That truck bed trailer is a 1954 bed, which was the last year of the Advanced-Design Series trucks (1947-1954). The previous years had angled bed rails, but in '54 they changed to a single piece windshield, flat bed rails, a bull nosed grille, some slight interior changes, and round tail lights (instead of the square-ish ones).
Love that old body style on that front end of that '46 dodge . That old farmer has a lot of rusty gold sitting around those fields all right. Thanks for taking us along.
My grandfather had a truck that same year, and if I recall it got a step up on horsepower that year to 95. Thanks for saving all of these relics. They all come with memories and nostalgia for us all to enjoy.
My dad had many 39-46 Dodge trucks he loved them but his pride and joy was a 40' 1/2 ton had the original flathead 6 with a split manifold and duel glass packs best sound in the world
i am so envious of you being able to find such great old trucks in savable condition. around here that truck would have been reduced to a pile of rusty dust.
Guess I really got lucky finding a 45 dodge pickup in good enough condition to build a nice truck, in fact I just finished it,,,my winter project is finished and took my first ride 2 days ago.
Those 4 strakes pressed into the fenders are way cool, suggesting speed or something. You say that seat is destroyed, but now, with your upholstering skills, that seat is probably salvageable, like the one you built for the 31 rat-rod-to-hot-rod conversion you just did. Nice.
You should do a Cummins swap in one of your trucks as a video idea. Swap out one of your old fuel comsuming t444's to a common rail, that would be a cool project.
Love your videos Jonathan, seeing vehicles we never got to see here in UK. Great to join you on your trips too and then to see your work on them. Could only be better if one day you were to upload in HD, but never mind keep those videos coming Best Wishes
I had never seen a fiberglass dune buggy pickup before, and I grew up when there were tons of dune buggies running around near Cape Cod... There was still a few when I moved out west EXACTLY 40 years ago today. I was curious, so I spent 20 minutes looking at pictures of "dune buggy pickups" and I only spotted one exactly like that one you bought... but there was no info on what brand it was. Hundreds and hundreds of pictures of buggies. Seems like that was a particularly rare kit to buy... I am really surprised to see it with a VW steering wheel, the popular choice was to put a Grant steering wheel on them. That old bug wheel is worth quite a few dollars... I have a 1963 Large Sunroof (rag top) Bug.
I strongly suspect that buggy is a very rare beast indeed. I seem to recall something along those lines turning up in a Volkswagen magazine years ago and they said it was one of less than 100 built...
Jonathan: I was watching the one where you brought home the 2 1/2 tin and a one ton frame from Mt. Airy and I was thinking Jonathan has so many ‘46 Dodges that he should cherry them out and create a fleet of company trucks. While you may not be able to use them on the job they would be an interesting conversation piece plus I predict free advertising with the the local news and nationwide magazines.
Sure wish I could find a hood for my dad's truck I've got a one tone hood 1947-1953 Chevy truck need a 1/2 ton thanks for the vids Johnathan be safe tell everyone that Tig says hello
I believe that Chevy truck bed would be a 53 or 54 because it has the flat top bed rails instead of the angled tops the older ones had. Not sure of those dates. Might be a year or two earlier but that's how to tell.
Just looked it up. 54 is the "Flat top bed rail" year. Check this out for all the differences. www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/what-are-the-differences-in-1947-1953-chevy-pickups.682718/
I would be like a kid in a candy store with all that ol iron. I still need to find a full size school bus body for my 53 Brockway chassie. I had a few more modern potentials, but they want too much money for them. Still I would rather the older rounded style body if I could find one. I seen one bus in the background of this video.
You should look up JaySmart on you tube. His family has a scrapyard and they had a 60's chevy bus. I don't know if they still have it but there is a video of it.
i live in the uk and i would love to have one of the old pick ups just the bad bit you live so far away or i would be round to say hi and look at your cool stuff keep up the good vids
That biggie body fit on an unaltered 've floor pan, most of the others you had to cut a section out of the pan. I can't remember the brand name of the body right now, but if I think of it ill post it.
Can I ask what State you are in, looks like some roads in MN up north by Pine City or Rush City area, reminds me of home. Mis my home state nice to see
I see these types of vid and I always think about snakes, bees, raccoons, etc. How do you know what's inside and how do you get it out? Can you use a bug fogger? What works best to evict the resident?
I don't know JW, your American snakes must be a lot more friendly than our Aussie ones, I'd just throw my least favorite cat in the cab and wait a couple of hours!
I think God made every species of animal much more deadly and frightening in Australia....except for opossums. Australian opossums are cute compared to ours. I only know this because my daughter took some pictures of one when she was there.
