ANNOYING foreigners in Japan stories 

I agree, but never forget that every culture have a lot of easy to grasp customs but also a lot of in between the line ones, many times even if the foreigner try is best to fit, he might upset someone for doing something that is not right in that culture or just plain out annoying and not even realize it, that being said, both sides should do a bare minimum of understanding each other, foreigner try his best to fit in, and native be a bit more forgiving when he does something wrong, even if for japanese it might be dificult also telling people that what they did is not good in that culture will probably be more helpfull and might even get a thanks for telling me in response.

I did that at a Daiso and skipped like 30 people, felt like such as a-hole, but it was already done 🤦🏼‍♂

Yeah, I think it's a social distancing thing from when covid was more of an issue. People still stand a bit apart while waiting at the konbini.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that "Americans will never understand." It really depends on the person (and their level of maturity).

Really depends on situations. Just different in culture, I think. Japanese people will gladly step over you if you are black out drunk in front of bars. American strangers will actually check out on you and stay with you to make sure you have a cab home. Also Japanese hardly ever comments on strangers looks, no hugs or physical touch, which is not necessarily bad, but not great neither.

Yeah, most of the people who cut in line in Japan are Asians especially the Chinese. I once saw a video of a Chinese woman cutting in line, and when a Japanese man warned her about it, she cursed him and eventually hit him repeatedly. The pandemic is over and a large number of mainlanders have started coming to Japan, and the Japanese are getting tired of their behavior. I'm guessing that when they say "foreigners" in this video, they mean mainly the Chinese and some arrogant Americans.

I have sat on the floor in the Shinkansen when I couldn't get a seat--you know that area between cars...but I have seen Japanese people doing it too.

Quite right. All the tourists that I have ever encountered (in Tokyo) breaking the rules in some way or the other , including breaking lines , tend to be Asians . For example , Chinese , Filipinos and Indians , are often involved in such activities .

You are correct there is this idea that Japan is a white western man playground it is not most foreign men with Japanese women are black African or middle eastern men this is true in Korea and China and Taiwan too

They sell a small selection of brands in most drugstores and convenience stores. My personal go to brand was Ag, worked pretty well for me (though that depends on how strong your natural body odor tends to be. I am on the less smelly side, but I made sure to apply it right after taking a shower and it worked pretty well for me). Also, deodorant sheets are a life saver. I would use it when I couldn't shower to freshen up. I tried some from Ag that were pretty big and would have a cooling effect but I would usually go with the regular size (basically like wet tissues) from Bioré. Japanese brands tend to have a fainter (?) scent to European products, at least it seemed that way to me, so using stuff you buy there should be safe. As for cologne, I guess just don't use too much? It's hard to say how much is too much, but again, I feel like Japanese products might give you a bit more room for error there. The perfume I bought in Japan tends too weaken much quicker than what I had brought from Europe. Hope that helps a bit 👍

You don’t understand. A little bit of cologne or perfume is a lot for Japanese. Most Japanese don’t wear perfume at all and if they do, it is the tiniest of amounts that you would not even smell it on them unless you were being intimate. Generally speaking, Japanese feel that foreigners have a strong natural smell and they don’t like it.

I understand how far a little of cologne can go far. However but judging a percentage of people baised on they are not from the same country as them is like saying every blade of grass is the same lenght when cut but its not the same lenght when you pull it out of the grown.@@soullessnight6539

I have a story of a European annoying me in Japan. He was plastered drunk and wouldn’t STFU on the train.

I think it's safe. Just fill the bottle at the sink when no one is watching. However, there are signs in train car bathrooms stating *that* water is not potable.

He'll see it for 10 seconds before removing them. Do you really need his advice for that?

You know, we hear a lot about standing to one side on the escalator, but there's a station where I sometimes go that has big signs asking people to NOT WALK on the escalators, claiming it is dangerous. There are posters showing elderly people w a cane and women holding their kids' hands--trying to get past people like that is dangerous and rude. But you still see Japanese people walking up in a hurry. All of which is to say, what you read is not 100% true. Maybe 90% true. I suspect these escalators are more narrow than most.

@@susanma4899 yeah, sometimes seconds matter when rushing for a train or plane, even so if we do need to rush, we should be careful of others & it's not worth our honor to cause grief for being late.

Afaik you don't use perfume/cologne to cover up body odor. Instead you use a deodorant, which is a lot harder to go overboard with

Deodorant is available in every god damn konbini. They are unscented though, so no ODOR. What's in a name, right?

There is American DO available at the konbinis like was said, some spray stuff some stick and not all of it is unscented.

Iam sure japanese wouldn’t mind a little DO, they appreciate scent just as the next man it’s the cologne thing that would get people

I was hated in the west as a nerd so I learned to be a Japanese before I even knew they were like this… I was never suited for where I was born. I was mercilessly bullied as a kid so I did this so I know why they do it…

Not sure exactly what you mean, but there are huge numbers of Asian tourists these days. At least half are from Asian countries.

I was watching some news in Japanese here on RU-vid just before and a bunch of wackos in the comments were saying that they want us to "**** off back home" and introduce a large tax when foreigners enter the country. I mean I know there's wackos in any country that just love to hang out in RU-vid comments sections but man... I don't think they realise how much money tourism brings into their country.

Mhm, I’m not sure which nationality is cutting in line. In Australia, cutting in line is a big no no and and seen as beyond rude. We line up for everything😂

If it is Chinese, the Japanese will blame other foreigners cause they look Japanese.

They vitch about the speed of speach yet they also talk super fast japanese and when you tell then to slow down or use simpler japanese words they get angry xD

@@RozStripe Why so hostile? These are just a random handful of women who have been pressed on the spot to come up with something that they find annoying. They also mentioned that Japanese do it too, but foreigners stand out more...to them. And yes, Japanese is the fastest spoken language in the world, so even when they think they're speaking slowly, they're not. But that wasn't the question...it was regarding their impressions of foreigners.

Japanese culture doesn’t like the passport bros because it’s the antithesis of their culture, that said Japanese culture is rooted heavily in promiscuity, a bit of an embarrassing black mark for them, so the passport bros exist for a reason. There are red lights districts in every town….

The Japanese aren't choked by "woke" ideologies. They are much more free to express themselves without fear of offending someone with "micro-aggressions".

They’re afraid of conflict. It breaks the harmony of peace, that said, such things should be reported to the police. People act like Japanese culture is wimps, but what no one talks about is how Many cultures are like them, everyone wants peace only the us and uk seek social chaos.

Yes, I have to agree. There is something seriously wrong and I mean SERIOUSLY wrong with a culture that will sit on a train and pretend they are not seeing a girl being molested. I’m just not talking about the men either… I’m talking about the Japanese women also. Why I would never date a Japanese person. I am shy and have been raised to never cause a scene but my morals would not allow me to just ignore it. And as a shy person, I would think… nothing violent is going to happen to me if I say something bc I’m on a crowded train. Oh, would they also ignore if I stood up and helped the girl and the man became violent too?
