Hi if you're high pressure oil pump leaks at the outer gasket will it still run normal like nothing is wrong or will it run bad iv got major leak when warmed up truck rus and starts fine hope to hear back
That’s a good point. however, we would still see some oil coming up in the bottom of the empty oil filter housing if we had a healthy pump bore and Gerotor gears. The size of the bypass valve ports are not large enough to bypass the total volume of oil this very large pump is capable of producing and considering I cranked it long enough in total to take a year or two of life away from the starter, we would expect to see some activity in the bottom of the filter housing. Pulling the belt, dampener and pump cover/gears will verify our diag. I expect to see carnage. Diag of a failed lifter is based on no oil coming to filter base and cranking cadence. My money is on an exhaust lifter. Appreciate your thoughts, take care.
Heard of a few out there, seen 9 including three in the last month but in the grand picture probably not that common or at least as common as the other issues they will suffer.
The best thing is probably replace them during a reseal. I think all my failures can be attributed to high miles, maybe less than best maint. One comment pointed out the lifter rollers are the fastest moving bearing after the turbo shaft bushings. I think it’s just a fact of life.
With the 6.0 and lets go with a worst case scenario situation which is probably fairly often given the age of these trucks/engines, going with the full meal deal long block, new injectors, glow plugs and a turbo, probably new exhaust manifolds so no warping issues there, new EGR cooler, etc etc, throw a reman starter on, probably a new rad and all the other items of questionable status. What would a ball park total bill be with all parts and labour these days for comprehensive no corner cutting by the customer end result. If I drop from a heart attack after I read the number, you are NOT to blame ... a no liability quote 😉
