There was an overwhelming amount of feedback on my last accounting and finance university tips video, so I thought I would make a follow up finance university video. In this one, I read out a few accounting university questions that I received and give them the best answers I can.
Accountancy at university can be daunting, something I did not cover in the video is how many people were scared of doing accountancy or the amount of people that had started and couldn't stand it. This prompts the question should I do accounting? Well, I believe that if you put your mind to something and really dedicate yourself to it, you can succeed. When I studied at Dundee University, I had a really hard time mentally coping with the workload, and somehow I have managed to be okay at the end of it so I'm sure you will be too.
Accounting and finance at university or accountancy and finance university makes you immediately think that you are going to need a lot of mathematical skill. It is only somewhat true. Finance at university involves a lot of report writing. The most complex maths I did was statistics, and I did not go to many lectures (whoops). Should I do finance at university? Well if your only question is if you would be able to manage the maths side of things, I think you'll be fine.
When I studied accounting higher education, it became quite apparent that the job market is quite scarce, but if you put in the work you can succeed, I believe in you. accounting at university can relay in to an accounting job.
If you are looking more at doing finance higher education, then I believe the job market is less scarce, though graduate jobs are always difficult to find.
Finance school can be hard, and since leaving my time being an accounting student, I am no longer trying to become an accountant. In some ways, it may have benefited me to become a finance student, but having accounting and finance on the CV or Resume, broadened the horizons for both.
