I had a problem similar to that on my 2013 520d. Main dealer quoted ridiculous price to fix . My local Indy simply disconnected the battery and reconnected it after 10 mins and everything was good again!!
I had the same problem, tried disconnecting the battery and didn’t solve the issue. The problem was a bad Gear Shift Module. $1800 fix from dealer…my local German machine did the fix for $500
@@Zeiten Yes. You're right. Just tested. An open door message appears. Probably the first time I did not pay such attention to it, because the media was configured in German.
I am currently having this issue, took it to the dealership and they said $11,000 to replace transmission. However i think its the gear selector seitch or some other electrical thing, if I beat the shifter then it works.
Believe it or not this problem is usually caused by 4 small rubber valves . One is about the size of your pinky and the other is about an inch and a half long. They are very easy to replace if your mechanic is not dishonest. I replaced them in my underground parking spot and they cost less than $40. You'll have to replace your tranny fluid as well which is a little harder since the filler hole is located under the tranny at the very bottom. It has to be done with a pump. A cheap battery operated one is best.
@Zeiten the selector switch is almost NEVER the problem. The problem is that bmw says the tranny fluid is lifetime and it's not. 60k is the best you can expect from it then it's problems if it's not changed.
Try loosening the screw by the trans and if that does work try disconnecting both battery terminals and put them together for about 10-15 seconds you should be good.
Overpriced junk nowadays. Not at all reliable in any case. I had headlamp issue and my car headlamp is single housing. Bmw dealer $5500 for headlamp and $852 for labor. My god bmw are crap
Gasket between tranny and valv3 body. Cheap and easy fix. Bought my 5 serious for 1k since it had this problem. Next day 70 total and a few hrs work and its been perfect
Not it, interlock e has failed so gear selector switch assembly had to be replaced only then gears could be engaged, don’t assume people are idiots🤦♂️
