Air Arc. Date Feb. 1975, place North Slop; Service City. I walked into the shop and the first time I ever saw an Air Arc it was throwing sparks nearly 30'... OMG .... The guy was cutting on track rails off a D8 or D9 Service City 18.2mi NW of Deadhorse Airport. ?? SE of Kuparuk because they were still working on the road. Great work...
What's up Aaron! You are a very busy man. I know you've been pipe fitting and helping family, thanks for posting this video.👍 I remember welding tag axles back in the 80s, all stick, no arch allowed according to DOT, but I guess you can run some pretty heavy wire in these newer machines. I agree with you on the full root pass on each side, it keeps everything nice and tight. Seems to me the tack weld method would allow more chance of movement as it cools rather than a full root pass that stays hot giving you the time to run the other pass right away. That truck is like DP, very needy. Lol Hey, the lens filter is a tough call. I've seen several channels try different filters so you see the welding action, but none of them seem to actually capture the view you get from the hood. It would be very cool to see the puddle and flow. I have seen some guys use a welding hood, but it just dims the flash. I think it has something to do with the way the cameras focus and react to light. I appreciate your efforts in trying to find new ways to view the work. I will keep searching for a filter that works, if I find one I'll let you know. Thanks again for the video, nice job!👍👍👍
Great tutorial Aaron. Your welds may not be Instagram champion welds but you’re also not taking 4 times as long to weld them and then only picking the best one to show us. Plus it’s always function over form in the real world. Plasma cutters are a great invention. Makes cutting steel an easy DIY process now.
Good job Aaron, wish we could real see the weld happening. Mike can’t wait to get you on something. We miss you on DP video’s, hope all is well and stay safe👍🇺🇸
We have a Miller at work. I think it's rated at5/8 or 3/4, but that dang thing went though 7/8 bucket edge like butter. If I was using a torch set, probably would have gone through nearly 1/2 tank of gas, and a dozen grinder discs.. Once you try one, you'll only use the torch for heatin' and bendin'... maybe a couple of broke off bolts here and there.
That looks like loads of fun when I used to do steel work we never had one of those all we had was old school oxy assembly or a carbon fiber wheel on a big saw LOL :-) :-)
you make dam straight freehand cuts mister - i'm impressed! and impressed with the 10k subscribers- small wonder- you are a master of your trade and humorous besides.
Good video Aaron. You should do an instructional video that gets to the technical side of welding. What what welding actually is, rod you should use , amperage, ac vs dc, patterns and machine internals. Get as geeky as you can.
Aaron, thanks for demonstrating the cutter. I have never watched one being used. Nice steady hand... great results. Now, I happen to to have an abundance of hot air... do you suppose I can figure out how to ignite it... If so... I could be in business!
MBTS did Mike hide your grinder after the last bit of shop excitement w the grinder . . Haha.. only joking. Enjoy what ya'll do and invite us to watch/hang out w ya'll. Stay buissie you dirty job clean money truckers.
Aaron, Tip #1: In the future, use a straight edge to make precision cuts super straight! Still pretty good job by hand! On the Mig welding, I would say, you need an additional lens to reduce the light, just a tab. Cutting Edge Engineering Australia does a great job of showing the welds, pushed into my list because of your channel. Thanks for your education, love it. Question, do you have slug on your welds afterwards that need clean-up?
Oh I agree on the big jobs boilermaking when I’m doing a lot of cutting I use a straight edge 🤙🏻 yeah I’ve tried 3 different lenses still working on it
Lens filter works GREAT👍👍#manbehindthescene man I learn something new everytime I watch one of your vids. I hope to get a welder and start putting your knowledge to work for my projects. You and #dirtperfect are a good team👍👍 great video and I can't wait until Lt.Dan is completed👊🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅👊
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 Mr perfect is about a month and a half or two months behind. I don't expect You're any less busy than him... and to be honest (any kind of boiler videos tweak my interest huge)! I just drove by the Monroe power plant yesterday and realized, I miss driving up to the old red and white stacks! I'm pretty sure you were a big part of getting rid of those!! PS sorry I was such a dick about lockout tagout! I was a fairly (and in my own opinion justifiably) a hated human being on that property!! It was my job to spit red tape out of my ass!! I'm thankful to gotten rid of the tape, all it left me was with hemorrhoids! And a guilt that I was responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars a week for bullshit delays!
