Back in the 70's (1973-1976), I had a 1966 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a 425 cid 2bbl engine in it. Was pretty fast and in good shape, until somebody behind me could not get stopped after a small rain shower, that made the roads slick. There was a line of traffic stopped in the road, because of an accident up ahead. I was basically the last car in line, and the guy behind me could not stop fast enough, because of the slick road, and he hit my car at a pretty good rate of speed, which pushed my car, into the car of the person in front of me. When everything settled down, my car was basically an accordion. It was totaled, and I was very sad. It was my first car, and a lot of memories.
In the late 90's we had a 71 C10 short step side bed pickup. It was a very nice ,trophy winning truck, until it burned up under the hood, the dash, and part of the seat. It was a total loss but I got lucky and sold it to a guy with a pile of money, and not a brain in his head. I'm sure you'll have better luck with your truck. Keep us posted.
She's got a 710 Holly double pumper on her. Haven't seen one of those in a while. Aluminum Elderbrock rocker covers. Boy reminds me of a few I built back in the day. God bless
The Cutlass was definitely a project that needed quite a bit of work to be able to drive it every day. It will be a great hotrod, looked like it had Edlebrock valve covers and other after market parts on it. The C10 looks pretty original at first glance, well used, but mostly all there. I guess you will find out as you go along. The green and white is a good combination.👍
i'm a young 66 y/o Granny....you have a real car there, and i love the way it sounds!!! now, i'm seeing the 'new' project....for a Chevy...it's not bad...lol
Ohh. It actually is your truck and “Aaron’s truck” isn’t just code for, Don’t tell Jenna. Making it into a shortbed won’t be too bad if you know a decent welder. 😜 There’s lots of information online about where to cut the bed in front and behind the wheels if you go that route. You may even be able to get new bedsides from LMC Truck and avoid having to weld the exterior sheet metal. We know you already know how to chop a frame accurately.
I had a 71, 72, and a 73 Oldsmobile cutlasses it's amazing the difference in body styles in those 3 years. I do know that the door panels and seats out of a 1976 cutlass will bolt right in a 73' that's how I got crush red velvet interior in my 73.😁
I have a 71 C10 Stepside that I am adding QA1 suspension too. That suspension will make it ride and drive like a modern automobile. I have had good luck buying parts from LMC.
1st Gen Camaro’s have got stupid expensive. For that fact a lot of cars that I use to pay $500-1K are crazy expensive. I bought a 75 C30 with a 12’ flat bed, lift gate and big block from work. Zero rust and ran, needed A/C repairs, carb rebuild and exhaust manifold gaskets. I had to think about it when it was offered to me for $1500. After driving it home I quickly got an education on Square Body values. I won’t call vehicles toys anymore. When one follows me home I tell the wife it’s not a toy, it’s a necessity. We live in So Cal, you have to have transportation. As of now I have land, sea and air transportation covered and somehow not divorced.
Cut loose the Cutlass!!! Replacement is a long chassis pick up, I would keep the long bed on, more carry capacity for your tools!! Will be a good project to do, I just would not have a clue where to begin, I ain't no mechanic 🤦♂️ Good on DP to let you borrow his pick up and trailer too 👍🤙
Aaron nice live feed from DP’s shop, great to see your alive!! Also very nice of you to help out the Captain, great memories for you guys to look back on! Can’t miss those. Hope your having a great weekend👍🇺🇸
Love those C10s. I think the 67-72s may have been the best looking Chevy trucks ever. My dad had a 67 C10. My favorite was the 69/70. I thought the grill was the cleanest looking. Looking forward to the projects.
That old cutlass got a heavy cam - headers if i heard right - maybe some other hotrod stuff. I can't believe how rusty stuff is there. that old C-10 ain't bad - long bed.
My first vehicle was a 69 C 10, 250 6 cyl with a 3 on the tree. I bought it in 75 and it was a rust bucket. I'm in Maine, lots of road salt. Drove it for a few years until it wouldn't pass inspection.
