The "Commentator's Curse" is completely self-fulfilling. For example, if someone came into the league and made their first 100 field goals, every time they went up to kick one, the commentators would be talking about how he has never missed. If he then goes and misses his 101st, that's the one that ends up in a video like this. They're not jinxing anyone. It's just they keep saying it and the kickers are bound to miss at some point.
I don’t blame tucker at all, I still blame that announcer for jinxing him. That entire game that announcer just keeps saying he’s never missed a extra point and I could tell he would miss at some point
What Buck actually said was "what would be a heartbreaking loss for the Vikings", so he left himself open for a miraculous last play, even if he probably didn't believe one was coming.
@@HDreamer Probably like a 99.98% win probability for the Saints at that point. Vikes only had time for one play, maybe two. Sure enough Diggs makes the catch, Williams whiffs the tackle, and Diggs walks into end zone. Whoops all around.
@@re1ive456 That's brutal. I remember turning on the TV and it just happened to be on the channel right as they were about to punt. Easily the craziest play I have seen live when I wasn't meaning to watch the game
How are things like that "speaking too soon " ?? They are simply explaining the past to the viewers, and especially in the superbowl many people watch who do not know much about football, so giving them historical perspective is exactly what an announcer is for. It is called doing your job.
@@bubbasgamingandpodcast6988 as a vikings fan i hate u didnt stop diggs... that catch ruined him and made him a drama queen ie a less talented antonio brown.
@@LJera8 it would be interesting to see all of the glitches made, showing not everything is perfect. You are probably so dumb tho you dont find anything except big hits interesting.
3:10 this is sort of mislead, right before this the announcer says "what would be" signaling that its not over quite yet, however love the content, keep it up
3:09 I’m pretty sure u cut out some of the clip and made it fit ur point. I think it said “And what would be a heartbreaking loss for the vikings...” but overall good video
Announcer: “And a kicker who’s never missed an extra point” *Kicker misses the game tieing kick* Announcer: “Are you kidding me” (such a blank reaction😂)
came to the comments to see if anyone else saw it as it was BLATANT as heck haha. Dude fell down & dragged the receiver with him to allow his safety to get the int.
The whole quote was "a heartbreaking loss for the Vikings, and a thrilling come-from-behind win for the Saints." There were 10 seconds on the clock, 3rd down & 10, so the assumption was that the Vikings wouldn't have enough time to get a game-winning score. Sure enough they went the distance in one play.
"That's gonna be six points!" and then a tackle, that's speaking too soon. Simply relaying a stat that a kicker hasn't missed, that's not "speaking too soon."
Fun Fact: in '98 Atlanta beat Steve Young & the 49ers by 2 points in the Divisional Round, only after Garrison Hearst broke his leg and Young inexplicably threw three red zone INTs. Then they beat the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game after Gary Anderson's missed FG and suddenly found themselves in the Super Bowl, where they were predictably crushed by John Elway & the Broncos.
A friend of mine majored in broadcasting and his professor told him and his class to never say anything like "never missed" or "announce things before they end" as that would jinx the game. It's pretty funny considering the professor was a broadcaster for a local radio station that covered the Yankees and if you know your sports curses, you understand why.
How to make your favorite team win 1. Become an announcer 2. Do your favorite team’s game 3. Make sure it comes to a field goal with your team leading 4. Say that the kicker is great and won’t miss the field goal
Right before Victor Cruz scored a 99 yard TD on 3rd and 10 against the Jets in 2011, the announcers were mentioning about how the Giants would probably go for a couple of yards just so their punter wasn't punting from the back of the end zone.
In the lions game this weekend against WFT, after an Alex smith led comeback, Aquib Talib commented on how he was lucky to commentate on an overtime for his first one in the booth. Matt Stafford & Matt prater had different plans. Could be a good one for the next series
They actually missed a really good one for the Cowboys: Collingsworth talking about how it be something if Romo, with help from Witten, could finally figure out the Washington blitz on the final drive...at which point another blitz flusters him into throwing the interception leading to the TD which clinched the game, and with it the division, for the Redskins.
there was Saints vs Falcons game, where the announcer most of the game talked about how RB Micheal turner hadn't fumbled all year. They brought it up multiple times during the broadcast and then... yep he fumbled on the 1 yard line, and the play was the turning point of the game
