiring Tony Romo as my defensive coordinator and just know every single play that offense is going to play.

Nobody talks about the Collinsworth prediction at 7:27, but it's legit underrated. He didn't just call the sack, he also said it would "end this game." It was 3rd down, and the Chargers still had a timeout left. So anything other than a fumble and recovery would have given SD another shot, at least.

At 6:38, I love how pumped he was about his co-anchor’s prediction. Gotta love the pure unbridled joy over someone else’s success.

When you watch enough baseball you can definitely sense a homerun when it’s about to happen in an AB. That second clip though where he called the exact count, pitch and location 3 pitches prior was insane.

You gotta remember, a lot of these announcers were once players themselves or just really hardcore fans of the sport and are able to read an offense by their formation. during certain moments in the game, a certain kind of play is ideal for every situation. For example, If the team has been running the ball a lot and the last play was a run for a first down, the offense might run a play action which is a play that looks like a fake run by is actually a pass play. Its not hard to read a play as its happening and a lot of these announcers are phenomenal at being able to break down a play, which is why they got the job in the first place of course...

The is an announcer is Brazil called Paulo Antunes, he works to ESPN and he predicts with almost 100% accuracy the plays in the NFL. He lived in Sarasota, FLA, for most of his life and he has a deep understanding of American sports, especially the NFL.

This is an AWESOME video and concept. Even better than successful play calls are what almost sometimes seems a guarantee that announcers are proven exactly wrong on the next play, like "He has not fumbled all year," then he fumbles.

1:14 -- I don't think that will ever happen again in baseball. That specific of a prediction makes it a once in a lifetime achievement. The Color guy was taking a total stab in the dark on that one, and it was the one time in over 1 Million tries that came up good.

I don't like watching football all that often, but Tony Romo in broadcast has been absolutely perfect. He does such a great job at educating the casual viewer and is so intelligent about the sport (obviously), but the way he conveys that live on camera is just brilliant

His first big league homerun and the only thing people will remember is the announcers prediction."