I drove both of those when they were new! A friend of mine had a Cutlass SS.. my farmer neighbor had the Chevy pickup... his was a short bed. MBTS... it was great coming of age in the muscle car era. Half of our vocabulary was.car terms... Holley carbs, dual exhaust, racing cam, peel out, Tiger Paws, cubic inches, developed torque, 4 barrel, slant 6.... I mean some guys could say a whole paragraph with only a verb added to the auto terms! I think my senior year (‘71) was the high water mark for muscle cars.... but, I know they killed it in ‘73 when the government mandated those ugly danged safety bumpers! So buddy, get to wrenching so that I can remember my glory days!
Sweet old c10, I like long boxes as they corner so much better than the short box which can swap ends in a heart beat. I owned a few of those new and at the time they looked ah...plain to me.. me in my twenties at that time. Just a few years later kicked myself for not keeping at least one of them but dang, for seventeen hundred dollars I had a new one. My new ford I had blew up as I beat on it hard in the woods and so they gave me a 84 long box 4x4 and when I got the ford back, I bought the loaner from them for five hundred dollars. You know, unheard of prices today. I had it for about ten years or more and one of my brothers who like me a vet, was all banged up and needed something to keep him from going crazier than he normally was.... so I gave it to him. He done some stuff to it and so I was moving north to alaska again as I am a fish out of water lest I'm here. He got to drinking and it was a receipt for nothing good... he got stabbed and died so my sister in law asked me if I wanted it but that was in kansas where they lived. I told her to sell and I heard that it sold for like almost twenty thousand.... I thought to myself.... why didn't I buy a handful of those and put them in a barn to hold and resell later. Ain't that the way life goes.
Oh man I know the prices are crazy in today’s time first truck I ever drove was a 69 ever since then I told myself I would have one 25 years later I got one! 🤙🏻
Hi Aaron nice truck definitely leave it along bed if you'd like to make your friends drool over your new purchase and add an easy $3,000 to the value of that truck get yourself some rubbing compound and a buffer and rub out all that paint everything then polish it with wax that truck will look better than new I promise they call that patina big bucks
My dream car is a 57 Nomad🤗 Hopefully you made a couple of dollars on the flip. Got to keep things fresh, C10 is a classic too. Stay safe on the job, and keep them coming. 👍🇺🇸
Nice Truck in 1976 when I got my license used cars were a lot cheaper then they are now. My first car was a 1969 White Coupe Deville with Red leather interior, I also had a 1969 Camaro, 1966 T-Bird wish I had these cars now :) . You could get a used car that ran back then under $1,000 . Now I look at used cars around where I am and they want 3k to 5k with 200 thousand miles in them crazy times we live in. Good luck with the truck.
The kind I’d want to Aaron. When I turned 16 that was the truck I wanted but fuel mileage was what dad said would make more sense and it did. Nice find bud look forward to seeing it shiny.
That Olds is sweet! Sounded good! I've got a '68 C10 that I call "Blueduck". I was hoping to get it in the shop last summer, but maybe this summer... we'll see. Congrats on the '69! That thing's sweet! Looking forward to the project! Thanks for the video!
Great Aaron! Love the c10 ! :-) I have a -72 Suburban over here in Sweden, and I Really love those 68-72 Chevy Trucks! "Rides like a Cadillac" with that rear coil suspension! :-)
Man behind the scenes loved the Oldsmobile cutlass my godmother had a couple those two doors....I drove a couple of them a few times fun cars \........But the real score is that C 10 Chevy pick up........my first heavy duty truck is a 1968 three-quarter ton camper special 16 five split rims 305 V6 offset from motor automatic ran the ass off at eight ways to Sunday.....I miss that truck take care good luck putting up with (((((((((dirt perfect and captain claiming)))))))))every time I turn the you tube on dirt prefect !!!!!!!!!!!! I think I’m going to the circus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!keep them in line you’re the boss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and you can tell him I said it junkman do
I love the old trucks, that back when you could tell the difference between a chev and a Ford. Now a days they just copy each other. Looking forward to the videos coming on this one
Sweet; A 72 442 is 1 of my dream cars with the gold and white vinyl top. sound like it's got a supped up cam.or a bad miss hard to tell. Even sweeter On those years (67-72) of Pick-em-up the part are their every where
A friend of mine had one of those, with a 4 speed and a 455. It was a beauty, and a beast. One time he tried to do a burnout, and he broke all 5 wheel studs off! I had a 69 Firebird with a 350 which was plenty powerful, but not even close to the Olds.
