Annuities which are actually the opposite of life insurance requires mostly knowing all the definitions, Annuitant, Annuitization, Accumulation, etc. Next up are provisions. While there are different provisions in life and different provisions in health, many of them will overlap. Provisions are things that kind of set the rules for how policies work and a good amount of them are simply definitions, and many do require memorization of numbers. Provisions also tends to be one of the largest chapters on all state exams, sometimes even up to 25% or more of the exam is just on provisions. For health, they really like you to know the difference between HMO and PPO, as well as a good understanding of disability insurance. Lastly, you want to be really decent in state law. Most state exams will have this chapter at around 20% or more of the exam. While every state is different and has different numbers, you need to know which numbers are important, and which things you should memorize from this chapter. There are exceptions to Annuitization before 59 1/2 and not getting the 10% penalty. First, sec 72(t) allows for SEPP substantially equal periodic payments. This avoids the 10% penalty. Also, a SPIA purchased directly with non-qualified money escapes the penalty as well.