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 it's nice of you to say that but it was I think $4,000 a minute to shut down the coal plant! Mostly for conveyor issues! There were 20 of us and we would swap that area to make sure everybody was safe! And it went way behind reasonable it was stupid... If you just let people that know what the fuck they're doing get shit done..it would be fixed before we'd get there!! Don't get me wrong I don't want anybody to get hurt, but the people that work on the machine are the experts!! I'm a douchebag with a badge that says you had better stop doing what you know how to do until somebody says you can do it safely... worthless I hated that job! But walking 27 miles up and down endless flights of stairs, I was a damn tight, hard hitting mother... now I'm a fat ass, beer belly, bald bastard but I love it! Wouldn't change the past if I could!
i had a friend buy a plasma cutter off amazon and he loved it so i got one for my shop. not something i use every day, but i am really impressed how well it works for its price point.
Wow I miss watching you guys. It was hard for me to find 20 minutes out of the day now I truly don't have time for 30 minutes.. when I say you guys I mean you dirt perfect and Captain and longer Wade
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931you three make great videos. Just my daddy raised a farmer. For me April till December is a good 140-hour weeks. But I do try to watch your videos when I'm waiting on parts.
😂😂😂 close real close but I got called back to work and we haven’t had time the past few weeks to work on it but I should be getting some time off real soon
Cracking job Aaron, showing DP up again, keeping him busy 🤣 Plasma cutter worked champion, how do you keep going in a straight line?? The lens worked well too 👍 I presume you are back at your other job, hence the time delay in getting the video sorted out, worth the wait to see your side of the project so far 👍😁
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 been there 12 hr. shifts. Record days without day off is 45. Hey Reddog yeah I know I’ve been slacking went back to boilermaking and been on 7-12’s the old ariats are holding up great been putting them to the test out here in the boiler world 🤙🏻
You got lots of practice lol I would clamped an angle iron on there as a guide. But you don't need it 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👊still bright as hell rig a welding lense to it somehow a brighter lense maybe. We used a 71 elite flux core good for dirty metals
I know that you made this long ago ( I watch D P too) But I have a suggestion. Next time you want to show off your welding please darken the lens to were we can see the puddle not just the sparkle. I saw were you did a vertical up, that's good. (of course) I've known many a (wanna-be) welder who only do the downs because it's easier. I'm retired now but I've done my share and it's good to see someone do it right.
Welding is great, don't know why you didn't put 45 degree angles at ends of pipe. 90 angle is not flow inspired, going to get red hot on ends when running hard.
I'm only 5 minutes into the video and already loving it for 1 you play way better music than DP. And all I see is you working does Mr DP do anything else but walk around lol 😂.
Pretty Pretty good without a straight edge for a guide. Think I just got pink eye from watching you weld. Thought you guys wanted to move the inlet for the exhaust to the inside of the frame rails away from the fuel tank ?
What Can One Say?Missed seeing your videos for a while! Hope you are doing well! No MBTS therefore no Lt Dan progress! Management must be missing labor! Viewers are for sure!
It is not slag it is dross . Anyway for a toy of a plasma cutter it does make a nice cut . Next time use a guide like 3/8x2 flat bar and don't free hand let the torch follow the guide . If you only saw the machines we have in my shop .
Aaron, just curious I'm assuming its not needed or called for but why didn't you double plate & weld the frame where you pieced in the addition. reinforce the frame weld?
Nice work I recommend a set of cutting tip wheels they help to leave the cut alot cleaner and you cut faster I use a set of oxy tip wheels also you can use the circle cutter off the oxy works like a dream. Just another useful hint is use a straight edge on long cuts as a guide to run the tip against, it makes life so much easier. I have had my 3-phase 415v plasma for 6 years now its brilliant it has the ability to cut up to 50mm 2inch in depth. I rarely have to use oxy anymore just no need 😀😀😀🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺😀😀😀😀 Be safe keep up the gteat work. The Australian power voltage differs from yours im sure you can figure what I am saying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also a good idea is use a moister filter along with the pressure regulator. MOISTER kills the cutting tips.😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 I kinda figured that! haha. What brands? They looked like they had decent clarity over cheapie lenses. Could be the operator too....