Aaron your probably better off with this project then the OLDS ,those parts are hard to find . The Chevy truck you can get any part you need. Hope to see some video on that Chevy soon.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Being Gangster Aaron saying you stole it from Mr DP.. Officially we always say we borrowed it when Mr DP was not at home. The Cutlass looked good but the truck looks better...
Windowless, got a good laugh when a friend said "WOW, its got a 442 cid in it!" 🤣🤣🤣 LMAO He didn't know it ment 4-barrel (carb.), 4-on the floor, [2] dual exhaust.
Yup the floor pan was pretty much gone, but I pieced one together and used tar to seal it all up. The bed was shot so torched all the bolts and dropped it.
Great truck i lot 5 of them trucks they are good ol trucks the long bed ride alot better then the short beds classic industry, brothers trucks, goodmark, an a few other's will help u greatly. Olds was gopd but u dang sure traded up on projects.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and video. That car was a bit rough but I’m sure it would have been a sweet ride when you were done. The pickup is probably more fitting for you and it is actually something you wanted so that’s great. I’m sure you will do a great job with it. Any ideas on relocating the gas tank, I remember back in the day all the news reports of people rolling onto the driver’s side and burning with the fillers like that and the tank i believe in the cab. Stay safe, wishing you and your family the Best.
Nice round fender, on an episode of Gears ,Stacey David showed how and where to cut one of these to make it into a short bed. You might want to check it out.
Hey thereMBTS. I always wanted a 71 Pantera, with the 427 I am also a Mopar Fan.. bow ties for me were okay did like the 396 motor and loved the 63-65 galaxy two door with 351 Cleveland.
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 own a 68 GTS 340 /4speed Doge Dart was the second owner it was perfect got it at 17 years old in 76’ had 99,000 on it got it for 750.00- sold it two years later For 450.00 kick myself for ever selling it! Just did not really know what I had! Even had Factory A/C but Drum front brakes hard to get it to Whoa up! In dough nuts would get on three wheels, posie rear it would pick up the inside rear off the ground. Replaced it with a 68 XR7 cougar. My new wife hated it ??? After blowing the second motor from racing it made me sell it! Had to get a wife / kids car! I got a old Pick up! Such is life at 23.
Just request a free catalog for c10 and they'll send it to a free. That's probably the most recognized company for aftermarket parts and much more. I had a 87 Silverado 4x4 years ago and regret getting rid of it. I'm a fan of the 87's and back. I love my chevys but those years I'd take a dodge or ford. They just had character back then and looked MEAN👊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👊
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 thank you for the videos, I love watching you pick on DP. I can begin to imagine all the fun times you guys have behind the scenes.
Lkq or year one you can buy every piece of sheet metal on that that you need ,year one has old gm dies so there stuff fits .cool truck man ! Done yet ! Lol
Damn....I completely forgot about those protectors that went around the door key hole and the flip down rear license plate...😀... that takes me back......
My buddy bought a Cutlass new just like that when we were in high school. It was sweet by the time he was done with it. Love the newest project though. If I had a mechanical bone in my body I would love to have something about that year. Good luck with it
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 I had a 72 short bed, factory 454, set up like that, wish I still had it. Show us what you can, and put it on Mike DP any chance you get, lol. Thanks Aaron
Hey buddy how you been? I love those old Oldsmobile cutlass but I’m going to have to agree the truck is the way to go! Good luck I’ll see you in Kentucky in September 👍🏻
I’ve owned 2 of those in my lifetime Aaron a 69 rust bucket lol and a 72 unfortunately neither of which I was able to get on the road however the only truck I wish I could get back and had never sold was my 86 K10 absolutely loved that truck . Love Your videos btw 🤟🏻
